The demo of Left 4 Dead has a more narrowed time frame of release thanks to fresh information given to IGN. Valve's Doug Lombardi says that the demo for Left 4 Dead will be released in early November.
He also shares a bit on what to expect in the demo, in case you missed it previously.
The demo's "early November" release time frame is a lot more narrow than simply stating "prior to the game's release." We'll keep you updated once we hear a definitive date.

The main part of the game has you play as one of four survivors who are immune to the virus that has turned most of the population into a variety of mutant zombies.
The game begins — roughly 2 weeks after the break out of the virus - with the first of four expansive campaigns (five maps in each campaign). The first campaign is the hospital (officially dubbed, 'No Mercy' - as you're challenged to make it to the top of Mercy Hospital).
