He is just starting a discussion and although most of you may be perfectly fine playing this game and keeping your priorities straight, I'm sure there are a good number out there who fit right into what he is saying.

Do you know that by having the ranks and awards system in BF2, EA/Dice have created a system by which we are conditioned into BF2 addicts similar to laboratory pigeons being conditioned to peck on a button for the reward of seeds for them to eat?

It is true. I studied this in psychology 101. The BF2 ranks and awards system is a form of an Operant Conditioning Behavior Shaping. The ranks and awards are on a variable interval reinforcement schedule. This intermittent reinforcement schedule creates the most consistent response rate amongst laboratory pigeons. Likewise the ranks and awards on the same type of reinforcement schedule creates a system by which you become very addicted the BF2 game play.

For example; every time I start to get bored with this game, I get a new award or rank and it motivates me to spend even more hours playing this game! I feel like a crack addict hooked on this game!

Technically, if we can get enough cases of people together that are under achieving in school or work due to too many hours spent playing BF2 we can put together a pretty strong case, for a class action lawsuit against EA/Dice. For example; if you are flunking out of school because you spend too many hours playing BF2, you can claim that your behavior was shaped by EA/Dice's operant conditioning variable interval reinforcement awards and ranking schedule.

I bet if we did a study on this we would find there is an astonishing number of people adversly affected by this game

i wholely agree with you. im failing at my 17th job since i graduated because of dice/ea bf series. i live at home and have exhausted my medical insurance and parents life savings on psychological counsiling to no avail. my girlfriend left me, bitch said i played too much bf and did not give her any.i just can't kick my bf addiction. it's all a plot by the red communist chinese owned dice/ea to destroy this country.

I bet it is a communist plot to destroy america. Thier reasoning probably is. If they invent enough video games to keep us busy. We wont study as hard, eventually americans will all turn into mindless slugs playing video games all day every day. Minewhile thier kids back in china are books worms getting A+ on thier calculus tests, becoming the worlds best engineers and doctors and all. Eventually, if not already, they will have all of the smartest engineers in the world, and america will become thier prey for them manipulate us any way they want.

actually the gaming addicition is more prevalent in Asian countries.

Personally I found gaming has no impact on grade if you can maintain an sufficient amount of learning.

I play because its the closest at the moment I can get to utilizing all these vehicles and weapons without not-so-cool repercussions. Nothing like having a jacked up day at worka nd then coming home, getting drunk and dropping 5 snakeeyes on a bunch of unsuspecting bystanders exchanging fire with your people on the ground, nothing like the smell of depleted uranium :)

sidenote: stats mean nothing, I got promoted atleast 6 times yesterday to Master Sergeant because I never went to my HQ section or whatever to accept the promotion, because I don't CARE!. And if you do then you need to take yourself to eharmony.com and meet someone who can assist you with boosting your self esteem

The addiction created by Battlefield 2 must not be TOO strong, because I play on Ranked Servers only, and play 1-2 hours at most every day.

im, an addict to the game and for me the stat system always gets me continuing playing. When you start to wonder wtf your doing, just shooting att graphical images of people then die, and repeat and repeat, the new award or unlock just barely motivates me to continue.

Until you have sat infront of your comp playing bf2 for 12 - 16 hours a day for weeks on end you wont understand what this guy is talking about.

You have no right to flame him for this thread there are actually people that bad out there until recently I was one of them.

Stop bitching at him like the bunch of Cu*ts that you are he has valid point and this is a good post. Just because you dont have a problem doesnt mean that others dont.

The Points, Ranks, Weapons, new Maps, etc, are there for two raisons:

1) To keep you playing again and again in order to get better scores and unlocks and other toys;

2) To test if people can really get addicted to the game,..... enough to ba able to charge a monthly fee to play a game in the future.

It is very simple, many, many games are going to have a monthly fee (like some consoles and other PC games right now). And so far it works pretty well.

Same for the EA downloader and Steam (Valve). In the future games and patches will be available in a central place in a structure way: everybody will have the same version at the same time (Steam).
