Re: Why the claymore mine is a good thing.

claymores are lame, are ment to be used to protect your sniping position , not ment to be used as primary weapon .

lately I play a lot on a server who kick guys who use the claymore as primairy weapon, and it isn't used much there, can say only one thing, gameplay is way better .

and putting a claymore on a flag isn't defending it, it's just making it inpossible for the enemy to get on the flag, and you just cut of a part of the map, defending a flag is beeing there

I think "making it impossible for the enemy to get on the flag" is a perfect definition of defense. Also, it is not impossible when you are in a squad.

I just use the claymore when I find myself in a server with newbs and no one is defending.

Usually, I tank whore or play medic.

Re: Why the claymore mine is a good thing.

Agreeing with Romb here... as a long time sniper, it pains me to see so many players resorting to this tactic. Plant a claymore in crowded area, run about, wait for kill confirm, repeat.

It still begs the question, why on earth was it ever changed in 1.2? The primary effect of the patch seems to be that Noob Tubists turned to the PKM, and C4 smammers to the claymore. Claymores were more than fine before then. Teammates would set them off (without a server having to sacrifice AT mine TK protection) and they could be detonated with explosives. Meant you had to use your brain to make sure they were useful.

Claymores being used as a primary weapon is no less unfair/cheap/childish than C4 spamming.

Like Rombaft said.. if you want to defend a flag, you're meant to be at the location physically. Using 'flag defence' as a reason for rigging a flag with claymores is little more than a pathetic excuse for raking in risk-free, involvement-free point farming in my eyes.

maybe, but it is a game man, if you can't admit, that when nowbody is at a flag, and you can't cape it because it's claymored, this is lame, well .....

Where does it say that Claymores are "ment" to be used to protect your sniping position? In RoE? Is running over people with jeeps forbidden too because cars are for transportation only?

Hoho. Isn't the whole purpose of defence to make it impossible for the enemy to get the flag or just to stay there and watch them take the flag or what?

That's exactly what mines are used for and designed for in real-life too; to block enemy units acces to certain areas and/or destroy enemy vehicles and personnel who detonate the mines.

edit: But on the otherhand, with your logic, everthing that kills you is probably lame.

Oh, no - that's not how it works now. I am suggesting it as a change that would help balance claymores.

Re: Why the claymore mine is a good thing.

I'd have to agree that claymores are fine how they are now. It was never about the sniper being smart about where he placed his claymores before. It was about hoping that your teammates were smart enough to avoid them. I would get teamkills even placing my claymores in the most obscure places because people would ignore the red sign.

It's not as if they are a big deal because snipers only get two. I can count on one hand the number of times I've been killed by a claymore since the patch so I don't feel as if it's this huge problem affecting gameplay.

Like it was said before, it should promote squad gameplay as you will be fine with a medic. I don't know why people have such a hard time finding servers that play as squads. I've found several that have good people who go play as a team. So I just play on these servers and it solves my problem of having a squad smart enough to get past a claymore. There are always ways around things and a claymore mine is no different.

In any case, being able to crawl up to a claymore to disable it is a good idea.

yes, Keith Maniac, we all know what kind of lowlife you are , and we all know allready you only care about points and winning the round nomather how you did it , about 99.99% of your replys here on the forum point out your lame behavior in the game , I am just glad I don't see you in tha game, it's already bad enough I and many others have to put up with you on the forum here

Always send in a single person to the flag to de-claymore it. . .have a medic hang back to revive them if need be. Works wonders. As a medic I love watching a whole squad run in, get blow apart, then run in my self, revive them all and then get the neut/cap points as well.

That's not the point, the point is that every death is a setback, and it's fairly ridiculous to call a medic a solution to anything because anyone playing the game can quickly tell that having a medic in your squad doesn't turn any confrontation into an automatic win.

So what? When things change, things change. People need to devise new strategies (3 of which I gave to them in this thread) to overcome new threats. Or, hey - don't lose the TV station in the first place.
One of those strategies was to send an engineer, which is the biggest joke I've heard all week. If I put the claymore in the corner, or facing into the doorway, and throw another one facing the laddertop, how are you gonna disarm it again?

The other was bringing an medics, which as I mentioned above, is hardly a solution.

Claymores killing (or being detonated by) teammates is not a reasonable way to balance claymores. It's patently ridiculous to make the lifespan and effectiveness of any item reliant on the intelligence and discretion of the rest of the team. No other item functions like that (except landmines, but that's a given).
And no other item is unable to be neutralized without suffering a mandatory death.

Claymores being destroyable by other explosions is not a reasonable way to balance claymores. It's also ridiculous that my claymores can be destroyed in a second by artillery, bombs, the Mi-28's cannon, nearby grenades, or any other explosive projectile. These incidental explosions used to set off claymores through walls, around corners, and in other completely silly ways. I don't expect changes to the basic collision engine, so we're stuck with this limitation.
The main purpose of claymores was to guard laddertops so snipers wouldn't get knifed in the back. Lately, they're being used as point blocks and occasionally even used as shotguns. I've seen people frequently lead the scoreboard with just claymores.

Setting them off through walls, I've never seen. Destroyed by artillery, OH NO! Destroyed by the Mi-28 cannon, well if the claymore's getting destroyed by it, doesn't that make the sniper pretty much dead meat too, hence that point's moot?

If a sniper's using it defensively and it goes off, then they can easily bail out or reset it. That was the case in 1.12 and it worked fine.

Claymores do not detonate if the enemy approaches it while prone and crawling.
Not a bad idea, except they still have to be removable otherwise you're still slow-moving bait. Forcing someone to spend 30 seconds to get by it is almost as bad as just having it blow them up.

And allowing it to be disarmed by crawling up to it would make sense if engineers weren't such a godawful combat class. It's pretty ridiculous to bring an engineer as claymore insurance when 90% of the time, they're just gonna be dead weight.

I'm touched. I'll keep repeating the same solutions because they were quite fine before except when teammates were retarded enough to crawl up a ladder, get blasted, and punish for it.

I had no sympathy for idiot snipers who would throw anti-personnel mines around areas heavily-travelled by teammates and expect not to get a TK.

If teammates detonated claymores for no damage, and that was the ONLY change made, how exactly would it be 2 steps back? It would be right back to 1.12 minus the rambo claymore snipers or turtling points to ridiculous extents because the odds of a claymore going off without an enemy detonating them are zero.

Care to explain WHY those solutions are so bad, and especially with explosives destroying them, how they caused REAL problems before when used for their REAL purpose, defending ladders?

Who says a claymore's main purpose is to guard ladders anyways? True, an intended use is to defend the sniper but claymores are also intended to ambush choke points and such. They are intended for mainly defensive but also limited offensive use.

I agree they should be able to be diffused or blown up by things but it should take an extra bit of effort aside from simply pulling out your pistol and shooting it. Since a sniper can't move foliage around and stuff to effectively disguise his placed claymores, then a he should be compensated by a claymore that can't be easily diffused.

I just thought I'd throw this in as to not clog up the more useful thread that is going on elsewhere.
