So when is the beta then? I didn't catch the part when they give an ETA.

Early 2010. Pushed back as normal lol.

Whenever an ETA comes out for a PC game, push it back 2-3 months and you're roughly there.

Except the game play is and has always revolved around large scale, open ended battles. Its what made Battlefield special.

But this is Bad Company 2, the sequel to Bad Company 1 that didn't revolve around 64 player servers and huge landscapes.

          BF3 will come.

IMO were lucky to have 32 players and im sure this is going to be a game that will have very high specs. Until the Destruction engine has been refined and tuned many many times, BF games using the frostbite engine will simply not be able to support huge games, one of the many reasons why we WONT see it in BF3.

In 11 Days of DirectX 11, (Kevin Strange, AMD Developer Relations Account Manager) hints about the video card & operating system that they see for the future of DirectX 11.
"Windows 7 is an excellent OS for gamers (but please use the 64-bit version!)
"Give me 2-3x the computer power and 2 GB video memory (for frame buffers & textures)"

That is this a hint of requirements to come...

As it has been said in this thread, there will be many players on one map mixing:
            DirectX 9c,10 & 11
            Windows XP, Vista & 7
            32 Bit & 64 Bit
            Video Cards with 256MB, 512MB, 896MB, 1GB, 1792MB & 2GB (and so on)
            Cable, DSL & Fiber...

            That is a BIG mix...

Leaves a lot to think what the future requirements could be...

current dx 11 cards (only ati's 3 cards) have 1gb or more of video ram.

in that article, they were talking about the future for them as a developer and imaging when each card would have a minimum of 2gbs of dedicated video memory

You only need a lot of video card memory when you run on a huge resolution, 2560x1600, other then that 512mb is sufficient.

512mb isn't really enough for new, texture heavy games. 1GB I would is the industry standard (In PC gaming that is) for new games.

                    512mb is enough if you're still running on a 17" CRT @ 1024x768.

Agreed, but that's pretty dated technology and probably not what the vast majority of people playing BC2 will be using.

What's really holding the industry up is LCD/next tech - screen lag on this generation screens is pretty unacceptable to the old-school.

What? One 24" claims 0. pffftt

DX 9 compatibility - Is that the same thing as in Call of Duty 2 where you could go into video settings and change the shaders back to older versions to get it to run on weak systems? Can we drop the shaders down a notch to dx 9 in BC to get extra frame rates but lose the eye candy?

Exactly BFBC2 is not BF3, people have to remember that.
