7900GTX or x1900xt

Hui guys,

I'm going to buy a new computer and I would like to know which video card would you buy an why? The choice is limited to those two:

- 7900GTX
- x1900xt

To me they both have - and +, but I would like to know what you guys think.

I dispise ATI, all my ATI cards got broked on me. So.. I say NVidia FTW. I've got that cheap eVGA NVidia 7800 GT @ 470.. Runs smooth.. Probably gonna try to get that new 7900 GTX or something like that, its OC'd @ 580 or something.. Will get a big boost in fps, but that won't come till christmas..

nvidia all the way for me.

My 7800GTx must be the best card ive ever bought for my money.

All my comps ive had with ATI cards always dissapoint me, they make you feel they just want your money!

the 7900gtx is good for raw speed but it doesnt have all the features that the ATI card does

i would go with the x1900xt because i your going to spend that much on a card your gonna want to be able to crank aa+af up the ATI cards are better at that than the nvidia cards

and according to ati x1k users the ATI card has a overall better image quality things look brighter and shinier

one warning tho the x1900xt fan is load you might want to invest on a 3rd party cooler like such as arctic cooling or zalman coolers

I would go with ATI since you're spending that much. The ATI has voltage control and better AA. The 7900s have shimmering problems. You'll want to upgrade to a 3rd party cooler like Death Merchant said to take advantage of the card.

the x1900xtx.

-better image quality
-close to the same FPS performance in all games
- can render AA and HDR at the same time without losing much performance (nvidia cards cant render HDR and AA at the same time)

I'd go with the x1900xtx... better price/performance. Well performance is really close, but the ATI card has some image quality features that the 7900gtx doesn't (FP16 HDR lighting+antialiasing simultaneously and HQ anisotropic filtering). Unfortunately the fan is fairly loud, but you can buy an aftermarket cooler and still have it cost less than a 7900gtx.

The x1900Xt is the best high end card for price/performance right now.

Offers superior IQ, and the ability of running HDR+AA. Also its faster than the 7900 series.

The only downside is that it runs hotter, and therefore has a bigger and noiser fan.

I would only get the 7900GTX if you want to run SLI (which i personally think is a waste of your time).


Cards i would go with....

$200- 7600GT
$300-7900GT or X1800XT
$400-X1900XT
>$500 your insane to spend this much money :P

I would buy the x1900xt, but the fan noise is a big down for me. I don't like a noisy computer and the x1900xt is very well known for is noisy fan.

Do you have a quiet cooling fan to recommend?

Anyone has a x1900xt? Did you change the fan?

The Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer series are the best VGA cooling for silence.

well if you wait another week or two HIS is releasing a X1900 with ICEQ3 cooler which cools better and quieter than the normal stock one.

I have never had an ATI card, so let me ask, how good are their drivers, any incompatibility issues?

I asked because I have recently read here that few people had problems running BF2 with ATI cards??? Was it a real probelm or just an isolated one?

How silent is it?

There have been issues with both the nvidia, and ati drivers and BF2 at some point in the games release. Mostly has been because of the multiple different cases of people tying to use unsupported cards (espically the nvidia) but also just the sheer number of different hardware and software configurations people use.

As to the origional question the 1900 platform is a much better GPU i would go with that, i am also biased toward ati, although i have had both nividia and ati, both with problems and both with good aspects. Overall i prefer the ati's as of late, not to say i wouldnt ever get a nivida product again, but it would have to better ati, which nividia really has not been able to do recently.

if you wanted a 512MB Graphics caard just get a Dual Core Nvidia GeForce 6600

from wat i heard it runs just as well as the new 7900GTX but i would still go for in your case the 7900GTX and for people getting a new comp in the next few months go for the 7900GTX aswell!

I just want to know if all problems between BF2 and ATI cards are resolved. I'm planning to buy an x1900xt and would like to know if it will run VERY WEELL with BF2.

Any ATI owner advice will be appreciated :|:
