Hey, I'm not anti kids playing video games, I did, a lot of my friends did, and heaps of kids do today. And I don't know this guy or his son, but I don't think hyping up your kids performance in a video game is setting the best role model for them, nor is playing online together for hours on end the most constructive thing to do with your kids. It's important to encourage them into academics and maybe sports (but not fanatically) first and formost, take em out doing things and teaching them about the world, and THEN as a treat once in a while to let em play computer games.

As long as he balances BF2 with playing with his friends and spending time outdoors then it's cool. I'm just jealous that he has those skills at such a young age

Seriously though, for the dads with kids under 15 who play BF2, WTF are you doing to them? Its not admirable that they're zoning out playing online, take em to a park, for fishing with them, buy em a book or something. Encouraging them to play BF2 and revelling in your kids performance is nothing to be proud about.

Someone with brains. Pay attention people.

I'm not a parent. Just a teen. I do probably play this game a little more than I should. However I have a job and do good in school (not so good since job..lol). If anything in my defense. It's hard to find friends that are drug free and not complete idiots. BF 2 (only game I play right now) is a clean way for me to be entertained; as opposed to doing stupid things and 'experimenting' with drugs.

Yeah. Each to his own I guess, but I play BF2 when the kids are in bed and the wife is asleep. When they're awake and I'm not working I try to spend as much time with them as possible and NEVER play games. My logic being that when they're older, they're not going to look back and think "man, I remember all those great times when Dad was playing on the internet while I sat there bored and watched TV" (which they wouldn't), but instead all the stuff we do together.

Which basically describes my job. Should I deny him his future? ROFL just kidding.

Seriously, I set very strict restrictions on the games/movies my son is allowed to play/see. We also have our "game time", which is based on my son's behavior and how he's doing in school.

Interestingly enough... we were very reluctant to allow him to play BF2, but he really loves the first person shooters. He plays SW:Battlefront and Jedi Academy. One of our rules is no blood or gore.

He got into "Army Guns" and wanted a first person shooter that was military style. EVERY ONE of the others had blood. BF2 was the ONLY one we found without blood. I got it and played it for a while to get the feel of it. Then my wife watched me play both single player and online.

No blood, respawning players (no perm deaths)... after some discussion he was allowed to play. The only thing we object to is there's some language. I think they say Damn sometimes. Of course he can't read yet so all the garbage these other guys type is irrelevent to him.

Uh... so anyways... he roxxors! LOL it's a blast being in the same squad with him right in the next room.

If I am a father myself, I would rather be proud of he when he gets admitted into Harvard or get initiated into a pre-law/pre-med/pre-business fraternity.

I would be ashamed to see my children waste their life on video game like I did during highschool.

confidence comes from a variety of sources, but the most direct mean of obtaining confidence is to compete with others and demostrate that you are better than them at certain aspect of life. video game can and does increase confidence (just look at planewhore), but it's not the life long confidence that will follow you into the real world.

As a person who can fly a jeep better than a jet. I would like to meet these kids and beat them up. A good man Vs Kid beating will do.

Thats why you shouldn't let your kids play. Its not about their education, its about having to protect them against arseholes like me.
