LOL, so we quit the war, which means we lost. If you walk out in the middle of a competition, by defualt you lose.

    @DasRoach

You make some good points there. We played some PoE2, which is a great mod (but not many people play it). I also tried PR, but didn't like it too much to stick with it. I think when FH comes out, I will seriously look into that. It will be similar to BF 1942, but with the newer engine and squads.

Regarding stats, I agree that the stats could have been handled better, but from an sales point of view, they (EA/Dice) did something right because of the games success. But ranked game has become stale because of the same maps. If there were new maps being release or community made maps being added, the "vanilla" part would be better.

      Re: BF2 Stats Problem

IMO, there is nothing wrong with stats by themselves. The problem with the BF2 stat systems lies in the "getting guns from rank," and all the badge time, and medals.

This makes people do things they might not have done otherwise. In essence if DICE did not have "acheivments" then noone would work towards them. All you would have is your personal stats that don't amount to acheivments unless client dictated.

But then again, acheiving certain things leads to people playing more time in RANKED servers. Which in turn cost more than unranked, which leads to more money for the providers & EA/DICE. From a business standpoint it is a very good idea. It seems they were wise from examples set by MMOs like EQ & WOW, etc.

Welcome to adulthood son. Yes, opinions matter. Opinions make the world what it is. It will dictate certain things for your future as well. Will your boss have the opinion that you are a good worker ( I hope so). Will the Supreme Court share your "opinion" that video games don't cause societal violence?

Opinions are everywhere....but those that matter are born from critical thinking.

If stats are that important to you....then why play to win at all?

Who here will raise their little hand and proclaim that they play for "stats"?

I, along with many others (mainly in the competition community) play to win. Just as in life...I play to win.
You clearly did not comprehend his reply regarding about your own opinion. He didn't question the significance of opinion in general, but how you and others consider their as the absolute truth and right. Since you seem to be well into adulthood, I would expect you to realize that opinions are not right nor wrong, much less being facts: even bosses and the Supreme Court change their opinions often.

stats is about $$$$$$ and nothing more...

no stats or stats only to winners seems to be the only way to go. Sure everyone will end up on the losing team as you want to base it on the V-war but ohh well some win some lose, losers get purple hearts.

I find it rather amusing that I'm attacked and called an a s s. I did not personally attack anyone because I don't need to. I'm not wrong, I'm right. His, as well as your veiled attacks are ad hominem.

You can't attack the substance of my opinion, so instead, you attack me personally in order to diminish my opinion....and yes, I'm right on that as well.

So let me guess, you LOVE stats.

Wake Island is another perfect example of a great map ruined by the stats system. USMC has every opportunity at the start of the round to cap the PLA main, but soooooooooo many people are waiting on the carrier for the F-35 or a chopper so that they can "own" and beef up their stats.

USMC, if they used teamwork, could have 6...yes 6 squad leaders on PLA main within the first minute of the round but it never happens because people are too stupid to realize it and too absorbed in their own lust for the almighty stat.

in the beautiful world that has other people in, its called an argument where you state your claim in what you believe is right, and then the other person sands up and attacks that claim. which in this case would win simply because you come across as one of those people that think they know best. those people are also probably the most hated people around, so go on, spread your little shitty theories to people that want to hear you.

Thanks for proving my point that you can't attack my opinion outright without resorting to personal attacks.

Since you think that you are the pillar of wisdom here...please elucidate on how the PERSONAL stats system AUGMENTS TEAMWORK....please....can't wait to hear your counter to my opinion.

So let's hear it....how does the individual stats system make TEAMWORK better in BF2?

Please, by all means, answer the damn question instead of hiding.

also, maybe if you stopped going sniper, you'd actually be a force multiplier to a squad that caps flags....and you'd probably have more wins than losses in yer cute little sig. Just an observation of fact that you tout. amirite????

                    Re: BF2 Stats Problem

I made this post at Frontlines forums regarding stats. Thought I'd share it. This is only my opinion...

