    Re: No More Battlefield 2 Patches Planned

    I'll be disappointed if someone doesn't at least fix the bug that appeared after one of the original patches: the server info and IP rarely appear. I mean, it can't be all that complicated to fix, can it? It USED to work, so backtrack and find out WHAT caused it...I dunno, gameplay wise I still love BF2, and the f35 vs. j10 I've learned to live with, but it just gets frustrating not knowing which server you're on..AFTER you've connected.

    It doesn't make any sense. I don't think I've seen it in BF2142, although I wouldn't be surprised if it DID happen.

    PEACE

    EDIT: Here is a quote from the last patch (1.41, right?)
    - Fixed the missing server info on the map briefing screen.

      Similar stats at gamespy also.

      Yeah, I don't get this either. Easily twice as many players on BF2, yet their focus is BF2142? Doesn't make sense to me.

      More patches on BF2 would only increase players and satisfy all the people holding out on buying any expansions/boosters. Then they could turn around and release more expansions/boosters for more money. Why isn't the focus here where they clearly have their market advantage? Why do they keep betting on their losing horse? Why do they keep trying to split their consumers and hurting both games in the process?

      I get EA wanting to make money. I get DICE selling out to EA to make money. Money is good. But why not make continually smart choices to make even more? Did they make so much off of us that they just don't care at this point? Hard to believe.

        Re: No More Battlefield 2 Patches Planned

        Why anyone would be surprised about this is a surprise in of it's self. EA has been destroying or trying to destroy the PC games market to focus on console games (Although there are a few notable exceptions. The Sims series comes to mind.), because there is supposedly more money coming from the console market than the PC market. The evidence is all there, you just have to look and see. It's time all the game studios under EA's control do something to fight back and get their way. PC games, and to a slightly lesser extent console games, published by EA are all rushed out the door to make a profit as soon as possible. Riddled with bugs that EA is not willing to spend money on to fix. Eventually if not enough people buy a certain game or games of a certain genre, they all pretty much disappear, because there is supposedly no market and therefore no money according to EA. This kind of business practice is what is going to destroy the games market for all gaming platforms. Other publishers are kicking games out the door too early now, because they need to compete with EA. EA has become to large for it's own good, and it ruining the games industry.

          BF2142 is EA focus for one simple reason… The patches for 2142 are to keep the game playable, because they have more “Booster Packs” (i.e. like Northern Strike) they wish to sell ($$$$$$) to the 2142 players.
          <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]--><o></o>
          Why they believe the BF2 players would not want more “Booster Packs” tends to fall under the current belief that they are hoping they the BF2 players will either:
          A) Get tired of BF2 and move on to 2142 (i.e. more $$$$$ for EA) or
          B) They will release a new game and BF2 players will buy it (i.e. more $$$$$ for EA - EA makes more money when you buy a NEW game verses a "booster pack")
          <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]--><o></o>
          It's just sad…

              Looks like ArmA is going to be my new game now.

              I wouldn't do that. ArmA is crap. That game died in its infancy. IT would be tremendously lucky if it had just a quarter of BF2 players. The gameplay is really horrible.
              OF course you have like 10-20 hardcore fanboys who would tell you different by then again they are biased.... ....and lonely.:laugh:

              It had potential, but sputtered out fairly quickly in the US release.

                i believe there WILL be a patch. i am encountering a problem to do with connection. After contacting EA support and trying several responses, none would work. Their conclusion was the following:

                Response (GM Sorif) 05/18/2007 01:26 PM
                Hello,

                Thank you for contacting EA support.

                The development team is looking into the issue at this time. The issue IGN had affected a wide number games that use gamespy for matchmaking but that has been corrected for sometime now. There is a patch coming later this month (no date announced yet) from what I have heard and hopefully it will address this issue.

                Take care,

                  Just so everyone knows, EA has publicly stated that they have <b>not</b> dropped support for BF2 - a statement that was made after and in response to the statements made by the ex-DICErs that this article was about.

                  Now, whether or not that means anything, time will only tell.

                      While that might be the case, it doesn't provide the community with confidence with regards to there communication or lack of that hurts the community and them taking there time. Which doesn't make sense when you compare 2142 vs. BF2, BF2 is still there strongest of the two and think dumbing everything into 2142 is going to make up for it just like they did with the Booster Packs which were basically nothing and they should have given us those as free add ons as they have really left the community with nothing.

                      The best thing for them to do would be for them to give us what we need to a leave it for what BF2 and let the modding community do what they do best. Fixing what they can for the community.

                        I agree, the greatest thing they could fix in the next patch, is to give full support to the community in the way of modding and mapping. UT lasted forever because the community was able to "fine tune" it the way they wanted. Could you imagine how great BF2 would be if the modders were just able to fix the bugs in vanilla BF2 (like the jet imbalance) like they did in PR/POE and still keep it ranked? I play the mods once in a while, but I still like vanilla, and if EA/Dice want to drag their feet in fixing all the "little things" then let the community fix it.

                            Not really... it's quite different from BF2. BF1942 and BFV were more similiar than BF2 and BF2142. I personally still prefer BF2, mainly because of the mods. With the immenent release of the US Intervention mod v0.15, I will be playing that in place of vBF2 or BF2142.

                              not really - you gotta pay $$ for 2142. Personally I've kicked the rank system to the curb and have been playing POE2 lately.

                              kinda funny - people rant about how EA doesn't do anything for the mod community, and this point outage is doing more for mods than anything else in the history of BF2. No points? Who cares - play a mod! :yay:
