May i remind you of the entire Battlefield, Sims, Burnout, Need for speed series. Some of the most popular and best selling games out there providing entertainment to the masses and bringing the gaming market to rival that of Hollywood.
I would say if you looked past your bitter and EA hating views, you might see that actually, the good far outweighs the bad.
But, i guess it's just silly to side with companies since they are all greedy, slimy, wife beating paedophiles.... or at least that's what it sounds like when you use terms such as "Never have so few idiots, cost so many great players their enjoyment"....Comment

Are you saying that these game would not have existed if not for EA?
Because as far as I know most games are not developed by EA but published by them, an important difference.
EA is better known for buying successful series and creating soulless copies than for creating original games of their own.Comment

Yes, because few companies have the financial backing to publish games on so many platforms and so many countries.Comment

I am honestly going to print this quote on my t-shirt.May i remind you of the entire Battlefield, Sims, Burnout, Need for speed series. Some of the most popular and best selling games out there providing entertainment to the masses and bringing the gaming market to rival that of Hollywood.

games made Free like this along with supporting "Older computers" isn't pushing Innovation and will in turn do more harm than good.
EA and other game makers need to push Innovation and change..they need to push players to have to upgrade hardware and software to play these new games otherwise we all may as well go back to playing on the Atari 2600.
Crysis for example is the Next best MP/SP game on the market with a major step in the right direction.Comment

Which in turn forces rushed operating systems and bad hardware. Heard the amount of people moaning about upgrading to Vista...?
And, what you seem to be saying is that graphics, physics and other technical stuff is more important than gameplay.
The reason why i find Peggle Extreme more fun than Crysis is that it is different, challenging and creative. Sure, it hasawful graphics, but it's a whole lot more fun than Crysis.Comment

However
"For the most part, the industry has been rinse-and-repeat. There's been lots of product that looked like last year's product, that looked a lot like the year before."
July 2007 EA CEO John Riccitiello
Which could be taken as indirectly referring to EA's own titles as in the main part the series you list do represent rinse and repeat and looking a lot like each other.
The easiest example is BF2 and BF2142, for the same money you got one new game and one essentially reskinned game.
I think EA are well aware that they are becoming boring and that the consumer is becoming wise to the fact that changing the teams and making adjustments in the Fifa series without it actually being a new game does not make it worth the same as an actual new game.
With Heroes we are at least starting to see something a little more original from EA, even if they still cant get out of naming everything Battlefield.Comment

There was more innovation in most "old" games than you see today, not the least because there was no existing ideas to copy.games made Free like this along with supporting "Older computers" isn't pushing Innovation and will in turn do more harm than good.

Better graphics is not innovation, it is just evolution. And that is also why games like Crysis will only be interesting for half a year until a shinier competitor comes out, because they have nothing new and innovative to offer.Comment

Amazing graphics don't mean that much to me tbh.
You should know that some of the most popular games on the other side of this world don't have flashy graphics. Gameplay, originality, story, or playability sometimes mean much more to them.
However, hardcore people definitely will side against this notion. Not realistic, not good graphics, and definitely not 'just-for-pros'.
As for the micro-transaction, we just have to see whether it's a success or not in the Western world. But overall don't get too biased against it. Trying to kill out new ideas will simply make things narrow-minded while others flourish before us.Comment

my most played game online is still diablo II... so graphics arent very important to me, but my 8800gt is ready for whatever might come hehe.
just dont make vista only games, damn OS is still horrid for gaming compared to good old xpComment

Here are a few things that make a good game, if any of these are laking then the games lifespan will have serious problems.
Sound
Gameplay
Graphics
Storyline
Replay Value
Developer Support
A perfect example of a game that excels in all of these is the Metal Gear Solid series. Yes unfortunatly all of the good ones are only available on Playstation, Playstation 2, Playstation 3, XBOX, and XBOX360. But the replay value of the game is extremely strong. You can always go back and play them and have as much fun as you did your first time playing.
Since EA is trying new things their upcoming games might just become titles that excel in the above criterias.Comment
