If you kick all of the good players...how are the bad players ever going to get better?

      Re: Can/should i kick a good players ?

This is where my problem has always been with the stat system. The general premise of the system is awesome, but I think they took a turn for the worse when they decided to do things like leaderboards and things.

I think the stat system doesn't even serve that purpose anymore. Who here honestly cares about the leaderboards (aside from the 50 or so people you can see without your finger getting tired from click Next)?

What made BF1942 and BFVietnam so great is that you could, for the most part, play how you wanted to play. The game was a very personal experience that you enjoyed. The only way to make it a team experience was to join a clan -- at which point you and your clan would share the experience.

BF2, however, uses the ranking system to connect people sort of in the way you would connect people with the clan gaming. But since these people did not establish this "connection" by choice, you now see:

      - More competition between players to have the higher score.
      - More accusations of the cheating and exploiting.
      - More excuses for losing (spawn camping, whoring, stat padding, etc)
      - More childish individuals doing stupid things that they think are funny (calling people 'fags' all round, trying to annoy players and get in their way, throwing flashbangs around, dropping artillery on their teammates).
      - The list goes on.

I really wish the stat system would only track individual statistics and allow you to filter statistics by server. In other words, when you query getplayerstats.aspx?server=127.0.0.1 you would get all of the stats for that player filtered by server.

      But I digress.

To answer your question, no, there is no way to solve it. The only true way to get rid of the issue is to make your server unranked (in which case your amount of players will drop significantly or your server will empty out completely). Otherwise, if you break ROE, there are plenty of vigilante players out there willing to cry wolf at a moments notice so you won't last long.

The basis of your dilemma is sort of silly though. Good players will dominate the game... it's what they do. If you can't handle it, play single player :)

This is typical of the admin abuse I have experienced. Boo!

You want to kick a player for playing too well?! If it weren't a ranked server, I wouldn't have a problem with it. But c'mon. The game is balanced enough that if you work as a team you can overcome opposition.

I have flirted with the idea of setting up a domain named bf2abuse as a venue to vent/document/mitigate admin abuse.

I play very good but I get banned for somthing else...MY PING IS TOO HIGH 200+...

the admin of the server once sent me a msg telling me the follwing:

( dear MoeZ28 as I can see your playing very well and getting real good high scores but forgive me your ping is too high and I dont think u will be able to join us anymore due to the next ping setup no hard feelings brother )

I was happy honestly for the way he said it.

              Re: Can/should i kick a good players ?

              Good question –nice thread.

We look at our server as a ”business” of sorts. We all (admins and clans alike) want a full server of everyone killing and having a good time and players coming back to return and play.

But – when you do get those really good players – killing…and killing…and killing over and over and over again….You can quickly see the player count drop off.

Our clan evens out the teams – so we are both sides. We ask them (major killers) to focus on another part of the map….some guys tell us “go blow”…others (the really good ones) understand and will do with out hesitation.

The “go blowers” – who don’t comply – they are quickly looking for another server. Seems harsh – but…the needs and wants of the majority, out weigh the few. We don’t ban them – just a brief “time out”….

This is not a reoccurring problem in our server – nor do I think a huge problem in any other – but it does happen from time-to-time.

I think…it has to do on how you treat them.

              Just tossing my 2 cents in…for what it’s worth…

Timeout for what? For playing well? For not playing how you want them to? Sheesh...

This also works for groups where a bunch of friends can play together by forming a party, this way groups of equal ranks and skills are put together in game.

The gaps are then filled in by the lonewolfs with similar ranks / skill level.

There should be an option for this type of public play in BF2 like the auto join, i.e. auto join a server of equal ranks .

                  Yeah thats a good idea.

But i think it would be pretty easy for the auto balance to be adapted to take into account rank, then it could divide the teams equally and fairly according to rank.

Its already used to a degree with the commander position going to the highest rank, so it must be possible, and it would be godsend.

Yea, I mean for every outstanding player on USMC, you'll find a match on the PLA or MEC, and if they are all on the USMC then "switch to MEC on next death"

                      Re: Can/should i kick a good players ?

I tend to stick to official servers, been kicked a lot, it's matter of time before a vote starts.

My attitude is you paid for it, it's your server.

The other day I was kicked from one server for stat padding, in a plane as US on Kubra Dam, I only went near their base when one of our guys had a shot at capping it?

Then later on in Wake a vote kick was started because 'no one else could get any points'. The next round I swapped teams to US capped the Airfield in about two minutes bombed a tank incoming to take it back, killed two teamates next to it and was kicked for tk'ing. I think I was 24-3 at the time, as US! The round that I was Chinese they never even got a flag, no pleasing some people.

                          Re: Can/should i kick a good players ?

Hey skunk, it is very frustrating to have 32 people on each side and before you even get to where you wanted to go, it seems the round ends. I've read each of the posts in this thread and I would agree with the majority. Depending on the individual player, the amount of time they have played, and their skill level; it is just about impossible to please every one. It really is not fair to kick or ban anyone just because they are on top. What if that particular player is having a great day but isn't good otherwise?
I think the trick to running a great/successful/fun server is:

Fairness - Remove team killers, stat padders, cheaters
Rules - Too many, people are uncomfortable, too little people get away with anything.
Enourage Teamwork - Make a scrolling message that asks people to squad up.
Discourage Cussing - An uber-potty mouth can clear out a server quick.

Honorable as it may be you wanting to enforce every instance of the ROE, but relax, its just a game. It takes time to get recognized as a solid server. Be patient and things will get better.

I honestly really hate it when I get kicked for that reason (its not as uncommon as I wish it were). Ive been kicked about 5 times just this week for that very reason. I hate to say it but try to look at it from my perspective as well. Im just there to have fun and game. Im not trying to cause grief, Im not trying to ruin anyones day. Im trying to play, enjoy myself, and improve (I love a personal challenge =D) and its so frustrating when I cant complete round after round because I keep getting kicked. Ive been kicked 3 times in one day before for this. I dont even use tanks or anything, I just looooove infantry interaction to much. I can sympothise with your dilema but Ill be honest when Ive considered picking up a new game because Im just loosing the enjoyment I had for this game because of this very reason =/ Honestly, I dont think thats right =\

Ive been trying to find an adequate clan thats competative but I cannot find a single CAL M clan. Ive actually started "favoriting" the servers that do this to me so that I wont accidently join it again and get kicked mid game =/

Personally Im not a fan of the 64 player servers anyway, the rounds are to fast and its to chaotic for my tastes. Your best bet (as said thus far) is to drop the total number of players on the map to the minimum possible to hold that ticket count or do what I really love to stumble upon and have the server set up as a 64 size with only 24-32 players on it

If people didnt care about the stats/leader board, we could raise the ticket limit up and that would make alot of people happy. Have you made a comment on BF2RS about it yet?
I would be interested in taking it further over there. Cause 15-30 min rounds kind of stink. If we could have at least 400 for 64 player servers that would be great. Only downfall is that the high points servers would abuse this. Again falls back on the ranking/leaderboad system being in control.
