Re: $$100$$ to fix my bf2 stutter

With how much you have changed the hardware around, I would suggest doing a complete reformat+windows reinstall.
And try doing it non-RAID this time around. RAID only gave me corrupted data due to timing errors and almost no improvement in performance.

yeah...unfortuneately...its looking more like a software issue now...as the only thing left to change out is the processor......

        step by step I guess....

Might want to save your $100 for a new game. EA will only add more problems with their next patches :)

I totally agree, every time there is a new patch, I have a new problem to deal with. And believe me its not the hardware I know. See my rig? Still, problems pile on. Im having the same exact problem as stated in the topic.

Sounds like the PCI bus is saturated, I'll bet the pagefile is the culpret...

Try running non-raid and having your pagefile on a completely seperate drive to the OS and BF2 folders, also make sure that the drives are connected to different channels on the SATA controller eg. channels 1 & 3 or 2 & 4. If that fixes your problem then donate a hundred to a childrens' charity for me.

Try new Direct X and reinstall video card drivers.
                  Update Pb.

You may have already, but perhaps the problem is in the motherboard?

Perhaps if you RMA the mobo, reinstall windows etc the problem may be gone?

Because there are lots of things that could go wrong with the mobo.

You update after you install, thats what I do.

I think it's a software problem, your rig shoulfn't be causing problem.
Perhaps post a Hijack this log ?

When you say you replaced your motherboard, was the mobo you replaced it with a different model?, because if so, the general consensus is that you should format your HDD and reinstall Windows, you said you've run out of instances that you can reinstall and validate XP, but can you not even validate it over the phone? (as opposed to the net) or just reinstall it (but not validate it) purely to see if reinstalling XP fixes the problem so you can then buy a new copy.

Have you tried this in single player? does the problems still happen?

Also have you had your ISP test your line quality out? Also modems go bad it happened to me.
Tried any tracerts to bf2 servers?
Also see if QoS packet scheduler is checked in your local connection properties. If it is uncheck it.
Also someone mentioned about PB have you manually updated Punkbuster?

I had similar probs and it was that QoS in my net properties giving me grief.

Man i hate that you have done all this stuff and having these problems. Has this happened since you have been playing or did it happen with a certain patch?

He has said that he has problems with singleplayer as well.

So I'm assuming you did do a reinstall? Even if you can't validate Windows, you should have a 30 day trial period or something.

I liked this idea when I read it, that it might be a page file issue except for the fact that with two gigs you have more than enough to run BF2 completely in ram. If the page file was an issue it would be intermittent. That said, don't worry about putting it on another drive, but do make sure that you set it relative to your amount of physical ram...minimum should be 50% of physical ram and max should be at least 150%.

If you have run out of activations on XP Prof, you can call Microsoft and have them reset it for you. Basically XP's activation lock kicked in when you changed too much hardware (assume you had an OEM copy of XP), and then you activated twice within two months. The activation schema is to prevent mass proliferation of a registered serial number. If you call they will reset it for you.

All in all, I would part the sucker out and start from scratch, or at least with your known good parts.
