I have a few unsolicited thoughts about the mod.

    1. The sound effects are horrible. It sounds as if every vehicle is right next to you. I also keep getting a sound that sounds like a camera being used. Maybe that is a part of the game that I just haven't figured out yet, I don't know.

    2. Maps are way too big, especially since half the time all the vehicles are gone.

    3. Everyone says "squad up and the experience is awesome". I disagree for this reason.....FH2 is a mod that your run of the mill bunny hopping grenade spammer won't play, so it would go to reason that the more experienced players would go to FH2. It has been my experience that many of the people in the more experienced category are also jerks who get on power trips in a squad since they consider all other players...even those with higher scores than them...inferior to them. They then have the audacity to get mad when you don't follow orders, especially when you think they are poorly leading the squad and let them know so. I will rarely find a squad that both works together and is not full of jerks. I mostly form my own squad now-a-days just to keep from being auto-switched.

    4. For a mod that took 2 1/2 years to make I just expected....more. The only thing that I really see more of is anti aircraft emplacements, and lots of lanterns with the flame going in all the little tents.

    5. What's with the sky flashing all the time? I know it isn't my video card, so is it supposed to simulate a trip on LSD or something?

    6. I know that someone will want to type, "Why don't you make a mod then hotshot?" Well, I can't. I also don't want to. At the same time I am not posting 2-3 times a month to the front page of TotalBF2 about how my totally awesome kickass mod is coming along, either.

I have played POE2, EOD2, DCON, and a couple of other mods quite often. I played them when they first came out, and the before mentioned mods were ALL superior to the first release of FH2, despite many of them coming out a year earlier. The reason that most of those mods are dead or dying is the same reason this one will die despite all of the fanboys at the moment. Too many people want their shiny unlocks and pixellated military ranks next to their name.
I know that this post will get under the skin of a few, especially the "you just can't handle realism" crowd. I can handle a mod that has more realism to it, Project Reality mod is a great example. Besides, if you want realism, the military is hiring. If you go to the REAL desert, say hi to my brother in Iraq. Me, I will just be enjoying my intentionally arcadey vanilla game, with a few detours to FH2 and others from time to time to see if any improvements have been made.

I agree with everything you said - Yea - and I think the "cod4 effect" had something to do with it too.

Is he ranting about another thing being bad?

He hasn't left the CoD4 forum and still continues to say how bad and inferior to Crysis it is. :shakehead

He complains about virtually everything. It actually isn't so bad this time.

At any rate, i am very glad rapecam is gone.

...And he calls me a troll.

Played today a bit for the first extended time, had a good time! My main problems are the busy HUD but thats from begin so used to PR. The hit indicator, crosshairs, and abundance of colorful messages give me a headache..

              At any rate, great mod!

It looks good from the screenies. I was big into the COD series which we had realism mods on, so i think i'd like this. I've had BF2 on the shelf for quite a while now, might have to dust off the box.

I wonder what it's staying power will be though. I think their release timing was horrible. COD 4 is HUGE atm, as well as TF 2. It's tough to compete against those.

According to Game-monitor. Right now there are just under 15,000 people playing COD 4, just under 10,000 playing TF2.

Now there are still a pile on vanilla BF2, 11,000 , but FH2 has a mere 800, not good on release weekend imo, hopefully it will pick up.

I always enjoyed playing FH1 and DCon via LAN with friends, gave me a warm fuzzy feeling inside.
alex raises a very valid point

I think it would be pretty funky if the FH2 team would make clones of the aircraft for SP/Coop purposes and use the variations in the SP/Coop GPO's

that way the MP crowd has thier SpitfireMKVb's in the MP GPO's while the offliners would have a varient called SpitfireMKVb_sp which has a nosecam (just as an example)

it wouldn't even increase the size much at all, all that would be require would be a custom con and tweak file for the plane using the original versions assets

PS the map 'battle for sfakia' is beautiful and really struck a cord with me, considering my grandfather served in Crete .

awesome mod, the hard work and attention to detail really shines through, well done

First off, The module is excellent. I thank all the people involved for their time and effort. Its the most visually polished mod I've seen for BF 2. Lots of great detail on the statics and their interesting placement on the map to create a very realistic mood and setting. Also, tons of original content on the statics--great job.

The weapon texture and models are first rate. My most favorite looking one is the sticky bomb(spheres rule!). Some static machine guns have very good wood textures on the MG's butt. All the commander radio setups have nice crisp textures as are the tent textures.

All sounds are good and add to the immersion nicely. As said before, the plane sounds flying overhead are reproduced quite faithfully including distant sound relation to client.

As we all know the vehicles are supurb looking as well as in gameplay.
The only gripe I have is the rear gunner on airplanes. Aiming is quite difficult for me. I can follow the tracers well enough, but it seems the recticle vs. mouse relation hangs up sometimes; even the tracers aren't lining up with were my mouse is--it just feels akward to me.

FH2, like FH, is balanced more towards the realism side of the spectrum. i.e. very rarley will one infantryman be able to take out a medium tank. One shot kills with the "beast" of the rifles. Artillery is nicely implemented but not greatly innovative due to the restrictions that are put on the source code by EA/DICE to protect trade secrets--yadda, yadda. So, by no means the FH2 devs fault.

And while I do enjoy reality gameplay sometimes(PR), I find that FH2 as well as FH, is lacking in the fun factor for my style of play. Maybe this has to do with the fact that I've been playing AIX co-op and almost exclusively using the little bird(two high powered mounted miniguns with splash damage)--which causes mass amounts of death and carnage to those poor little bots. You understand, I've been killing 100+ bots at least, in one round. So, maybe the translation from two big differences in gameplay has soured me to the slow, methodicalness of FH2--much more strategy, indeed.
I will put more time into the game to better learn the intracacies(sp). Maybe my opinion will change with my mood.

So again, Great work everyone and Thank You for the sacrifice of your time, money, sleep, etc. for the enhancement of the community. I hope for the best in future endeavors of all those invovled. I hope all those looking to further their careers in game production get what they deserve because there are some very talented people involved with FH2.

It's good that we hear from everyone about what they think. The ones unhappy seem to have had the wrong expectations from what I have read. I am a bit surprised by the feedback here. In game everyone is saying 8 or 9/10 that I have spoken to. I would give 9.4. ;-)

One thing I've noticed about the bots in FH2, is that they move in groups. Whenever I try to cap a flag, I usually get swarmed by a couple enemy squads, who for bots, are using alot of teamwork.
