That Magical Roll: The New Age Dolphin Dive?

It seems like the sideways prone-roll has become the new dolphin dive. Now I see people spamming strafe-prone-crouch-strafe-prone to induce the magical side-roll and maintain prone accuracy, all while being very hard to hit.

I've been shooting a standing or running target, getting hits, and then had him do the roll and have my bullets seemingly pass right through him.

Can we confirm what the roll actually gets you? Does it just make the roller harder to hit visually, does it jack up the hitboxes like bunny hopping, or does it actually afford some kind of temporary invulnerability?

Any personal experiences or thoughts are appreciated.

It's is just an animation, it's has existed since the game came out. It has no bearing on gameplay at all. There are about 15 threads on this already.

Just play support and hold down the mouse button when you see one of these jerks :)

I've said this before elsewhere on these forums, but this issue is my biggest gripe with BF2.

On YOUR screen you see someone rolling to the side while firing their weapon. You think you are safe because you see their weapon is pointing away from you, often at 90 Degrees away from you. But they still kill you while rolling and shooting, with their weapon pointing nowhere near you.

On THEIR screen, nothing happens when they initiate the move - they just go from standing to prone very quickly, with no loss of accuracy, in fact an increase in accuracy because they are now prone, and nail the sitting duck in front of them.

A DICE member suggested that a future patch might introduce a delay between going prone and the accuracy increase. Maybe that will cut down on prone/roll spamming.

Its very clear when a PKM player can drop you instantly from a metre away just by going prone, so that would be a good idea

YESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!! Finally! Someone payed attention! You nailed it!!!!

I have a gripe with this too. I see that gun point to who knows where but then I see a flash and boom I'm down. And the accuracy does go up WHILE he is rolling. UGH! Some with dolphin diving. Accuracy way up while in air.

If EA will delay accuracy increase after proning/rolling, then that could help a lot.

Not even that, but remove the ability to shoot while going from standing to prone - problem solved.

lol most annoying when someone does the roll while your trying to get a headshot, their screen should roll around too :p
                    rather that than nerf everything....

Prone spamming and dolphin diving are still possible since you can get up from prone with crouch instead of pressing prone again

How about they make us SEE the actualy roll, instead of just the character rolling? Like everything upside down and stuff...that will stop most

It's disorientating though. I doubt people would like it. I don't know of many FPS games that implement complex moves like this in the first person camera. Even FEAR doesn't make your camera do crazy stuff when you throw kicks.

That's exactly what it does. See, if you're looking at someone doing the action-hero roll, it looks as though they are about as big as a crouched soldier, when in reality their hitbox is that of a prone soldier (since, technically, they are prone as is accurately reflected on their end). Basically, instead of aiming for the middle of the 'mass' (i.e. their body), aim for the bottom of the roll and you should hit them. Just think of them as a prone soldier and shoot them accordingly.
