Yeah, adding mobile AA to certain maps would be really good. Particularly Gulf of Oman or Dalian which are currently horrendous maps for jet ownage and baserapage. With Wake the problem is the US don't start with a base so adding mobile AA for them is more tricky and only possible if it were to spawn upon capturing one of the Chinese bases...

If the pilots on both sides aren't keeping each other occupied then sitting in the static AA on maps like Gulf or Wake is the only option we've got. Since manning a static AA site lights you up to jets themselves, you're nothing better than a sitting duck most of the time. The range is miserly and you need a really inexperienced pilot to fly by without flares to have a chance to take one of the jets down. Basically static AA is just a glorified pair of binoculors similar to those that you might find attached for tourists half way up the Eiffel Tower.

Erm the Static AA and the Mobile AA missiles work exactly the same, the only difference between the two is that one can move. I think all that needs to be done is stop Static AA showing up on the jets HUD when it's in use.

You should rename this thread to "The Groundpounders Convention"

Please you guys were "spoilt" by insane 1.2 AA and you want your toy back again. The only argument you make is against planes. Not once have you mentioned helis because you know they get owned by "all" AA.

The reason AA lock range was reduced because it was insane before. Heli's could be hit by AA before they could even take off. Still on Ghost town this still happens.

You want mobile AA on oman and Dalian as well. Please there is really no pleasing you ground pounders is there unless AA is a guaranteed to be a no skill kill. Oman has static AA at every base. That static AA can cover the entire map and you want mobile AA as well?

Dalian Plant is the same. AA has coverage over the whole map at its current lock on range.

AA is still insane. For helis flares don't work 70-80% of the time. Not only that most of the time flares don't even break the lock. AA goes straight through and ignores the flares most of the time and you want to improve AA?

AA now takes some skill to use. It is a step in the right direction but there is still a flare bug where they really are useless. If flares worked I wouldn't have a problem with the AA but they don't.

If you expect to be able to camp in static AA and not die you really need a reality check. Why don't you stand outside of the AA, wait till you spot a plane then quickly jump in and fire so you don't show up on their HUD. How about giving helis the same ability as planes and a box shows up what AA is manned?

Please guys you really just want your easy instant, no skill weapon back. The "air noob toob"

lol Capt. HKS, well if this is the Groundpounders Convention then you're in the wrong place - the Fly Boys Convention is the next door on the left...

You're saying people wishing to use static AA should camp beside the AA and jump in when a jet happnes to fly by? IF you were trying to convince someone to buy BF2 then explaining to them that proposed method for using AA would make them run a mile. What a tedious game it would be for any player following your advice. And anyway, by the time you jump into an AA site, the jet would be long out of range. If you didn't already know, jets flying in on AA sites blow them up with their cannons regardless of them actually being manned or not. The cannon splash damage will kill anyone camping close to an AA site.

If Oman or Dalian is littered with AA sites and if adding mobile AA was a realistic resolution for DICE then so would concurrently removing some of the useless and boring to use static sites.

Pro-helo pilots still do ok regardless and if flares are fixed at the same time, I don't see what the problem is.

You will find most jet pilots only strafe an AA site when they see its manned as in when a box shows up saying "kill me here" You can stand right next to the static AA and a plane won't know you are there. Jump in as the plane flies overhead or you know its not aiming in your direction. Nothing about running a mile.

I agree if the flares are fixed then no heli pilots would have a problem with current AA, its when they don't break lock or they go straight through the flares and hit the heli is what ****es us off.

Well, I've no idea where you're getting your reasoning from but that's just simply not my experience of how things work with good pilots. Have you not seen the videos that've been flashed all over the various forums? I've tried the camping in the site, I've tried the waiting close by, and a decent pilot's attack line to an enemy base involves first taking out the AA regardless of occupation. Campers sitting close to the site die just as quickly due to the splash damage. This happens all the time at the main MEC base on Gulf of Oman and the AA site on the coast of Dalian Plant.

I would take an AA site out manned or not, if my chopper is heading there it's top of my list.

I must warn you that mobile AA may not be the threat you think it would be. It needs to be used with a plane, e.g. Kubra Dam I've got 30-1 k/d ratios on this map against a poor enemy pilot.

The reason I'm keen on seeing this is because it promotes teamwork and add's more tactical value to flags that spawn MobileAA. Mobile AA is a threat that can't be ignored and has to be dealt with.

I think what a lot of ground pounders want is to be able to take revenge on a pilot, that is not going to happen. The only time you would shoot down a good pilot with it, is if he is following another plane or makes a mistake.

Which is fair enough jakswan. At least infantry in mobile AA aren't bored stupid and can do other useful tasks for the team if there's no aircraft in the vicinity to try to shoot down. The fact they're mobile also means there's more skill in using them effectively compared to sitting duck, short-ranged, AA sites.

Static AA never really worked against jets, in any patch, as long as the pilot knew basic tactics against them.

Not every base in Oman has a static AA. The static AA doesn't "cover the entire map", even if there was one at every base. You like just making stuff up?

I never see mobile AA being used for AA purposes. Usually people use it as a troop sweeper or to take out apcs and other crap. Kind of a waste if you ask me but the AA vehicles do have some incredibly fun guns to shoot.

Static AA is not meant to go toe to toe with 100% health jets. It is meant to wound them and scare them out of an area, and if a jet has already been damaged then it can kill them. Those of you saying that jets can easily dodge surface to air missles don't have a clue. If I don't have flares I get hit by 85%+ of the surface to air fired against me (assuming it was fired by a somewhat competent person). Furthermore, if you are one of the people who just sits there in the AA, you deserve to die. You have to put some thought into when you are going to get in the AA and get your shots off, it really isn't hard to do.

If you want to go toe to toe with jets you need to get in mobile AA, that's what it is made for. If you want to cry about something, then cry about the few maps that don't have mobile AA. The ones that don't have it don't really need it, but it wouldn't be huge either way if they did add a few.

I think AA in v1.21 is very nearly perfect. I've seen aircraft dodge missiles before, so they aren't the hit-100%-of-the-time noob weapons that people once claimed them to be. However, the missiles are still effective enough to make short work of aircraft that get too close.

The missiles are somewhat range limited, both because of limited tracking and the actual lock-on range, but I think this helps balance them out.

Says who? You? Are you from DICE? Did you program the AA?

I'm sorry, but until someone clarifies that your voice is representative for the design of BF2 then I fail to see why your logic should be deemed definitive...

AA that's supposed to wound and scare jets. Come on! If you expect some dogsbody infantry player to spend their time in static AA just scaring off jets in an fps then you must be out of your mind. Are jets just supposed to scare off armour?

AA is designed to kill air assets, just like a TOW is meant to kill ground vehicles. There's no alternative use, there's no "scaring" about it lol.

So what about giving the Assault class a single Stinger to use? It would make for more mobile AA and would give the Assault class a useful purpose.
