Re: That Magical Roll: The New Age Dolphin Dive?

I think people didn't grasp the general point of this thread.

A lot of the " OMG! You people with ideas are ruining BF2! Go away n00bs!" crowd became defensive for no reason.

All Variable asked was if the "Rolling, yet, not rolling because you're prone thus accurate while rolling yet not truely rolling while spraying" animation affected hit detection/gameplay. It does, it always has, and it should have been fixed with the first darn patch.

...as for how? I'm more for the delay that's applied to both running and jumping. Just throw that animation into the fray. Also, make the animation equal to the draw-time of the players weapon (Mp5 Fastest, M24/PKM Slowest). Simple; well... in a sense. Might not be so simple to implement, the concept is simple though. :P

I would hate it if they added a delay to prone accuracy. I mean it is annoying when they do the roll but I dont have any problems killing them. I just aim low and slightly in the direction of their roll. Dont forget many people do the prone roll by accident. They just happen to be strafing and then hit prone. I've only run into about a dozen players that were using it for an entire round.

I mean this doesnt affect the game like bunnyhopping did because you can still hit them just as easy as if they just went prone.

I'm just afraid they are gonna keep trying to fix things and make the game feel clunky. Like the stand up delay they added when you go prone. I understand they had to do it to stop the dolphin divers but it makes the movement in the game feel off and less exciting. For instance I'm being chased and I jump over a sandbag wall for cover and then try to stand up to return fire. This used to be an adrenaline pumping, immersive experience. Now instead of having a nice fluid motion I end up with a someone shoving me back to the ground and then I stand up. It feels really off and ruins the flow.

Some of these changes that people lobby for are removing skill based moves. It takes skill to go prone acquire your target and shoot them before they can shoot you. If you dumb the game down too much where people cant practice skill based moves that allow them to differentiate their skills from newer players whats the point of playing. The satisfaction of improvement is gone.

I guess the humour was missed on my comment of it becoming a side scroll shooter. In that I was making a joke that when people get ****ed about others doing things in the game they don't like, Dice removes it, then people find a new way to do things, people get mad, Dice removes it.... and the cycle keeps repeating itself... then one day... all that will be left of this game is a side scroller because anything that could possibly be seen as being abused in the game is removed.

It was a bit of a joke with a personal statement that I don't really have an issue with it. Pardon me for having a dry sense of humour.

i think the best solution that we as individuals can apply, would be to adapt...

the best solution for the developer team would be to change the roll animation, and/or adjust the hit box accordingly, so that it remains consistant with the animation....if that is too much work, then they should introduce the delay to prevent excessive prone-crouch use, just as they did jump-prone...

the ppl calling the ppl who speak regarding this issue "noobs" and "whiners", are obviously the ppl who like to roll all over the map....and i think that is noob, and they will be sure to whine when/if this animation exploit is addressed in any future patch...

I do find it disorientating to have a perfect bead on a blokes head only to miss him completely and be sprayed with a PKM when his muzzle is basically facing backwards. However, its something im getting used to and now i've found the best way to counter it, especially if you're close to him, is jump forwards into him as soon as you see it begin. hopefully you're able to land behind or on him and crunch him easily from there.

A little side note to it as well, has anyone noticed the muzzle animation issue with the SF intro movie?? When the seal lands on the balcony and shoots the guard, his muzzle is pointing at the wall on the left!
