And there's probably a fair number of people here who wouldn't mind slapping you around a little bit for your constant going on-and-on about the USMC, how you won't play on the OpFor team, and wanting more and more little unnecessary realism items in COD that would bog the game down. It's getting annoying. Perhaps the upcoming ArmA2 or OPF2 are more for you.

Brothers in Arms is quite a different type of game. The AI had to be better, because it was more squad based. In COD, you are the central character, with the squad there to provide a bit of support. BiA didn't do anywhere near as well as the COD's have, and many people hated the control system.

Price is a character that many were attached to, and hoped that he didn't die at the end. I've read tons of posts about people being shocked and saddened when the nuke killed Jackson. Gaz was another that people wrote about a lot. I'm never one to get attached to characters in games, but other folks do, and a lot of them liked the ones in COD4.

Both critics and players hailed COD4 for its semi-believable/plausible and detailed storyline. Was COD4 perfect? No, but most people liked it. You're in the minority. So how about you relax a bit instead of making 3 separate posts (which you've now edited, thankfully) bashing others like Numptie on their valid opinions. You're the odd one out on this one.

I swear I remember seeing that same scene in an old COD4 concept art or wallpaper somewhere.

I wonder if they will do a horrible patch on this one too, so that the server browser doesn't show servers in your own backyard but thinks you need to see servers 4000 miles away around the world. Truly the server browser in COD4 was crap and hopefully they have worked on that for cod4:mw2

They may have just decided for now to go with a simple "Modern Warfare 2" to grab people's attention.

I wouldn't read too much into it...yet. If they keep doing it and we never see COD show up, then they might be going in the other direction.

Here is the official press release from Activision:

                  Modern Warfare(R) 2 Coming November 10, 2009
-- --Countdown Begins for the Most-Anticipated Game of the Year

SANTA MONICA, Calif., March 26, 2009 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- Prepare for the ultimate invasion! The most anticipated game of the year and the sequel to the best-selling first-person action game of all time*, Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare 2 will strike worldwide on November 10, 2009. Activision Publishing, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) will release the newest installment in the groundbreaking and record-setting follow-up to the 2007 blockbuster, Call of Duty(R) 4: Modern Warfare(TM), that has sold more than 12 million copies worldwide, to date.

"Everyone on the team is laser focused on making the most gripping experience we've ever created," said Infinity Ward's CEO, Vince Zampella. "No detail is too small and every finishing touch imaginable is underway to make Modern Warfare 2 our best ever. We can't wait for our fans around the world to play starting November 10th."

As you can see, "Call of Duty 4" is mentioned, but as far as this upcoming game, the references are all "Modern Warfare 2", with no "Call of Duty" attached.

So, this may indeed mean that this is the start of branching off of the franchises. "Call of Duty" may only be attached to the WWII brand from now on, or, they may even drop that one as well and have a "World at War" brand, and a "Modern Warfare" brand. Interesting.

honestly its not a bad way to go.....this way the series of COD can have only developer.......a lot of ppl were b****ing because activision had 2 developers for COD so i guess some ppl will get thier wish......although i would be very surprised since COD is IW's baby.....now that i think about tho, they could just say COD: modern warfare 2 seeing as how COD:ww is not technically cod 5...just a thought tho

I'm not sure on this, but I think Activision may either totally own, or have acquired the rights to COD (possibly in the early days of the franchise). This would give them a lot of creative control.

It's possible that as IW grew, they became more confident in what they could produce, and when they saw the massive popularity of COD4, they decided to branch out with a separate IP that they had more ownership of...this could allow IW more creative control, and possibly give them a larger share of the profits. Smart move, if that's the case. I think the "COD" brand is more associated with WWII, and IW has said that they want to move away from that anyway. They can always build up the MW brand as they did with COD.

Again, just speculation on my part.

Yeah, another flashback mission to get a further understanding of the plot.

                              That's quite possible. Good thinking.

And hopefully Price will be hobbling around on a cane or something, barking out orders behind the scenes like a grizzled vet.

Yea. That might have been a lead into Modern Warfare 2. Good thinking.
