EA Acquires Digital Illusions

As of today, EA has now acquired Digital Illusions, aka DICE, to their company. Here's the press release regarding the deal:

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Electronic Arts (NASDAQ:ERTS - News) today announced the acquisition of Digital Illusions CE (DICE), acclaimed development team and creators of the Battlefield game franchise. Located in Stockholm, Sweden, DICE becomes a fully integrated EA studio dedicated to growing the Battlefield franchise and developing new products for the PC, next generation consoles and other new platforms. The acquisition is effective immediately.

"The DICE studio has strong opportunity for growth as we build the Battlefield franchise and other new products. You know, I half enjoy reading articles like these, and half despise reading them.

I'm glad DICE is moving up, but I hope the team behind DICE will continue to thrive into creating a better game. I hope nothing but the best, yet deep inside I know it's the end of the series, for me.

I never thought I'd see the end of the world....

...no...but seriously, this may actually prove to be a great move on both sides of the aisle. EA is not the one that made BF2 glithy, it was DICE. Maybe with closer ties to each other, EA wont have to rush DICE's development team to produce a great game, and maybe DICE can actually create a great game without the problems. Lets not look at this as if Microsoft just took over Apple computers....
