Re: Battlefield Online Announced in South Korea
If that were the case they would support mods right?
It really gets me that Dice refuses to respect and support mods which have done more for Battlefield than can be expressed. Yet they hand over the source to some random team in Korea to make a free to play game.
If Dice really wanted to just milk BF2 they would promote the mods already OUT for it as you have a lot of real quality work that would sell more copies of BF2 just on promoting the free mods!!!
Imagin a full push by them to support the mods. Walking through a store and you see the BF2 box "Now shipping with top BF2 mods!" and you turn it over and see littlescreens with FH2, PR, PoE2, Pirates, and OPK. Then going to the EA website you see promotions and pictures detailing the new BF2 pushout with mods and of course the in game banner pushing it as well.
Then on the backend we see a lot of the tech stuff we have been asking for for the last 4+ years and opening up some of the code to us. Then to really break open the gates... they allow mods to be ranked on their system or ditch their ranking system all together (My personal pref).
Instead it is like doing sign language for Stevie Wonder and Dice just gets further and further detached from the BF player base and gamers in general making titles with little interest far away from the BF roots like Bad Co, Heroes, and abomination 1943 which is a total slap in the face with a kick in the nuts to all the die hard 1942 fans that would love a true sequal.
Well said. I've sold 5 copies of BF1942 to friends because of Desert Combat. Most of these people never actually played BF1942.
DICE really needs to stop playing lip service to the mod community. BF2 was supposed to be very mod-friendly, but it's not.
You can do better DICE.Comment

Re: Battlefield Online Announced in South Korea
BF2 is extremely cheap to buy right now, and even if this korean game is free to play, you need to pay if you want to be able to use unlockable weapons and stuff like thatOriginally posted by RangerXMLGreat, the Koreans get a fixed version of BF2...and it free and we get Heroes.
Heroes is good, just different. The battlefield series in general never were that popular in the asian market, so a korean studio makes a BF2 clone with most likely less features, maps and armies
Guys, you're not missing out. You should rage in the BF1943 threads insteadComment

Re: Battlefield Online Announced in South Korea
I am raging, at all this crap. 1943 will be fun to play, but its nothing more then a quick title to make a buck, worst part is that it seems to be part of a low development cost/quick to market strategy which is hurting the franchise. Anyone remember all those horrible Mario games that came into the market after the success of Mario Bros. 3, yeah that about sums of Battlefield right now.
I have always wanted a Battlefield Online, but something more along the lines of an MMOFPS (monthly fees, engine and content updates, regular patches). Not a crappy rehash.Comment

I'm confused. Doesn't the second paragraph contradict the first? You want DICE to stay true to the franchise and then you ask for an MMOFPS?I am raging, at all this crap. 1943 will be fun to play, but its nothing more then a quick title to make a buck, worst part is that it seems to be part of a low development cost/quick to market strategy which is hurting the franchise. Are you forgetting 1.5?Originally posted by RangerXMLGreat, the Koreans get a fixed version of BF2...and it free and we get Heroes.
CoH as in Company of Heroes? Never heard of a Korean version of that. And whatever happened to CS Online? Is it still being developed or did Combat Arms replace it?Comment

Re: Battlefield Online Announced in South Korea
Make a real Battlefield game (BF3) and make it on the model of an MMORPG, pay to play and GIVE US QUALITY. I'm one of those quality over quantity nuts you hear about every now and again. So no, I was not talking about staying true to the franchise, just want them to stop making trash.
I don't want them to do a half-arsed Battlefield Online, if they do something like this they should do it right. We have always complained about support, content and service; cool, then we should pay them to do it right. This free to play model just screams bad idea and the games are based on old engines that are contracted out or ideas that are rip off from other successful games.
Haven't forgotten 1.5, but have still to see it.Originally posted by WizrdwartsAre you forgetting 1.5?Comment
