I don't know what the answer is. It is tragic to me that BF2 cannot include mantling somehow.. but at least if you are going to make it impossible for a player to jump an obstacle, please do not make it look like a fence with crossbars_perfectly_positioned for climbing. It is most counter-intuitive and reduces the immersion considerably.
Perhaps you could place some low boxes/steps next to some fences and low walls so that we jump onto and then get over? Just a thought.

I have been waiting for a mod to tone down BF2's ridiculous jump height and you are the first I've seen that does. We do need some tweaking though so that players aren't so severely hamstrung.

I have a widescreen monitor with a resolution of 1680x1050 which all know bf2 doesnt support..tonite i managed to turn off scaling for my monitor and was amazed at how good the gfx seem to have become...I was not unhappy with them before but am very impressed with them now...I can say to all who are using widescreen to turn off scaling because it (to me anyways) seems to make the gfx more bland...I may be wrong of course but thats the way it seems...if this is the case then the poor old devs are getting crap for nothing because trust me they are gorgeous(the gfx not the devs)Very good work people...will continue to enjoy this mod for a long time to come!!

as I have posted in our own forums, I have a different view of this...I think it's very intuitive, and allows more immersion.

you are jumping fences because it's what BF2 taught you to do, not because it's what you would do in real life.

Soldiers don't jump fences. They are taught to STAY DOWN. Jumping a fence would surely get you shot. Crawling would be a more realistic choice.

the fences in the mod are between 3-4' feet tall. Put on some boots, and wrap a 20lb weight around your neck. Now go grab your dad's hunting rifle (or yours if you have one), unloaded of course, and go find a 3-4' tall fence. Now try to jump it like you would ingame. When you get back from the hopital, post here and tell us how that went...

There are several things in this mod that go against what BF2 has taught players, and we are catching a lot of flak for it...it comes down to learning a new way to play.

          I disagree with that takiwa.

yeah, a real person can't jump one of those fences, but they can climb them, so bad BF2 has not the awesome CoD system to code a believable animation.

But if you want to guide players use statics that nobody can climb in real life or is frustrating and atmosphere killer. The crawling thing will also work though, but that will not solve the jump over small sandbags or stone walls, your jump height is excesively downgraded.

Other thing I strongly disagree, the tanks speed, just check videos of T-34's or other of your tanks, your tanks are unrealistically slow, the hud speedmeter you are talking about is not acurate

Some more "wish list" points after adding another 2 hours gaming experience last night:

            * The open sights need to be slightly more clear on most hand guns.. Some times it is impossible to make out the sights when aiming at a darkish background although the lighting is day time.
            * The PPSh open sight is not centered, looks like the gun is aiming to the rights of my intended aim.
            * PPSh recoil is exaggerated.. lower it some. In real life it handles quite nicely in full auto. The round (7.62) is not overly powerful and the weapon is heavy and stable compared to e.g. MP40 or brittish Sten smg's.
            * I mentioned it in a post before.. The zoom factor of different vehicle weapons should be re-checked. Example when driving a tank the magnification when going to gun sight mode is about 0.8 or 0.9!
            * A anti tank rifle would be nice.. They were quite frequently used on both sides during the early years of the war when many tanks and armored vehicles could be effectively engaged by powerful anti tank rifles.. like Russian PTRD or German Panzerbusche.. You could also add a German Faustpatrone which reached the eastern front in mid '43.

Well since this was going to me, johny, and because you have soooo much knowledge about what you are talking about i will not argue about that anymore...after this post ;-)

Your picture is done wihout AF, set it to 8x or higher and you´ll see a big difference(most of our screenshots are looking miles better than yours). About the bad models??? Well than they are bad - drop BGF and stop posting your XXXX.

ah...if anyone is interested and has the same problem of scaling options not sticking...download the fix from the following page...i was sick of playing non widescreen games with stretched gfx.

                      @ Lobo...

your tanks are unrealistically slow, the hud speedmeter you are talking about is not acurate
it is accurate when everything is scaled to the same speed. All speeds in the game are relative to one another. The tanks speeds, the plane speeds, and the player speeds all interact. It would certainly be bad if the tanks were slowed but the infantry and planes were not, but this isn't the case. In any event, we all have differing opinons about the speed issue, BGF's stand is that these are correct speeds according to RL specs (off-road speed, as stated before), and are all relative to one another.

Our turning speed could certainly be improved, we are using the NewTank Engine as opposed to the regular tank engine, and it has some rewards and drawbacks. These will be ironed out over future releases, I assure you

                      @ alex98uk...

in your second picture, this texture isn't a graphics issue. That plane (as well as a few others) have no 1P cockpit yet, so what you are seeing is the 3P cockpit. As we finish the 1P cockpits we will replace these.

on your third pic, I'm not sure why your distance textures are displayed so fuzzy like that, but I am starting to see a major issue here with the way textures are displayed on different systems with different video cards. I am relieved that it is not mod related, but troubled because I don't know what to do to fix it.

I am sorry Takiwa that you did not seem to read my posts properly and wasted time defending against an accusation I never made. There were three vital things you missed..

1 - I agreed the jump height was very unrealistic in vanilla BF2
2 - I suggested not being able to CLIMB fences in your mod was equally unrealistic.
3- I noted this dilemma was due to the (climbing) limitations of the BF2 engine and suggested an alternative compromise of placing low boxes, sacks or something near SOME fences that one can not currently cross in your mod but could easily climb in real life. So with a couple of jumps with your current jump height one could get over in certain spots. What say you about this? Has the mod team already considered it?

I couldnt sayd that better way :salute:

Talking about realism, in my army time we climbed over 2 meters walls, with no problems at all. And i was able to run with my handgun 3km with no problem. How long run you can make in BGF? To me it seems like 50m or so.
Comon guys dont be more belivers than the pope! One thing is to stick with speed numbers and another thing is how its going to work in game.

I personally dont care much about bad textures if you give me mature attitude demanding gameplay.

I dont want to offend you guys in any way , I just want to play better and more realistic BGF :)

and since EVERYONE will differ in opinion as to what is "realistic", I will only say this...

realism is in the eyes of the coder

We know what we did, and why we did it, whether it was because of engine limitations, or because that is just the way we felt it should be. It's real to us, and that is all we will go by. You are playing a product of our imaginations and talents, and we weren't payed by anyone to do it for them. We did it for free, for us. Now, please enjoy it, and watch it grow. A patch is coming, and then another, and then another.

To quote Lobo (this is my new saying now, Lobo, thanks )...I'm not perfect :)

Some one mentioned it earlier... The stamina of the foot soldiers could be extended quite a bit. I'd like to see that I can run a lot more as many of the maps are really large.. So if I escape a burning vehicle and manage to survive I find myself spending most of my game time walking.. It takes forever getting around on foot. This way you loose people that could be involved in the action. Also, maps are not crowded with vehicles so on a 64-p server at the bases you see crowds of players running in circles trying to find some mode of transport to get to the fighting before the round ends..

ye, basically the only reason why we have a high jump height in PR is cos of that, but to get around "bunny hopping" etc we just make it useless cos sprinting in PR is much more valuable to get out of the way of a bullet than jumping, and if you do jump it drains loads of your sprint, so if you try to bunny hop you have around 2 jumps, then after that no steam left to do anything apart from do afew "mini jumps", which you are most likley dead from doing the first jump anyways :)

and ye, the vBF2 HUD speed system, god knows what kinda drugs thats on.... only way to really get the real speed of a vehicle is to just set out a 100m track, and time how long it takes to cross it :p
