Actually, I think the logic is that the armored cars are such pathetically large targets that making rockets a OHK to them would effectively make them death traps. Really, if you've got the big, slow vodnik and the small, fast FAV, which one are you going to take if there they both get killed with one AT rocket?

how can this thing be effective when it takes sometimes 3 shots to destroy a tank?
it takes 1-4 shots, but two in the tracks. the key to at is utilizing your terrian, you have a huge mobility advantage and cover advantage when it comes to urban situations. when working with multipule at guys a tank isnt much of a problem. when working alone, you arent really trying to destroy as much as make the tanker standoff or afraid to enter an area. the tank when used properly can desimate infantry troops, vs a good tanker the at missile is the only option.

How can it be effective when the time it takes me to reload is enough time for a crate to fully repair what dmg I did?
shoot the crate with an at rocket.

How can it work if hiding after I shoot it doesnt work when APC shells can turn corners and have a dmg radius of about 20 feet it seems? Is it shoot crate, eat tank/apc shells respawn and try again?
nope its shoot rocket, relocate an shoot another.

Seriously the AT rocket is a pea shooter compared to the area of effect of tank/apc rounds making hiding useless
you arent supposed to attack a tank head on anyways, you are supposed to take pot shots at um.

it takes 2 people to take out a tank do to crates and utter weakness of rockets.
      2 average, one elite

I cant even get cover that will allow me to fire a second missle 90% of the time
as an infatryman thats utilizing his terrain, time is on your side.

I usually creep out fire a quick shot and scramble back to my alley with APC/Tank shells pounding the area I was just at as I take dmg and die.
seems about right to me, run faster, rest before engaging.

its the only effective way of dmging a tank enough to run or die.
a good tanker retreats very early in a fight with at guys, the goal of the tanker is to keep the enemy occupied while they take um out, just like jets and helis. just tonight i had like 4 enemy at guys that kept ambushing me. i died a good amount of times, and got them even more times, point is, if there was no at guy i could run rampid and slaughter. at is a vital part of any fighting unit.

Trust me I drive a tank occasionally, and AT guys make me giggle more then anything since the AoE of my rounds kills them most times after they shoot.
      just bad at guys.

The only time a team is a match for a tank is when theres mutiple AT guys firing at the same time
or one that knows what they are doing

All in all AT shells need a beef up
nope, there needs to be more depth instead, disabling tracks for the win.

no reason a tank can sit and fight with a crate next to it with no worry.
lets see, jets, helis, c4, mines. if you focus on a target area and dont have awareness of your surroundings, you can be killed quite easily, regardless of what you are in.

but to just sit there and have shells pinging off you while the magic box fixes you right back up is hilarious.
this is a game, and that applies to everyone.

Come on we have all seen the tank sitting there beating are asses as shells hit it 3,4,5,6 times as he racks up kills for shooting the AT guy doing it.
smarter at guy = dead tank

I shouldnt have to coordinate with complete strangers in a pick up game and be a class I usually dont play just so I can stop one guy for 60 seconds
go play a non-team oriented game like cs then.

90% of my team wont work together since 80% are medics revivng people in front of him and the other 20% are snipers spamming claymores.
and how would beefing the at make people any smarter? good tankers would still slaughter bad at guys.

Before..Spec Ops was tank killers do to the ability to toss C4
they still can, its called stealth

Hardly anyone tries to C4 tanks now or even play SPec Ops since C4 tossing was nerfed
you are kidding right? ps ever hear of a car bomb?

hardly anyone plays Engi since shottys mean no range
lol, should i even respond to this? eng is for armor man.

alot play AT..yet not enough to take out a tank usually before he kills 10-20 people..

10-20 ppl that arent smart enough to live.

Er... I had a point here.
OH yeah! About a third of the way through the clip is an absolutely beautiful AT tank kill pulled off by CaptinPuffy after I'd dropped him off on top of the tent-like structure where that tank spawns. Watchin the BR file taught me a few things about using AT... and since that's the topic, it might be worth a looksee.
          Here tis: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7wKLtpJxp4

I warned you about the quality.
I watch the video and saw the AT kill the tank on operation clean sweep 64 player at the back air base. And what i saw is one of the main problems with AT kit the second missle went through the tank or it appeared that way to me. AT missle going through targets, not actually firing but it looks like they have, the reload bug are what lets the AT kit down in a big way.

Yup, you're right... the second shot went clean through that tank without reging a hit.

Still, the point I was making by posting that vid was that Puffy was able to kill that tank one-on-one because he used his position to it's best effect. I especially like how he mannaged to fire, then hit the dirt and still guided his shot in.

