Because they'd be useless. TK or not, claymores placed almost anywhere relevant will get detonated by the incidental teammate - including ones at the tops of ladders.

I don't agree with you guys who maintain that claymores are only "supposed" to be used for back-watching. What you mean to say is, "I think that claymores should only be used for back-watching". No one of us has psychic powers and know what the developers intended (although from their patches, they obviously think that claymores should be used for more than just guarding ladders).

I personally like that Snipers can contribute to the team now, performing a role that very few people bothered with - namely, defense.

Make your change and they (snipers and claymores) get downgraded back into inconsequence for the team.

Yes, it's a very good weapon. Earlier today, I was playing EF on Operation Smoke Screen. I had seen an enemy on the UAV so I went over to the base as a sniper to check it out. I couldn't find him AT ALL. It was like he was invisible. Finally, I dropped a claymore on the flag and I guess he saw me walking away because 3 seconds later he was dead. :)

Before the last patch, I tossed those claymores left and right and got over thousands of kills overtime, it was great.
Just lay them allover the palace in Warlord and you would rack a ****load of kills per round.

Well, in all of the war movies I've ever seen. The soldiers setup claymore traps in areas where they expect the enemy to be walking thru. Usually it is some type of choke point where they have to walk thru that area to get to where they are trying to go. So thats what I do when I setup claymores to defend the flag. I place them in areas where I can best guess an enemy will walk thru to get to the flag.

I can only go by the war movies I've seen, because I am NOT a war hero

I never said I care about points. What's wrong with wanting to win the round for your team? Or do you just care for your stats?

Why do you play multiplayer games if you get so upset if OTHERS don't play the way you want them to play and especially when your OPPONENTS don't play the way YOU want them to play?

There seems to be a general misconception here that claymores are self defence weapons........no they are not. They are also extremely effective ambush weapons.

This is my objection to the limitation of the use of claymores in the game. First, in the "real world" claymores are commonly used by special forces, airborne infantry, and recon as well as snipers. So, it should be more commonly available in the game, if we're trying to be realistic. Secondly, claymores are a "command detonated" weapon, like the C4 packs in the game. The only way to set up claymores to otherwise explode is to use a trip-wire. The do not have proximity detonation, which is the way they work in the game.

Other than that I think the use of claymore should only be limited by the imagination. As they say... "all's fair in Love and War"... fight on!!

I guess I'll dispel this myth again. Claymores can be fitted with all sorts of motion and acoustical sensors. You can read for yourself on Wikipedia...just look up M18 Claymore.

Re: Why the claymore mine is a good thing.

i always have and will play sniper,
and i will and always will use what im given in my kit(i.e claymore)

but tba i never used them mutch before 1.2 due to the teamkilling that occured regulary.

                    example(before 1.2)

i climb a ladder and a obvious place to put my claymore is at the top?
but then that means my team cant climb up it or even worse i cant be a squad leader just incase a team mate spawn's on me and set the dam thing off.

                    example(now)
i can drop a claymore now istead of worrying about a team m8 running in to it.and i dont have to guess the possiblity of a possible 50000+differnt bf2 players abilty to see the red skull anymore!!!

the weapon is balanced its simple as that.

its in my kit so im going to use it,even if that means the player who walk's in to it likes it or not.

less face it you are going to die anyway,
got to lol at karland last night i drop 1 clay at a flag(cappable by vehical)
and mr apc pulls up and mr apc decided the flag would go down faster if he got out,yep boom dead,i gain a apc out of it but died shortly after on a enemy mine, apc brakes are not good :)

there are so many ways to die on this game crying about dying to a claymore is one of them, get used to it you are playing a online game.

as a avid sniper that likes to defend i find the claymore to be a handy little bit of my kit, that i can accualy use now.

to fully understand the need for ff off you need to be playing sniper all the time with a passion from pre 1.2 onwards to appriciate what EA have done to the class,i cap flags .lead squads, cover team ,kill enemy snipers,if the fla is to hot i just wait for them to go(they always do rush for another flag)then ill get it back if i can,

the claymore can be used anyway the sniper wants he only has 2

im thinking of sticking one to the bonet of a jeep and wait for the enemy to take it (clay facing forward) wonder what would happen if the jeep goes up to a few freindlys saying" get in"
ironic cus if i get i kill ill be saying "get in to" :)

cant think of anything else atm i may add some coments l8r

you said in another topic, about the same topic, "If I get a kill, the other team lost a ticket, and this is what counts, not the way I killed"

and it is an atetude like this who ruins the game , you just think about winning and how doesn't mather, people like if they could, they would just fill up a map with claymores , gameplay doesn't mather for you .

And I like playing online, I play on good servers, where FF is still on for claymores , and there the gameplay is way better then on those other server where some claymore abusers are running around, on those servers gameplay is put back hard, just because after every corner there is a claymore and there is way less good infantry fighting (meaning shooting at each other) .

If I would only care about my stats, I would also be a claymore whore, or noob tuber whore, or only think about winning the round , what I even do, is when the team keeps winning the round, I switch teams to the loosing team, for maybe helping/balancing things , and if we loose, who cares, you are just an idiot, all your replys here on the forum are just filled with stupid remarks, flaming, .... .

you are just afraid EA would turn the FF for claymores back on for everybody, and you who finaly managed to kill someone, would again be a total cry baby because you can't aim or whatever .

give us a link to your stats man, I am shure you are the biggest claymore whore around

I agree some what but, when people so many it gets annoying because you only die from Claymores. Also you should only have one Claymore per kit.

Oh please, the kit has been neutered enough already. Why not just vote for the M95 to only have 1 clip, 1 grenade, and never being able to run and jump at the same time. Go back to N64.

PBJ Time is correct. I stand corrected. Thanks for setting me straight. In my own experience I've only seen the command detonation devices. This opens a whole world of possibilities. Thanks again.

From Wikipedia: "Uncontrolled Mode (also known as Victim Initiated Detonation) - Uncontrolled firing is accomplished when the mine is installed in such a manner as to cause an unsuspecting enemy to detonate the mine. Mines employed in this manner must be reported and recorded as land mines. There are many fuzing mechanisms that can be used to initiate the M18A1 in uncontrolled mode, including the M142 Multipurpose Firing Device, M5 Pressure Release Device (mousetrap), tripwires, strikers, infrared sensors, acoustic & vibration sensors.

But I'll bet you have to do more to set them up than just drop them.
