Re: $$100$$ to fix my bf2 stutter

I have had the same problem since 1.22, never had it before.
I seemd to have fixed it on my rig.
    Asus kn8E delux
    AMD 64 3200+
    1 Gig ram
    Nvidia Ge force 6800
and some sound card that seems to work.

I use a wireless keyboard and mouse.
I have a linksys wireless router
    I use a cable ISP

I have also had connection problems that seem to be better since 1.22. I have spent a lot of time reading post like this to get advice and the bottom line is I have tried almost all of it (except buying more ram)

Here is what I have done and play is almost perfect now.
shut down all other servces (ctrl-alt-del, processes, and anything with my name other than taskmgr and explorer is gone)
    turn off norton IS
turn off windows wireless zero config ( right click my computer, manage, services and applications, services, wireless zero config and choose stop, you will not loose your wireless connection until the machine goes to sleep, the just restart it)

I play with all settings on grapics high 1280X 1024 but AL off. i did check my frame rate in game and it runs about 50 fps,
you can do that by hitting ` in game and typing (exactly) "renderer.drawfps 1"
to turn this off do the same but put a 0 instead of a 1.

Your rig way, way, way out does mine. it makes me question any advice about new hardware.
I really think the problem is some resource use issue introduced in 1.22
    hope it helps,
    :salute:

By the way Nvidia has new drivers out (march 16th)
also I was thinking, that system sure sounds like a power hog, I wonder if it is a power supply issue.
    good luck

Given everything you have done I'm going to venture that it is a network issue. Tell us about your network. Provider? Your location? Home network? If so, what is the setup.

I suspect it is a network issue because you have basically replaced every piece of hardware, you have enough ram, etc. I'm assuming that you have done a reinstall of both Windows and the game itself.

The stuttering could very well be caused by BF trying to synch up with the server and other players. It will "lock and jump" repeatedly when it has trouble doing that as it skips forward. Are you running a home router? If so, what ports do you have open?

^ that could also be it, one reason it might display 80fps while stuttering.

by any chance, do you have nvidia firewall installed?

right...either way....overclocked or not.....stuttered right from the get go...without the first patch it stuttered....

yes...I can get 120 fps...by unlocking fps...and still get the stutter.

Install mouse drivers? Use the PS2 to USB adaptor? Try different USB ports? Try a different mouse?

              I can run my network with the lynk****z wrtg54 wireless router....wireless disabled...using the ethernet port....no ports adjusted.....just windows firewall.....stutter

I can run it with "pants down" no protection whatsoever....windows xp firewall disabled.....no nvidia protection installed.....straight to cable modem.....road runner ISP.....stutter....

oh oh oh!!...i forgot to mention that it occurs on single player games too.....

What applications are your running durign gameplay ? Msn ? Maybe your stuttering is due to your INTERNET CONNECTION rather than your actual PC, what type of internet connection due to have ? Wireles router ?

ok....couple more things....after setting cluster size to 128 in the nvidia raid (f10) raid setup menu when I last re-installed I am surprised to see a defrag in XP saying my cluster size is 4kb. ???

played with RAM timings today....I purchased 4x512 sticks of pc 3200 twinx 1024 xl corsair ram...with timings supposedly of 2-2-2-5....k...great....I can set those timings....unfortunately....asus motherboard wont recognize those spd timings....it auto set ram timings to 333mhtz, 2.5, 3, 3, 6...and then blah blah blah with several more timing numbers....WTF!? so there's 4 major timing numbers to change.....what about the 6 or 8 other numbers available to change that asus MB auto sets to lame timings?...I'm running the default AUTO ram timings right now...running ddr400 memory at 333mhtz....just to see if that would fix stutter...it doesn't.....and when I set the aggressive timings of this XL memory...what about the other ram timings...they just stay the same?....could that be an issue? and whats up with this extreme low latency crap anyways?!!...2-2-2-5, you can't find anything for sale right now with those timings.....or can you? and what's more is:...any timing change doesnt make a GD bit of difference in the stuttering!

side note....I re-seated my cpu fan/heatsync a couple times already....but...upon FIRST removal and wipedown, i noticed on the corners (all 4)of my amd 3500+ processor ...about 2mm towards center of chip from the outer edges:.. "wear"....like the silver paint coating of the topside of the cpu was rubbed off because of friction with the copper base plate of the Thermaltake heat sync....silver paint rubbed off and black scratches emerging....???....uneven surfacing? waaaa! (heat on cpu has never been an issue....runs coool)

and one big huge thing BTW.....people have said in another comparable large bf2 forum...that alot of people have my same issue.....that's BS.....no one would be playing this game if my issue reigned throughout the bf2 community I suspect....in fact...I'm sure of it....if you are interested....look at my frapped/movieMakered videos on my ftp site....I'll need to give you ftp access since they dont want anything but streaming realMedia....I don't know how long this ftp site will last when I spam ftp admin access...so PM me....I'll give it to you.
so what?...my next step is replace this 2gb of ram with different stuff?...what should I buy? definitely 2x1024 sticks...but what?....I'll throw 300$ at new RAM...my plan being that this rig is cursed and will never be fixed.....best to get away from it with my sanity and a continuing affection for EA and BF2....so if I can't remedy my immediate situation....I'll move my X-Fi sound Card...this new BFG 7900gtxOC....and some other "Known good" parts to another box......

maybe better to pay someone here some good money to help resolve the situ.......the cork smokers at ABS computers say.."all their other customers are not reporting this problem".....but they still continue to RMA me system wise peace-meal.....fine...I can pay fedex and ups cross country shipping....I'm getting uncomfortably close to calling this a FIVE GRAND nightmare....and that's not including "time/labor" on my part.....JFCGDMFCSSOBFknGD!!!!

                    1. do you stutter in any other games at all?

                    2. are you running the x-fi card in gaming mode while you do this? (thats something to remember)

                    3. are all your x-fi card drivers and motherboard drivers installed?

                      Some more questions:
                      - Does it stutter in single player mode ?
                      - Does it only stutter with mouse movement? (e.g not when you strafe)
                      - Did you try a ps2 mouse?

i had it too, and then i realised that i should change the battery in my wireless mouse, so if you have a wireless mouse, try it.
                        and don't use rechargeable batteries.

i have replaced the PSU just now...and the problem still exists........I am now running barebones....no sound card....no USB..........I'm gonna RMA the processor and ram next......still stuttering l

                          anyone have any ideas?

You still haven;t said anything about your internet connection ? Does the problem persist in Single Player ?

I keep getting the problem too. But once i restarted my internet connection I think i got like 2 hours of gameplay before it started acting up again. I'm guessing its something wrong with the server patch ea gave out?
