I'm not surprised by the hype at all. Theres good hype, bad hype and then theres just dev teams who let their talent speak for themselves. Perfect case is Forgotton hope2. Beautiful renders, flawless content and polite/humble devs. Thats good hype.
You cast aspersions at stangers all the time? I won't make any snide comments about you in return because I actually do believe in the community. The immature and ill informed things you write about me are exactly what is wrong with it. Seems no one can take a suggestion or critique these days without flaming/name calling or general sarcasm being involved. *sigh*

I really hope dcon becomes what it can be, as all mods for bf2 should be nurtured to keep things fresh and alive. Good luck

FYI... never got into CS, have played the battlefield series since Dice made Codename eagle and stopped getting hand-outs from my parents in the early 90's. DC is of course legendary. I played it to death.

        I don't understand!
If we didn't like this mod does it mean that we never played bf42 or Desert Combat and we come from CS? This is so selfish as well as childish.

And now i come to understand why FH2 tries to make a complete and decent 1rst release! They r not gonna have anyone complaining about so bad texturing and stuff. Personally i prefer to play the original DC of '42 era (if i could find many servers). But i ll reconsider on the next release!

Punch and pie urban siege 24/7 gets full at the weekend and there's a few decent regulars, they also host a NFZ CTF.
Hosted in England so may be too much of a ping if you're in the States or that cold place to the north.

Congrats for your first release, we modders know how tough is to mod BF2, so any mod team releasing a mod deserves a place in the Hall of Fame of the desperados that give blood, sweat and tears for nothing, haha. This is the first step of your adventure. I am sure you will fine tune all the small problems hearing the feedback of players

My only complain could be the infantery combat: decrease the jump height, decrease the infantery speed and discourage bunnyhoping to bring back the good old BF42/DC infantery combat. Just my humble opinion, indeed

I played DC right up until BF2 was reelased, i have tried this Alpha test but its far too buggy for me, when a beta or the full version is released i may go back and play it.

and I find it extremely strange for the devs to compare this alpha with the original DC alpha.
i guess you never played dc .1

Thank you all for your comments/feedback regarding our first release. Please keep em coming, constructive criticism are always welcome. We are here to listen/take notes and will do whatever in our power to make the fans happy.

As it was said numerous times by the Devs, the Alpha release is aimed at CODING, trying to bring back the DC feel to the BF2 engine. The .2 release will have plenty more content etc...

I am flattered to see this mod is being discussed in many clans, ladders and other Mods forums.

I think he means that this is not DC nor is it the same team Troy, you may as well start comparing every mod to DC.1 .This is a different mod on a different engine by a different team, there should be no comparison at all imho.Copying the maps and feel does not count...

Re: Desert Conflict v0.1 Client Released

Anyone that follows the DCon threads knows I've been highly critical of them for a long time. They even got me banned from these forums because they didn't like what I had to say and complained to the TBF mods to get rid of me. So what I'm going to say about DCon right now should stand out even more:

It's the first BF2 mod that has been done right. They actually tried their best to bring back the feel of the original Desert Combat and I think they succeeded with the gameplay mechanics and physics. The helicopters and jets are reminiscent of Desert Combat and require a semblance of skill to fly and the weapons don't have the ridiculous cone of fire the BF2 weapons suffer from.

The maps in DCon still need work, that is a given since it's an alpha release. I've mentioned the lighting issues in other posts and I'm sure the DCon guys are aware of it themselves.

Others have complained about the vehicles being unrealistic because they accelerate too quickly (e.g. tanks). To that I must say, have you ever played Desert Combat? The DC I remember had the same attributes. If I'm not mistaken, this mod aims to mimic the original, so why the fuss?

Furthermore, their emphasis on gameplay over realism is what makes this mod great and I don't understand why people keep comparing it to other failed mods like POE2. POE2 is a mod that had a lot of promise but it didn't deliver for those of us yearning for DC type of combat. It's weapons still suffer from the same inaccurate fire that BF2 has--they only kill faster when zoomed in. While this lends itself to realism, it does nothing for fast paced arcade play which is something DC had in spades and why it was revered so much by the community.

One of the FH2 devs here suggested that bunny hopping and movement speed be reduced--my response as a hardcore DC and skill based FPS fan is to increase the stamina, run speed and keep the jump height as it is. If there are those out there that want slow boring gameplay, I'm sure they will have a home with FH2 (no offense).

Despite my differences with the DCon mods in the past, I want to say excellent job guys. I think you're on the right track with this mod and whatever you do, don't cave to the whiners here.

^^I just checked hell, it's official. It froze over

This mod is bad ***. The thing that needs to be remembered is this is an adapting mod that's going places.

These guys took so long because they wanted to work out as many bugs as possible. As a tester (for a short period of time) I saw this mod grow big time. Kiff and the other guys busted their asses to get fixes out for problems we all pointed out. This mod is meant to be a fast paced (Arcadish) game, not compared to mods shooting for realism. I personally think they should make you sprint all the time and never run out of stamina when you jump (if everyone is moving at the same rate it's fair). This is the time that you guys play it and let the devs know what is liked and disliked.

I heard one person say he "loved" the Heat sinking missiles, and that DCon should have left those in... This mod isn't for him or anyone else who prefers the HS tracking... This is a mod that requires you to lead with your straight dumb fire missiles.

I prefer there to be no flares or sound/heat boxes for jets.
I prefer the Artillery to have crosshairs.
                        The guns need work.
I prefer for Engineers to have to get out of the vehicle and fix things, not just be adjacent. (this could be hard coded into python though, so I could live with it).

There are other things that need tweaking, this is where your voices come into play. Let them know.

If you prefer PR or FH then play them... I like PR and I will play it, but this is DCon and I will play the hell out of this mod too. Still need to download FH, I'm sure I would like that too.

I saw someone post about this not being compared to DC... Your point was moot, this is based off Desert Combat. What can ya say? Frank Delise (http://www.frankdelise.com/index2.php) inspired many...

Ill try it when its done. Alpha releases ALWAYS suck regardless of the hype or mod teams skills.

...thats why you wait until beta to make it public. It sucks just a little bit less.

Re: Desert Conflict v0.1 Client Released

I went through the 11 pages of this thread specifically to read Joker5150's review. The DCon team must be elated that they have won their biggest critic over.

I have to agree with what Lobo said about runspeed, however. I remember in DC trying to sneak up the mountain that surrounds the Opposition base on Desert Shield and having a difficult time finding a path that would allow me to get to the top of the mountain to spot arty.

I can pretty much run up the mountain anywhere, very easily and scope and spot very easily.

                              Anyway, a very minor quibble.
