Re: Boost Medic IQ, Delay Revive Points

At this point, who really gives a crap about points? Actually, who ever really gave a crap about points to begin with? Weapon unlocks I understand, but still it's a fairly small amount of points and you've got all of your weapons unlocked, so what's the really big deal? Though, clearly some people actually DO care about score (rather than contributing to the game, or having fun), so in that respect I support these kind of changes. People who play purely for points do nothing but drag a team down, and play for the all mighty point rather than pushing toward a team victory in a round. I say punish these players and force them to use a little more thought when attempting to revive a player.

That being said, the medic revive idea is a good one, and one that I've personally had stirring around in the back of my mind for the longest time. Not to say medics don't deserve the points they've recieved for reviving a fallen soldier (as it saves tickets for a team and gets that soldier back in to the action much quicker). However a medic whom revives a soldier directly in front of a waiting tank is useless to a team, dead weight if you will. This type of player will typically have neither a positive nor a negative effect on the overall performance of the team with this type of behavior (past occupying a team slot, of course). Actually, now that a think about it a little more, in a way they do negatively effect the team by extending the respawn timer certain individuals must wait to get back in the action, in addition they often die in the process and cost the team an additional ticket.

On top of that they should also limit kits (healing kits or supply kits) to one on the ground at a time. I'm getting a little tired of people running around throwing down massive amounts of kits simply for the purpose of farming points.

Not that I really care all that much either way, but it'd still improve the game.

I read the first few posts then skiupped to the end to say this... NO WAY MANG!!
might as well give assaults a 10 seconds of no points between kills.
        or...something else lame.
medics will always be reviving. points or not.

Re: Boost Medic IQ, Delay Revive Points

I think it's a great idea. Now if you want to be a medic you do it for altruistic reasons and not just to whore points. What Wargimp is proposing is that the medic should be able to still revive and help his team but not turn it into a point whoring fest. So go ahead and revive but do it for the right reasons, to benefit your team and not just your score.

            :p

not enough meds as is. How often out of how ever many deaths you have did you get revived? probably less then 35%

I say dont nerf. Stop changing the game around when no one bought it like that in the first place

Most rounds I play in the most meds get is around 13-5 people revived and with little kills thats because thats all meds do most I seen was like 27 revives but he was in a squad. No one seems to care or give a cra@ when a med runs out just to revive you most of the time not even making it

You have 15secs.... A good/expert med can turn the whole game around. Leave as is and stop with all the nerfs to everything

Make the suicide option while dead not give negative points so if you get shot down and dont want to be revived you can kill yourself with out getting negative points

Re: Boost Medic IQ, Delay Revive Points

It's a good idea, but personally I'm dreading the day it comes :)

I'm a medic. Sometimes, I refuse to revive a teammate killed by a tank.
Either, We both die, or he respawn as anti-tank. Which would you choose?
Other times, when I play with some friends, we get into fierce discussions.
              Friend "Revieve me, hurry up"
Me "Are you blind? Did you not SEE the tank which killed you? Respawn as a anti-tank, get some points"
              Friend "Oh"

Re: Boost Medic IQ, Delay Revive Points

Sounds good to have a pause between revive and points but lets take it one more step then. The medic should only carry a side arm (not rifle) and anyone that kills the medic has points removed, if the medic kills someone he has points removed. In real war a medic is a non combatant.

Great Idea. Sorta like my Spawn Gaurd Idea, that no one likes. lol.
But this one works, as I too hate being revived in front of an enemy tank. I just dont get it....myself.

This is a far better idea than the original idea, it has the same effect, and would probably involve less coding. In this case, it's up to the person who just got shot by a tank to decide whether its safe to be revived or not. I know this kinda happens at the minute whereby you can click the mouse to shout for a medic when you die, but making it more obvious that somebody wants reviving would be alot better. Of course then you're always gonna get the idiot who asks to be revived even if they know the medic will die too...

But, still discussing the original idea: I noticed at one point in this thread wargimp said that if a medic revives a guy who then runs off and the medic then dies in the succesful revive attempt, the medic would still get the points. But surely that's still a bad risk, this time on your part rather than another players?

Plus there'll be the countless number of times when it isn't your fault the guy you just revived dies a second later, like being artillaryed by either of the two commanders the second you shock somebody.

NO, your wrong, its ALWAYS been 2 points for revive, since the day the game came out.

As for this idea of a 10-second delay, im not sure, in my opinion a better idea would be that if the revived victim gets killed by the SAME PERSON that killed him first time then you don't get any points, although this probably isnt possible to code. I think that crazy medics that run into the action to revive people are OK and often help the team (im one of them when i play medic )

but i never run in with the paddles out, i always sweep the immediate area first killing the enemy that got him and then revive, of course its not my fault if someone else turns up and kills him within 10 seconds. A lot can happen in 10 seconds on 64 player city maps As for reviving in front of armour well obviosuly that stupid MOST of the time but i have been revived in that situation before and gone on to kill the tank myself if i am an appropriate class.

This all being said, for myself i actually couldnt care less if you didnt get ANY points at all for reviving i would still do it, im a team player

I completly agree that a player should be able to choose not to be revived, the dead player usually knows better then anyone the risk of his situation.

I like your idea, except for this. I agree that it sucks to get revived in the line of fire just to die instantly, but this may be pushing things. If I revive 3 DIFFERENT guys in 10 seconds...i should get those points. If I revive the SAME guy 3 times or more in 10 seconds, I shouldn't get more then 2 points. Maybe shorten the time limit though. 10 seconds can be a long time in BF2. I know I've revived somebody, and he was able to get up and run away, only to run into somebody elses gun fire and die again. I don't really play medic much, but when I do revive somebody, I "try" not to do it when there's incoming fire. Doesn't always happen that way.

Anyway...I think you're on to something here, although I think the biggest benefit of this would be the taking away points from statpadders.

                            Hi all

I have to admit that the idea has merit. I don't usually play medic. I'm either assault or support. There is nothing nicer in the game than gunning down the opposing team and seeing a medic rush in. We've all done it, just wait for the medic to dive down by his buddy and then let rip. Two easy kills. If its part of a squad and a few are down don't shoot the medic because he will try to revive as many as possible. Just follow him around with the gun sights and shoot anything he revives. Can be easy points.
But then again sometimes the guy is quick enough (and intelligent enough) to leg it as soon as he can. The beast ones start jumping and running as soon as they are revived. Most know that someone is waiting for the medic to do his job.

Instead of nerfing hte medic, why not implement a button that you can click if you don't want to be revived? Like "Go on without me" :p

Aye. Honestly, that's the bit of code I like the least as well.
It occurs to me that it would be possible to set the delay flag up so that it referances to the specific guy revived instead of a general flag. This would allow you to still delay the points per revive, but you'd get credit for everyone you zap... as long as they're still alive 10 seconds later.

I haven't finished my coffee yet, so I'm not going to attempt the psudo-code ATM. :p

This isn't the point. The idea isn't to nerf the medic, it's to simply not award points to medics that do boneheaded revives. Aside from that, I think that if you open your spawn screen and leave it open, you can't be revived. I read that someplace and have heard medics zapping me while I was choosing a different kit, but didn't get revived. I'm not sure tho.

                                Can anyone verify either way?