His placement on that roof wasn't an accedent either. There was a hella lot of good teamwork going on in that round. Too bad I didn't manage to do the final renders for it before rushing into the next patch.

Trying to figure the same thing out myself. Haven't really played AT until the last couple of days. I know there are skilled AT peeps that say you can take a tank out with a couple of hits. Sorry, not me. I played several rounds that I got 3 or 4 hits on a tanks with no result. So I guess I'm hitting the tanks in the wrong place (yep, seen the ideal hit points online, but in practice....lol). My question would be, since obviously I'm a very bad aim (yes, my shots hit, but don't kill), how many rockets does it take, when your not aiming perfectly....5? 6? I did finally take a tank out late in a round last nite, I'm assuming this particular tank was on it's last breath and I just got lucky. The average I'm reading about seems to be around 3 hits, but I'm not seeing that in the field. At this point I would probably roll with a AT squad (several AT's), but alone or in a squad with other classes, it is a joke (for me anyway).

Truth be told if the tank has a Supply Crate, or another Tank. It could take more A-T rockets than a single soilder can carry.

                    Re: explain AT too me.

I find the best and most productive way to use AT, and this doesn't solve your problem, is to have a minimum of two guys continuously hitting the "tracks" on the tank. I've been killed countless times like this, and when your team plays well together, have one guy with ammo, one medic, and two AT (if you're an infantry squad)

Also, if you see two enemy vehicles: 1 tank and 1 APC side by side, you can almost be certain they are engineers repairing each other, so focus on the APc before the tank and go on from there.

                    PEACE

yep, aware of those situations, but the examples I stated, there was no supply crate or other tank in proximity for the repair, just me & my ineffective rocket-launcher. btw, did see several of my rockets pass right thru tanks, but wasn't using that lame bug as my excuse for being a lousy AT.

I feel you. I've been AT alot lately and I shoot-hide-shoot-hide, one map I was hitting a tank with a crate and had AT help, but he just hiding or something, because I hit him every time and nothing.

As an AT kit, you should find those tanks and APC, besides that, they are useless unless in close combat.

Look me up, I'll probally be AT or a sniper, but if there is another AT kit in our squad, I will always choose AT.

I've killed several buggys, humvees, transport helo and attack helos also and also single soldiers.

My best shot was in Fushe Pass on the bridge camp and hit a sniper at the base down below on the top of the stairs. That was awesome. A long but right on shot.

Tanks, IMHO, should be a 3 man affair. Driver, main gunner, secondary (top) gunner.

Such a powerful asset should require teamwork to field.

If this model was in place, you'd see a hella lot less tankwhores lonewolfing it up... 'cause they couldn't.
that is actually a really good suggestion. it takes 2 people to man a attack heli properly why not a tank. I mean if you go lonewolf on the tank it should disable the main cannon and only give the secondary gun unless there are two peopl in the tank. that way when a AT gets a tank kill more than likely he will get credit for 2 kills.

I've always been of the opinion that a vehicle should not be able to repair (by crate or by engie) if it's currently taking damage. There should be delay of 4 - 5s after you take damage before the ability to repair kicks in. What this means is you would have to disengage from combat to repair, and a valid anti-armor tactic would be to keep them in combat so they couldn't repair.

And the worse part is even if the tank does get destroyed after you die..you never get an assist, and to top it off after that tank is dead and you think you can go back to your favorite kit..BAM! tanks back do to the fact **** spawns 30 sec after its destroyed.

All in all AT shells need a beef up, no reason a tank can sit and fight with a crate next to it with no worry. Yes a crate for dipping off and repairing or pulling up next to and repairing after a fight..but to just sit there and have shells pinging off you while the magic box fixes you right back up is hilarious.
Come on we have all seen the tank sitting there beating are asses as shells hit it 3,4,5,6 times as he racks up kills for shooting the AT guy doing it.

I shouldnt have to coordinate with complete strangers in a pick up game and be a class I usually dont play just so I can stop one guy for 60 seconds..cause yes..he'll be back in 60 sec with a new tank after we destroy him, and yes 90% of my team wont work together since 80% are medics revivng people in front of him and the other 20% are snipers spamming claymores.

Before..Spec Ops was tank killers do to the ability to toss C4, now no one is a tank killers. Hardly anyone tries to C4 tanks now or even play SPec Ops since C4 tossing (for the good reasons!) was nerfed, hardly anyone plays Engi since shottys mean no range, alot play AT..yet not enough to take out a tank usually before he kills 10-20 people..
Hit the back of the tank or on it's treads to get the most damage.
