Re: Desert Conflict v0.1 Client Released

Every new mod/game will have that shortly after it's release m8...
that really is no news if you played other Battlefield titles before.

give the ppl 2-3 weeks to settle down.

SO a criticsm and an honest observation arent the same thing? Doesnt matter anyways.

If USI and DCON are competing for soemthing, please let the rest of us know, lol. Must be all the money we are making on the work.

Screens? Guide to what's actually new in this mod that sets it apart? I went to your website and there is no website, just forums and redirects to download links. I was quite surprised by the massive level of hype surrounding dcon to not find a simple "whats in our mod" guide without having to trawl through news posts and threads to find anything.

Maybe I'm mistaken. Is there a link to your content page? Is there a content page?

I guess I'll not give any opinions at all here as there seems to be a hyper sensitivity towards any feedback that is not praise. One thing though...to see dcon devs acting the way they are with the public in this thread is pretty embarrassing.
You had some pretty enormous shoes to fill from the outset so unless you *absolutely* believe you have the highest level of game industry standard content, (I can't comment on that because I'm still hunting for showcase screens..found a few, but not many.) ...please, for the sake of wisdom and your own grace, take the criticism in your stride. All this backlashing and to-and-fro'ing from dcon members just sounds tacky and immature.

I wouldn't buy a car, or anything for that matter if the salesperson was acting like this in front of me. Just leaves a bad taste and casts a bad light on everyone who's worked so hard and long on this mod. I sincrerely hope you don't think I'm attacking you, but just believe a certain level of professionalism and aplomb can go a long way. (The overhyping didn't help either. The public is always going to tell you what they think no matter how good you tell them its going to be. The only diference is the height of the fall afterwards if you don't deliver.)

Back on topic: do you have a showcase section with all the content anywhere? I base my decision to download on many things, but the level of quality in the content is always at number 1) Cheers.

Hahah...I am loathing the internet community more every day. If you are surprised by the hype of Desert Combat, then your parents must of just bought your Emachine because DC is legendary in the Battlefield universe. Then again if you are one of the millions of CS zealots whose first game was BF2 then you might not know this.

I can't believe you wasted that much time on this post. Yes they have an actual website, but it was getting hammered by people downloading it so I am sure thier webguy just redirected the site to the forums. Give it a day or so if your attention span can last that long and go back and enjoy. They have tons of content.

I am also amazed at people comparing this Alpha release with other mods that have had several releases. I miss the old Battlefield community...

Re: Desert Conflict v0.1 Client Released

                      this was way overhyped.
and I find it extremely strange for the devs to compare this alpha with the original DC alpha.

anyone from around that time knows that the original DC was developed in a time period when there was no editor, no mod support and very little helpful information on forums (eg the editor forums)

the circumstances/environments in which both mods where made where totally different and there should be no comparison IMHO.

If USI and DCON are competing for soemthing, please let the rest of us know, lol.
you are competing for players ... duh

all in all, not bad for an alpha but it was far too hyped...

its as if we were promised the messiah and all that turned up was some homeless guy in a robe.

I guess this post will upset some ppl, but its my honest opinion.
in the meantime, I'm going back to POE2 & PR .. maybe DCon .8 or .9 might be worth playing.

Mmm at first i was not pleased with it , but after playing it a lot more its quite fun , mainly due to lost village imo its better than the 1942 one...and outskirts of mosul but for the guns...the rpg needs nrufing a bit and hopefully some new weapons .

Re: Desert Conflict v0.1 Client Released

I got from the factory to the runway on El Al and gave up because of the lag. It took 5 seconds to take 1 step after I got to the runway.

So I cant really give a real opinion, but I will say I was surprised to see the same default hand weapon icons and GUI/HUD art. Thats a very small alteration and goes a long way to making a game feel original. The HUD is on screen more than anything else in your mod.

IMHO i think Dcon should go the FH way - release it when its done - i think Dcon WILL go a long way but i think the release was just a bit to early :\

What happened to all those renders you had about a year ago? Like the M249, MP5, Socom, T72, Harrier, and others I cant think of.

For what it's worth...as a veteran Desert Combat player and server provider, I can say without any reservations, that DCON got it right. The feeling is there gents. sure, it needs work but what mod doesn't? I know that the DCON devs know their own shortcomings better than any of us. For a first release, I say hell yeah...great job.

As with most of the great mods that have been produced thus far, they will only get better with each release.

For all the negative commenters, give yourself a real chance to see what lies beneath.

And most importantly, when you jump on a server, team up with somebody. the mod truly shines when you work with someone and the fun factor grows exponentially.
