looking at the weak system requirements, i doubt this game will be of any interest for hardcore battlefield players. i will not expect anything because i'll only set myself up for a letdown.

btw, do you guys know IGA (in-game advertising) engine nearly broke BF2142? known as the "radial bug", it caused the game to freeze during map loading. some people still have the problem preventing them from playing the game. one example of how EA cares more for the advertising profits than having a quality game as they never really addressed this issue.

Aye, had to rename my Radial file otherwise the game died

Honest to god if they put some sort of pay for unlocks and crap in the next "proper" Battlefield I will lmao...but then again they rely on the stats to make up for the rest of the pie

And it isnt beyond EA at all...although i suppose I can hope they don't dabble in the dark arts this time but actually let Dice get on with what theyre doing

According to that article, there won't be any ads in the actual game levels, it will all be in the menus and loading screens and on the website.

After reading some pages of endless flaming , the game its like half year left to be released and you already flame it, and everyone whine about the micropayments that will give them a pea shotter while other have a nice weapon, why don't you guys learn to READ
Gamers will be able to buy items which customise their appearance in the world, but will not be able to seek an advantage through buying weapons.
I'm looking forward to this game, plus its free.

Because it's EA and lots of people have lost faith in EA.

Its like racism, people aren't naturally racist, they become racist through influence.

Same with EA, children are born to hate WoW, not EA. But, reading the EA forum for 5 seconds makes you anti-EA.

Go there and see what i mean, every post is whinging.

Knowing Battlefield, this will be the most fun game to date.

That's not necessarily true; most game developers are paid to develop a certain number of bugfixes (and occasionally content releases) after the inital product is delivered. This isn't just true for DICE: it's true for almost every game developer out there. Usually, the publisher decides how many hotfixes and patches will be made, and anything beyond that needs to be done off company time and at the programmer's expense.

So far, I've seen one company dedicate themselves to doing that -- and they went bankrupt.

Guild Wars has something like this. Only problem is when you get people essentially putting shock images on their uniforms and such. As much as I'm sure most of the world enjoys that stuff, I sure don't. An option to turn off the custom material (per player perhaps) would be required in such situations.

And don't be a jerk and respond with, "Well play on adminned servers, duh." That's not the point.

You must not know me very well
The option to turn this type of thing on/off per player would be an excellent thing to have. As I have seen some things in source based games that just aren't right and could not be caught by an admin as the person spraying the images would soon cover it up with bullet holes to cover their tracks.

What will make or break this game is whether microtransactions will be kept as non-gameplay changing items. I know it's already been stated they will not give advantages to the buyer, but DICE has also said this about Expansion buyers being able to bring their new guns into the vanilla battles. It can very well create a disparity between players that, no matter how small, can easily turn away new advertisement fodder. Also, it depends on how expensive these transactions are. Paying $1.00 may not seem like a whole lot of cash, but if you're paying that much for a new grenade model I would call you foolish for paying that much for something so trivial.

To add to the 'what would make microtransactions work' line of thought. If you can earn buyable items by xp (like 2142), or even by completing certain tasks (think CoD4 achievements), then I can easily stomach the idea of other people paying for items. It would be win-win for DICE given that increased playtime earning the items = more viewed ads, while the impatient fork over the cash they would've of got for advertising up front. I know some of those Korean games have similar tactics, earning in-game cash for battles won and also the ability to buy them using real cash.

As long as players think they don't NEED to buy the items, DICE can retain players who would otherwise think that not buying items means you're pretty much playing a demo until you fork it over.

Anyone wondering how they are going to noob this game down more? I mean, there is already terrible cone of fire, and slow butt movement, and the jump button might as well be the suicide button, whats next? everyone who goes into a firefight pulls a lever, and a coin is flipped? its getting ridiculous how easy BF games have gotten starting from BF2.

Yes, I am most definitely worried about what simplification means. I played 1942 almost exclusively in the sky, but I'm betting that Heroes will have a flight model in line with Rogue Squadron: auto-level flight and slight auto-aim. I was hoping DICE would revisit WW2 just so I could have some amazing dogfights with awesome graphics. The new style wouldn't have been and issue if it retained 1942's general feel, but if the flight model is too simplified I'm probably going to move onto other games rather quickly.

Good point, make sure Battlefield Heros includes a learning curve. This way people will have to practice before jumping in a vehicle or holding down the trigger button. This way mods don't have to add this missing element to the game.
