Looking over some posts; since when did playing multiplayer PC games become about achieving fake things?

Er,... isnt that the whole point of gaming? Since "space" hasnt actually invaded yet, ive never seen a yellow ball eating man being persued by ghosts run past my house, loads of demons from hell/space arent running amoke, thre are no fat italian plumbers eaing green mushrooms in my green drain pipes and 12 year old's cant join the US Marines, id pretty much say they been about achiving fake things since the beginning really.

personally i couldn't give a crap about the ranking, would make people play mods more. but it would still probably piss some people off, because if they just got the game for christmas or something, and they expect the ranking system to still be there as advertised. The game is only about a year and a half old, and it would seem extremely stupid to drop support that early.

i dunno why u are all fretting. The ranking system isnt going. IF EA are planning anything , its probably just a final patch with little or nothing to add to the game.

I'd actually be more than happy to see the ranking system go... however I don't see this being the big suprise. There WILL be a patch I know that for sure... but I'm not sure what will make some happy and some not. He could just be talking ******** to get attention because he doesn't get any around his life. A thing that upsets me is when they keep things secret. That's just like saying someone knows the meaning of life but he won't tell anyone what it is because... why?

Quake on outdoors w/ plasma guns :laugh: Good thing they delayed the game so they can add more BF2 like features, and improve the Quake 4 engine a bit so they can have more than 6 vs 6 players in the mulitplayer.

Are you kidding? It was one of the biggest selling feature of the game! Of course it swayed people's descision to buy the game, who wouldnt want mini-awards and goals to work towards and have some rewards after all the hours of online gaming. So of course it begs the question "why buy the game if you dont like it's biggest feature?"



Then why arent unranked servers more popular?

Your talking crap there kidda the majority of BF2 players are old pros and loved the previous versions of the game and just wanted to buy the newer and better version. If you think I'm full of it think of it this way have you never just bought the next game in a series because of how great the previous version was.

I know for a fact i bought BF2 because of BF1942 & the mods were so dam good. It wouldn't of honestly mattered on what i read about BF2 as in features i would of just bought the game anyway like i did on release day. I'm not saying i wasn't aware of the Rankings and medals i was and though hmm thatll make a nice feature. But i didn't expect the ranks & medals to turn BF2 into the hellish nightmare it has become with the stats whores ruling everything. For good sakes look at infantry only mode that in no way represents the battlefield games, battlefield games have always been about the full theater of warfare not just infantry combat. And in actual fact playing on servers were people were not allowed to use vehicles was officially classed as stat padding and could lead to your account being wiped. That's how bad this game has gone the stat whores scream the loudest and EA/Dice listen to them like fools.

They will prolly do something of unrivalled brilliance..... that only EA could think would be cool.
Make it possible for x-box live and PS2 players to join your server,and really screw things up..............then they will send all PC owners of BF2 a game pad to play with in order to balance things out so they would'nt be like bots for you to shoot between dropped frames. BF2 v1.6 yay.

Then answer me this, if the majority of copies of BF2 were sold because of the popularity of the previous releases in the series, why aren't unranked servers more popular?

There is nothing stopping anyone playing this game unranked online, yet there are very few who do this reguarly. Why is that ? I had previous releases of BF and yea, i liked them a lot, but i probably wouldnt have bothered getting BF2 quite so soon after release had ther not been the new awards system to get my interest. I would have probaly stuck with the mods for the originals.

The fact of the matter is, no matter how good the previous versions were, a big selling feature was the new awards system. Any new game ina series has to have new features and its those new features that either sell or flop the game. If you just keep releasing the same game with minimal new features you find your games stop selling. Like it or not, EAs online awards system has proven popular and is something you will see more and more of over the next 5 years in more and more online games.

If you think canceling the stat system will be the lifeblood of mods, you're kidding yourself. They will just move to BF2142 to get stats and ranks on that game, instead.

I bet, they add more ranks, more weapons, more vehicles, more teams n everything.

Although this would be cool I kind of doubt it.. more weapons would be cool, but what would they add? New maps would be interesting.. dont think any more vehicles would be added and what new teams would there be? I think its just going to be another patch with a map or something.

Enough about the rank system, it didn't really destroy anything.

When DC and the really great mods from bf1942 (EOD, Pirates, FH, etc) were running the show, players were still often selfish, didnt really help there team win, and TKed for vehicles 9Until an admin actually did something about it).

Those of us that have been playing online FPS for some time are crotchety, and think that newer players are really different.

The ratio of those who kick ***, to those who suck has remained constant IMO. Now we can blame stats though (We used to as well, just not as much since there was no ranks or unlocks).

The stats are here to stay, and it won't mean much in the long run.

I only played a few servers in DCF, because I knew the people who played on them (Virtually). Now I play a server because its packed with noobs, and I DONT know anybody. Its a wierd formula switch, but after all, I am pretty crotchety myself.

Nothing like a few words that don't mean squat to get the community up and running like hell!!!!!! Just be patient gentlemen, it will all come out in the wash. I've said this before.............name one game that all these cry babies are going to leave bf2 for?, and get the same feeling you get from the BF series? Please just name even one? Quake wars? Those are the same folks playing 2142, which by the way is great IMHO. Bring the mods on and you will see the players come.
We are all crotchety. It's easy to say that we all used to play 1942 and mods for ever, and this is only a year and a half in, but we had never experienced anything like 1942 or the mods it brought us, before.
Now we're all bored and need more more more so we get cranky like kids who are bored with their old toys.
In short, we are all SPOILED!!!

Oh ya and their is 10x the teamwork on even a pub server in BF2 than their ever was in 1942 or Vietnam.

Personally I don't really care about the ranking system. In fact it'll be kinda nice since I'll finally be able to get that medic G36 without having to wait another year for my next promotion.

I *will* say though, that if they roll out another patch and STILL don't do anything about that piece of sh*t F-35B then I'm going to lose my mind...

I haven't bought BF2142 mainly because of the utter lack of respect for their customers that Dice/EA has shown by leaving such a HUGE balance issue in the game simply because they're too moneygrubbing to fix it. It's a real shame too, because I played 2142 during beta and it was a lot of fun. But there's no way I'm buying another Dice/EA product again in my life if they don't have the decency to get their house in order and fix this issue.
