Battlefield 1943 Q&A with Gustav Halling

Gustav Halling, a designer over at DICE, has sent us a very nice Q&A about Battlefield 1943 that he translated from his interactions with the Swedish Battlefield community. It should answer a few questions you guys may have about the game.

You can head over to his blog to read it and ask any other questions you may have. Thanks for the info, Gustav!

Great...so in order to make 24 players seem like a lot, they shrunk the maps? Or made the people giants?

And the reason you'd see 64 player maps empty/half-full in BF2 is because of the lack of vehicle balance forcing everyone into IO Karkand. Balance the vehicles such as in BF2142 and you'll have 48 and 64 man servers full no problem. Lots of full Titan servers, and the Tampa server I play on is often around 75%-100% capacity (64 man). Using the above as an excuse to justify making it only 24 players is piss-poor.

cant they make it 32 players for the pc?

when bf1942 demo came out it was wake with 32 players and it was really good.

i'm sure most BF players have pc's that can handle 32 players

Or maybe people just like Karkand...?

Do they seriously think even console gamers would be happy with this crap? =/

And not allowing larger player count on PC just because PSN/Xbucks LIVE can't handle it sounds pretty lazy to me.

            Fair enough.

*hopes BC2 has at least 32 players*

I would write a reply on his blog, but can't come up with anything that isn't about BC2 :awes

So because it's multiplatform there won't be any more than 24 people?

It's like DICE doesn't even have an internet connection and therefore is absolutely oblivious to everything that happened with BF2.

The 64 slot servers were mostly half-full? Give me a break... http://www.game-monitor.com/search.p...vars=&game=bf2 ...and this isn't even peak time

you know, they always have the option of making the PC version a little different and accommodate more players. you can't use the console limitations excuse for PC unless it is going to be a straight port of the console version with very little PC-fying.

Well they basically implied that the PC version would be the same. Otherwise, why would they have mentioned 64 player servers in the first place? The consoles have never had a 64 player slot server in a BF game.

Okay this game is going to FLOP hard. They should just withdraw with this project and came with something that people could even consider to play. They are underestimating gamers... :hmm:

And by the way in BF1942 there are 5 player classes. Nice that you have done your research from game you are """remaking""" there. :shakehead:

Whine whine whine. ***** ***** *****. I guess while most of you are twiddling your thumbs Ill be play some BF1943 goodness. I probably wouldn't make any games for the PC either with all this moaning and whining. And the funny thing is even if they did include 32 and 64 player maps, most of you would continue to whine anyway.

Heres what I want to know... Who the hell elected the Battlefield franchise as the new gateway game for 2 year olds whose fingers cant even reach the keyboard yet?

Last I checked, everyone who played the previous titles (the ones that made Battlefield what it is today) didn't need things spoon fed to them off a golden platter as if they were brain dead children, incapable of learning the ropes of a new game.

I thought thats what Tetris, Mario and Runescape were for. The Sims for christ sake. (another EA title...) Did those games not fully acclimate these people to the world of gaming yet?

If these tools need unlimited ammunition, bullets that "walk after eachother", matchmaking servers so they never have a proper challenge, fewer opponents so things don't get too crowded, smaller maps so they don't get lost, fewer classes so they don't get confused, and automatic spawning so they don't even have to find the damn battle... These jackasses simply don't belong on the battlefield, and this franchise clearly is not for them.

I'm liking what 1943 looks like overall, and am psyched about BC2, but I've about had it with the inexcusably consistent remarks/excuses about all these new and great features that are suppose to introduce 'new people' to the franchise...

most of us like the game and will still get it, we are just pointing out things we think should be changed, and as we've seen with DICE before, they will only notice a problem if everyone speaks of it 24/7 everywhere in the interwebs.

liking the game doesn't mean we have eat up anything they throw at us and love it.

                              doing that is just fanboy-ish.
