    Modding Rules Clarification

EA has released a statement today addressing some confusion the community has had regarding mod content. Listen up:
There's been some confusion in the Battlefield modding community about what DICE allows when it comes to modifying our games. You'll all be glad to hear that the answer is fairly straight forward:

    - You can only use Battlefield 2142 content in Battlefield 2142 and the same applies for Battlefield 2. This includes maps, sounds, models and so on. So for example putting the Battlefield 2 map Zatar Wetlands into Battlefield 2142 would run counter to this rule. Recreating a map "inspired" by Zatar Wetlands in Battlefield 2142 would be fine as long as all the models, textures and terrain are new or use Battlefield 2142 assets.

    - Booster and expansion content should stay within those confines. You cannot use content from booster or expansion packs in mods or custom maps. This includes game modes, models, maps. So for example you would not be allowed to create a standard Battlefield 2142 map with the Assault Lines game mode and the Hachimoto or a Battlefield 2 map with the Su-25.

Part of the reason for this is that the vehicles and game modes have only been tested in the game or booster they were designed for. We hope that clears things up and look forward to seeing more excellent maps and mods from the Battlefield modding community.

You can find this original announcement right here.

    i retract my lol.

i find it funny that they stop support for bf2 BUT they are still going to be all anal about modding. they least they can do is put the source code up for sale.

What they don't know won't hurt them. Just make sure they don't know.

This is kinda funny cause I know a guy who argued with Dice and was ready to go to court over having the NS vehicles in normal or custom 2142 maps cause the vehicles were in a public free patch and that shut them up. And then Dice left him alone.

They sure do have quick timing don't they. Two years after the release of Bf2 and almost to the exact date since BF2142's release back in Oct 2006 and they finally come out with a "clarification" on modding rules. This is another indication of EA realizing that more and more people are now resorting to mods instead of vanilla. Sorry for the sarcasm and negativity, but it seems these days you can't spell EA/DICE without irony or hilarity.:p

They have nothing better to do but to go after the MOD community, again.

**** you, Dice and EA. You don't give a **** about modders, I most certainly hope modders fight back by openly defying this crap. This makes me even more motivated to include some SF/AF toys in my mods.

Seriously, they haven't said ANYTHING to the BF2 community in many many months, why would they actually bother to download the mods to see whether they included any "forbidden" vehicles?

"Part of the reason is..." No. You're EA. Its money, and thats it. You never cared about instability or bugs in your games, and you sure as hell have never cared about the modding community, so just say it. You don't want people to have access to ANY content that could have resulted in more money for you, even if its a minuscule model. This is ridiculous even for EA/Dice. Is the supplemental cash from 2142's in-game adverts not enough for you?

I think EA is just trying to protect 2142... :blabla:

They could care less about BF2.

I do not see how this is new news. All they have done is include 2142 in the statement and still left many things vauge.