                    - ROE, or Rules Of Engagement. To prevent stat padding, the geniuses at EA decided to create ROE and enforce their rules on public ranked servers. Servers which people pay top dollars for to play on, but they have zero control over. You can’t run vehicle only, knife only or whatever only server, because that violate the ROE. So you and I are basically paying top dollars for ranked servers which we can’t even control, does this make sense? If you’re a normal person, then your answer is NO. Don’t get me wrong, I love their other features (reporting cheaters/exploiters etc..) but following their rules is total BS in my opinion.

Do not create rules for me to follow, as a server owner, let me make my own rules. Running server side MODS (increasing ticket count, having twice the vehicles in one map) keeps the game and map fresh in my opinion. Remember in Desert Combat, we had El AL servers with 1,200 ticket count, many vehicles etc..let us have FUN.

                    - Ranks promote team play, really? You get most of your meaningless badges/medals depending on how much time you spent and not on skill no? Heck, you even get a badge depending how long you’ve spent in a squad.

                    - Smacktards, adding Ranks/stats will give them another reason to TK you, because god forbid their friend Joe Blow already has his meaningless badge. Yes, I realize smack tards are in every game, welcome to public gaming. Idiots will TK you no matter what, they don’t care if you tk punish them or whatever, if they want what you have to get their meaningless ranks, they will tk you to get it.

                    - MOD community, as we’re witnessing in BF2/142, the MOD community have suffered a huge blow compared to 1942/BFV mods due to the meaningless ranks. Many talented individuals put out contents with little to no attention from the BF community, why? Because they don’t offer BF2 style ranks. BOO freaken HOOO.

I’ve read several people saying, who cares about the MOD community, all I care about is the main game blah blah. Well here is some food for thought: MODs will prolong the longevity of the main game. Desert Combat is the best proof. I guarantee you DC, GQ, FH helped to sell many copies of BF1942. And even though BFV was a crap fest, people bought it because of POE and other MODs.

Final thought, BF1942 (and many other games, but I’m using BF42 as an example) was very popular with out stats, well only BFtracks. The point is, BF1942 got popular thanks the support it received from DICE (back when they used to put out decent patches) to the BF and Mod community.
If you want your name to be on the leader board, and want everybody to see it, then I suggest to join as many ladder/leagues as possible and put your skills to the test vs other talented players, not average joes . I’m pretty sure 1v1 knife 2v2 jets/heli/armor ladders will be open, just like in DC days.

                          Re: BF2 Stats Problem

If points were awarded to just the winning team, it would take forever to rank up. The point count is already low compared to the target goal for each rank. From First Sergeant to Sergeant Major, you need 30,000 points. The average person earns between 30 - 70 points per game. Reducing the chance of getting any actual points to 50% would make it almost impossible, or atleast 24174198247 (random number, not actual calculation) hours of playing to actually rank up. This makes the game get boring pretty fast, as most people make a rank their target and play so they can get that rank.

The only way I could see this poorly thought out suggestion work, would be if the points per kill/teamwork (ammo, medic packs, revives, etc) increased a fair bit. Something similar to how the points are calculated on Project Reality.

It's the same reason why we never touch our single player console games. Most have no rewards, so once we've played it, we never touch it again. Since Battlefield 2 is an online game, the lasting appeal lasts a lot longer than if it was only singleplayer, but stats and awards make the lasting appeal that much longer.

                            Re: BF2 Stats Problem

I wish the stats would reward those who play as a team and in a way they do right now. I tend to get higher scores sticking with the squad, which is what I do normally. You can capture more flags, revive/heal/resupply your squad mates. You can also get more kill assists and easier kills because you should have multiple people firing at the same target.

I think the points you get from kills should be weighted. An AT soldier killing a chopper should earn more points than a jet spamming the ground and killing infantry. This would also entice the people in the powerful vehicles to go after the other powerful vehicles.

Some of the awards could have been thought out better. I think some of the time requirements are too much. Who cares if you've played a sniper for 100 hours if you can kill 35 people with the kit, you should get your badge. But on the same idea, kills from vehicles shouldn't count towards the kit combat badges.

If the majority of the people like stats, then EA/Dice did the right thing to add them to the game. They are a business and they need to make money. If they happen to do it in a way that doesn't fit a person's gaming style, they will have to find another game.
