    Re: V1.21 Laggers Look In

yea im talking about connection lag, not FPS lag. I only have 1 gig of ram, but ive been running on high settings since 1.12 with almost no slow down.

i would also like to know if any nvidia users are having this problem.

Brother, can you spare a gig? That seems pretty expensive for 512 chip. Can't you order one from a site here like newegg?

Mate.. read what is being said.. people with 2G of RAM are experiencing this problem..

It is NOT RAM issue. I believe it is an issue between 1.21 and ati.. nothing i can personnaly do as i bought the my ATI radeon at the same time as i bought BF2. It worked fine until 1.21 so why should i go out and by yet more RAM.

I wish people who are not having the problem would stop getting on the soap box's and telling everyone else whats our problem is..

I am not looking for a solution. I have tried EVERYTHING. It worked thenc ame 1.21.. it doesnt work.. simple as that. So wheres the issue?

I refuse to upgrade my PC anymore. Not out of principle but i just cant bloody afford it.

Like i said.. and keep saying... it worked now it doesnt.. how can my PC be to blame?

I'm an nvidia user who is not having this problem. When I first patched it seemed like a bunch of servers were (connection) laggy, but my guess at that time was it was because not all servers were patched and the ones that had been patched were in Europe. When I was playing last night I was routinely getting pings between 30 and 60ms. In the past the only time I've had connection lag issues were when I needed to update PB. But from your post it seems that you've done that. Have you turned off any firewalls that you might have (ZoneAlarm, Windows Firewall)? If you have a hardware router than they are largely unnecessary anyway.

From the posts I've read from people who have made the jump from 1gb to 2, they have almost universally praised it for its curative value. As a long-time programmer, I hate to prescribe throwing hardware at what is clearly a software problem, but sometimes that is the only answer. I wish I had a better answer for you. I understand your (and the other dudes) frustration with this. It sucks when you know others are not having the same issues, even though their hardware might seem similar.

I thought that many of the ATI users were having problems with the 1.2 patch and that the 1.21 had fixed it for them? Did I misunderstand those posts? I've seen some threads about alternative drivers for the ATI cards being a fix.

I have seen that the patch has sorted some people out but appears at the same time unsorted a whole other bunch of people.

Can you tell from the forums which series of cards are ok and which aren't? There seem to be people with all (supported) levels of ATI cards. Maybe you can find someone with the same card as you and see if they are (or have) experienced the same problem and what they did to sort it out (if they were able to). I know that you didn't want to post your rig specs, but humor me. At least put the video card (series, ram, pci-e or agp) and which drivers you're using. Maybe there will be someone with the same spec that has a solution or ideas. Being an Nvidia owner, I am not that person.

                Re: V1.21 Laggers Look In

i have an x850 pro overclocked slightly with 1 gig of ram, i only get lag problems at the start of a round on a new map and i have to have textures on medium as i only have 1gb of ram.

rest are all high with 2xAA.

Main cause of lag for = SOUND, people harp on about DICE and EA being biased towards nvidia etc everyone is blatently ignoring the fact that ea and dice are ALL THE WAY biased towards creative so much so they dont even bother trying to let other soundcards have a chance.

your soundcard could be a source of lag, does the lag seem to arrive when a sound file is played?

                    Re: V1.21 Laggers Look In

When are you people gonna get it? There are a lot of us affected in the same way with lag, stuttering, etc.

The problem started with 1.2 and/or 1.21 plain and simple. We didn't have the problem before the patch, so what makes you think you can fix it with comments like we need more RAM, Update PB, Defrag, pick a bail of cotton, etc. None of that matters. IT IS THE PATCH!

We're not looking for answers from you, we've tried everything mentioned in every forum. We're hoping EA/Dice will see the amount of publicity this issue is getting and step up to do something about it.

Isn't it odd that there's been no comment from EA/Dice on this issue? That's because they know their at fault and they don't want to admit to it at this point. I bet they admit it when they finally have a solution. Until then they're content with unsatisfied customers spending all their time complaining on the forums when our time should be spent on the Battlefield.

Then make sure to say something to that effect when you start a thread. That way those of us who would like to help won't waste our time responding.

I've never questioned the idea of the patch causing performance issues for some users. They certainly caused (and admitted) problems with plenty of ATI users in the last patch. I hope that they put the time and and fix what they've caused.

But there are some users with either connection lag or fps lag that are related to drivers or other issues mentioned here. Many have been able to fix their problems with the help or ideas of other users. There are steps in any troubleshooting process that have to be checked off. Hardware, drivers, etc etc. If you've done all of those things and didn't get results I'm sorry that we've wasted your time in asking about it. It is not my intent to waste anyones time frivolously.

If there are enough disgruntled lagging users why not register heydicefixbattlefield2.com.

No worries. I didn't mean to pi$$ off anyone who is honestly trying to help, but there are a number of morons out there that like to throw their comment in just to brag about how great their computer is and how someone is a sub-standard human if they don't have 2gig of RAM.

I've spent a lot of money building an above average computer and I still get serious lag. I'm convicned it's the Patch.

Anyway, my frustration is with EA/Dice.

Something new.. for the first time since having hte game i decided to play it on my tod.. single player.. although I was conected to the main server (logged in). I pld bots..

I got the lag... so does that mean its not actuall lag? I would have thought it not lag as i wasnt playing on a server..

Run renderer.drawFPS 1 to show your framerate at the top right of the screen. I have an Athlon 3700+ with 1gig of ram and Geforce 6800GS...Battlefield 2 used to run perfectly at 60-80fps on all high settings but with 2xAA and medium textures. Now it is consistently stuck at 15fps. What happened with this patch? I watch my ping and it is typically 20-50 since im on a T1 connection at a university. The problem, for me at least, is not internet lag. Its the patch screwing up the graphics.

I was able to run everything at MAX settings before the 1.21 patch.
Using Fraps, I saw that my FPS was never dropping below 55, even
                                on 64 player maps.
Now, I have everything on medium settings, 800x600 res, and getting
as low as 13 FPS on some maps.
The game went from hero to zero, stud to dud, overnight.

I have included my specs in my sig, I don't think I should have an issue
                                running this game...
