Installed new 7800 AGP Video Card - Need AGP Driver Help

Guys could one of you help me here? I just upgraded my AGP (not PCI-E) video card from 6800 to 7800. I upated all my drivers including my mainboard. However after playing BF2 my video totally locks up and the screen goes haywire and my computer makes a loud continuous beeping tone.

Checking EVGA's manual the manufacturer of the card, they say these symptons my be because I need to update my 'AGP Miniport drivers.'

Anyone know where I can find these? I've downloaded everyone I know how and it still locks up.

I have an MSI K8N Neo2 Nforce 3 Mobo, running AMD. Could these AGP drivers be on AMD's site?

I've been up since 5 AM working on this it's now 8 AM and am not sure what else to do other than just return the video card and go back to my 6800. The 7800 card works for normal things but after about a minute or two of gaming it goes crazy. I haven't overclocked anything.

Thanks for the link, but all of the version on that page either don't work or are two old. they're marked 2001, 2002 and when I try to run them one says, 'unable to find AMD components on you Computer, (ummm I have an AMD process lol) and the other says a previous version exists for my AMD driver and I must uninstall it? Really not sure I want to install drivers that are 4 years old, when this CPU and Mobo were installed in 2005.

Unless I'm missing something here?

Well screw it, I installed the AMD AGP Miniport driver even though it's marked 2001 and am going to try BF2 now.

nvidia.com download the nforce drivers for Nforce3. The AGP drivers are for your chipset, and nvidia makes your chipset.

Damn no go. Let's me play Bf2 for about 2 minutes, that my computer starts making a loud continuous beeing sound then the whole computer goes screwy.

The only thing I can think of is maybe my powersupply is not up to date? I have a 400 Watt, but this card needs a minimum of 350 watts?

I will also try putting back in my 6800 card to see if that will run it.

If anyone has any other ideas I really need some help here. I suppose it could be a defective card as well...?

Those links are for 5 year old AMD chipsets for obsolete socket A motherboards and only apply to AMD's own chipsets, not the nforce3 he has.

That's what I thought, any idea where I can get updated AGP Minimap drivers for my Nforce3 board? I already downloaded everything MSI had to offer, but I'm guessing I still need specfic AGP drivers?

Also what are the amps on the 12, 5 and 3.3V rails for your power supply? And while you're at it what are the reported voltages for the same three (using MBM, Speedfan, Everest, etc.)?

edit2: Another thing if you haven't done so is to delete everything you find here,

C:\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache

not the cache folder, but everything in it.

It is highly doubtful that the card is defective. I would not run under that asumption until you have tested everything. At this point you should just reformat and make sure to install the nforce3 drivers immediately then follow that with DX9.0c and the forceware video drivers.

OK thanks guys. I'm not technical enough to check voltage on my power supply and there's no way I'm going to reformat my hard drive wiping out everything just to get this silly card running.

I've got a pretty current gaming rig, CPU, Mobo, etc, so if this card won't work on my computer, it's defective me me anyway.

Not sure what else to do? I also posted on the EVGA forum (the manufacture site as well.)

I could take my PC to the PC Doctors around the corner. They did the install upgrade for my PC and did a fantastic job.

try a system restore to before you started messing with the new drivers.

From there install the newest nforce3 drivers, and uninstall the forceware drivers. Then put in your new card, and reinstall the newest forceware drivers.

Definately upgrade your power supply to 500 watts. If that doesn't work, then it's the card. But you'll need a 500 watt ps to run a 7800 card.

1 ) I tweaked the nVidia profiles in "Performance and Quality Settings" for all my games. Most of them I increased - trial and error

2 ) I allocated more ram to the AGP slot in my computer BIOS. My default was set at 32mb. Increased to 128mb. (max on my bios)

My problems were solved - for now!!!
