Excellent point! They have you install the card before installing your drivers, so everything you need should already be in place, just not the proper one for YOUR card. That's where the install comes in. If it was your AGP driver, you would have had problems before this.

Re: Installed new 7800 AGP Video Card - Need AGP Driver Help

Guys thanks for your help here. I've given up doing it myself as clearly I lack the basic competence in getting this done. My computer is down at the PC Doctor shop and they're working on it now. Cost me $100 so far for the diag, but what can you do. I called EVGA tech support and based on the symptons they said it could be ether, the memory on the video card is bad (ie a defective video card) or my power supply isn't strong enough.

        SO!

Can you guys post here good and BEEFY 600W + Power supplies that have sufficent Volts, Amps, whatever you recommend to run the 7800 video card? You've all been a tremendous help and trust me I did the upgrade by the book. 1) Updated all Nforce3 Drivers, removed old video drivers, installed card, flashed the bios, etc, etc.

If you have links to the PSU's you'd recommend post them! :)

Thanks again everyone, you've been very helpful and I've realized today, unlike most of you hear, I'm basically a mechanical idiot when it comes to upgrading my computer and will just leave it to the pros from now on. I can build one from scatch on paper, configuring all the correct components but when it comes to physically install them I usually screw it up. I used to be the Computer Department Manager at Fry's Electronics in Palo Alto, for 4 years, managed 64 people and did $800K in revenue weekly, so I DO know computer hardware at least conceptually. But I never actually did computer upgrades myself. Ahh well, I guess it's good to know what you suck at, so you don't repeat the same mistakes. :)

        PSU suggestions please!!

Alex I wish I would have seen this thread before you went to PC Doctor's because it IS more than likely your card that is the problem. I say this because I bought a eVGA 7800 GS OC Superclocked and had the EXACT same problem you have. I went through all the steps others have decribed here to try to resolve the issue and in the end it WAS a bad 7800. I'm not the only one either, check this thread on eVGA's boards for more info - http://www.evga.com/community/messag...TOPIC_ID=11725

My recommendation when you get your rig back is to RMA with eVGA (they'll cross ship with no charges as well) and upgrade your PSU to something with nice rail #s (not just watts mind you). I'd recommend a Antec myself, just personal preference. My 7800 runs wonderfully on a TrueBlue 480w with 28a +12v rail.

          Antec NeoPower 550
          +3.3V@24A, +5V@20A, +12V1@18A, +12V2@18A, +12V3@18A, -12V@0.8A, +5VSB@2.5A
We’re sorry, but this page does not existing. Please visit our home page for more information.

I'm not bad mouthing the members here at all, but when it comes to specific components it's usually better to go to the manufacturer's forums/boards for help. Again, I'm not saying the suggestions in this thread were not helpful, but there are 7800 AGP cards out there from eVGA, BFG, etc that are bad/faulty and visiting their respective manu's forums will show this.

Anyways, hope you get it resolved and happy gaming.

I finally got around to this sorry it took so long. XTreme-G 84.12V2 works well for me.

Thanks Chet for posting that power suppy. I'll know by Monday if the card is bad, but in the meantime I've ordered the power supply you recommended. I'll let you know if the video card is defective, again should know by Monday.

And thanks everyone for their help and suggestions here, really been a big help.
