No offence, but the last time you guys had an opinion about a game, you were totally wrong. The reciprocal happened in reality.

I would actually wait, before commenting.

What game? If you're talking about qw then I'll be the first to admit that I was totally and completely wrong. About anything else I'd say we were pretty much correct (2142 being the next bf:v is pretty much the only thing I remember us talking about)

Don't get me wrong, Dice has proven they can make excellent games (bf1942, bf2), but they've also proven they can totally and utterly fail (bf2 1.3 anyone?). To me this sounds like another quick and easy way to milk the bf franchise for all its worth before throwing it in the pile with all the other ruined franchises (madden). For example, bf has always been a pc game, do we really need a console version for people who pretty much only play halo?

I don't want/care about a "free" (HA) game that will basically force you to pay money so that you won't be brutally owned by every single person who did while totally ripping off the success of tf2. What I want is a true sequel to bf2, that brings us a fun, deep game we can play for years to come.

I never made a comment about Crysis if that is what your refering to, I knew it was going to be a Far Cry style game with better graphics.

It's pretty obvious this time, it's going to have something herrific about it.

Perhaps its free as its going to be covered in advertising, like trackmania nations. But instead you can purchase yourself a nice McDs uniform, and go around throwing people Medi McBurgers.

I agree, you Sir. people seem more interested in ruining peoples excitement and flaming everything based on non-existent facts.

What about you wait until the game is out, or at least some more details are out before you judge it.

I'm not saying it's an excellent idea by EA, but it's different. They could have come out with this and charge £40, but instead they have chosen a different means of doing things, which in turn, should hopefully work out cheaper for the consumer as you only pay for what you want.

Everyone is so hung up on BF3 and Bad Company that anything different is deemed to be a bad thing.

By going out and flaming every single part of the game, all your doing is stifling the creativity of developers and producers. Sure, not every game is excellent, but, as everyone knows, you learn from your mistakes, and sometimes it takes a few bodged releases before something excellent comes out, as good members provide constructive criticism explaining what is wrong, and what should be done better next time. Don't get me wrong, i'm not saying Heroes will be a bad game, far from it in my opinion, but i it doesn't live up to expectations, you don't have to buy anything. You can simply say, it's not to my liking, i'll move on

So, before going out there and flaming left, right and centre give it a chance. It's hard for developers to please people when the fashion is simply bash them.

So, give it chance. if you don't like it, move on, nothing lost.

I don't think EA can ever do anything successful if people don't give them a chance.
The game is released in summer and people are flaming it already.....

I see your actually agreeing then...

If they wanted to make a truely epic game, they could use these extra developers to make more content for BF3! If they're upto the job!

Have you ever played a DICE game?

Its just another excuse to make more money. It's a free game yeah, but you got pay to play with half-decent stuff.

I was playing 2142 like 3 months ago, and their was a Jay Z American Gangster billboard. I mean, WTF?

                The adverts aren't even relevant.

This business model for free games with 'pay for upgrades' is a tried and proven method in the south east Asian market. It was only a matter of time before it was adapted in this manner for the West. The top title using this method in SE Asia makes 4 million dollars per month from these 'micro-payments.' Not small fries!

And honestly, if the game is good enough, the people will pay. If you get a free game but make a few small payments for upgrades or unlocks, you're still getting a good deal. Of course, if you don't like the game, you are not out of pocket in any way except for the bandwidth cost of downloading it. This is a big gamble for Dice in my opinion and hats off to them.

My issue though is that people who pay for upgrades obviously get an advantage over other players with better weapons/equipment. This could either perpetuate the spending of other players to keep up with those who have better equipment, or drive people away from the 'elite' players. My question is, for a game that is obviously 'dumbed down' for the masses and looks like a cartoon....are EA targeting the age group that actually have the money to spend on extra content?

You named it, QW. I mean no disrespect, but the hype you (we, I was part of it I remember), was totally negated by the game itself.

But the past is past, I am glad you agree. :)

BF2142 was just a bit of a let down. And I don't want to see DICE waste their resources on this silly idea. Really want a good BF3 release!

Of course, the doom3 engine was never designed to include vehicles, open maps, or more than 4-8 players per server. We should have seen it coming but due to the hype we were all blinded. Thats honestly what I'm afraid of here, dice is a very small outfit and having them split up this badly on 3 (supposed, of course) games will only hurt the quality of them all. Mostly I just wish they'd go back to their roots and stop all this free and console nonsense and just work on the awesomeness that bf3 could very well be.

I'm sure your aware of a businesses primary aims.

That is the same as any game. You want the good stuff, you have to pay. But, at least with this, you can sample before buying.

You really can't expect a completely free game. They could have come straight out and charged £40, but view it as a larger, extended demo. You play, and if you like, you buy add ons.

What you buy is up to you. your simply paying for what you want, a concept that if executed correctly (IE. balancing is well done), could prove to be very successful.

AFAIK, the only game I know of that charges for small upgrades is Second Life.

                            Anyone know of any others?

Thats the f***ed thing about The BF Series. Everyone moans it sucks and it lags and it CTDs and you can't mod this and you cant change that..

Yet everyone still frickin' plays it, it's mad.

Flight simulators do in a sense, like £10 per aeroplane, quite a bit.
