Re: Race driver: GRID Demo
Wow, I am quite impressed with this demo. The graphics are good. The presentation is amazing (and just watch a replay, it's pretty exhilarating!) The CPU AI is pretty smart and the other racers will react to your every move. You'll even see them crash into each other or make a mistake and spin out on occasion which I found quite humorous. Crash damage modelling is very nicely done and affects the handling of your car accordingly. The Multiplayer option is simple and easy to get into.
I had a difficult time with the drift racing. I kept hitting walls and objects and I couldn't pass that challenge even on the "easy" setting. It was still a blast to play drifting. The other 2 challenges were a breeze.
My 8800GTS handles the game with 4x AA @ 1440 by 900 at a very smooth 60fps. :yay:
Looks like Race driver: GRID be well worth purchasing when it's released.
I got it to work just fine with my Logitech Dual Action.

Re: Race Driver: GRID Demo
Drifting requires a lot of practice to be able to balance the car in the slide. You have to make sure not to oversteer or to spin the wheels up too much, otherwise you'll be in a wall.
I do like when games have a small learning curve. I remember NFS drifting was too easy to do.Comment

Re: Race Driver: GRID Demo
Well, Itll tell you what. The game is cheap fun, if youre good at Gran Turismo games (and I mean good, like religiously good :P), its severely lacking in the challenge aspect. Its just another racer, but it has a hell of a lot better presentation and packaging than other racers. The menus are inspirational, but I had a lot more fun doing Indy 500 races back in 1996 when it comes to actual gameplay.
Think of it this way, last time I played a racing game on PC which I enjoyed, was Need For Speed (before the crappy underground and gangsta series) "old skool", so Im definitely severely out of shape. I havent played racers on PC since ~1999~2001.
I logged in to GRID, and won the first race on Normal.
Youre not losing out. I definitely suggest Gran Turismo for your racing masturbation needs, and Burnout series or Colin McRae 2 (w00t! old skool) or WRC2:Extreme for racing loving with your friends.
At least WRC2:E can be so rough on certain stages, that 3 minutes of racing in Cyprus will make your hands numb. CMR2 is just pure awesomesauce, and Burnout 2 is just full of coolness factor, without cheap gay glamour.Comment

Re: Race Driver: GRID Demo
This isn't meant to be Gran Turismo
But, your negative about most things, so it is worth a try Scinto. A lot of people seem to enjoy it here, maybe you will as well. It's not meant to be a siulator, it is just meant to be a nice quick racing game, and it succeeds in that department.
Obviously it won't outdo GT5, but not a lot will.Comment

Re: Race Driver: GRID Demo
GT isnt an epitome of racing, so Im not using it as a standard. I am however using GT as a standard when it comes to the challenge aspect. Having a quick and cool racing game is great, but if you have a look around, there are dozens of sub par "just" racing games out there, that dont have a soul, that special something. Like Burnout, for instance. Its a crazy cool arcade racer with hot sauce. Its incredibly hard to make a racer that sticks. GRID isnt one of them, unless you thing graphics are the end of all.
Not true, Im just more vocal about negative things. But, your negative about most things, so it is worth a try Scinto.
Its an optical illusion!!!!!!!!
Unfortunately "just" a nice quick racing game has a very short fun capacity. However, GRIDs saving grace is its online feature. A bareboned, nice quick and reliable racer is perfect for online racing. Throw in a bucketfull of individuality, external personafication of the cars (basically, bet on vanity), and its going to skyrocket.it is just meant to be a nice quick racing game, and it succeeds in that department.
Colin McRae Rally 2 does, around these parts, or rather... did.Obviously it won't outdo GT5, but not a lot will.

Re: Race Driver: GRID Demo
Quite a funny video indeed.
At least it feels like we're getting something fresh with GRID. GT to me feels like the same game over and over again. I'll probably get as much enjoyment out of GT5 as I currently get out of GT1.

Re: Race Driver: GRID Demo
So far I'm loving GRID great game will be first racing game I buy for PC and I am getting a Logitech MOMO Steering wheel.
And for that video I lol'd it was done well.
But the video does have a point over all these years GT have never had damage I dunno why this is maybe its cause its hard to code in or the The car Companies do not want it in there. But I would say it would make GT much better.
and again GRID RULES!Comment

Re: Race Driver: GRID Demo
So, wait, your telling people their own opinions? Your telling them what they can and can't like?
Just because people don't have the same opinion as you Chris, doesn't mean it's wrong.
Hopefully one day you'll find that out the hard way
