Re: I Hath Discovered Armor whorage!

You should never spawn and see armor sitting there, unused and hurting your team, and sitting there waiting for the enemy to steal it. Your team benefits from having someone dedicated to keeping that armor in action..
    Werd.

Enemies grabbing your armored vehicles is 100 times worse than any aromor whore on your own team.

Well, tonight I was playing on Sharqui. My SL desided to hold the TV station. I noticed the tank wasn't taken, so I hopped in before it got stolen and used against us. The rest of the squad was dug in perty good and since I knew I had the tank, they wouldn't have to worry about it respawning and getting swipped. I helped with D for a little bit, but soon desided the tank would be better used elsewhere.

My first run out to the front, I got a perty good kill streak but got ended by the enemy tank. Respawned, grabbed the tank, made a comment about whorage, and rolled out again. Rise, repeat.

By the end of the round, I had learned a lot about how to keep tanks alive longer and punching more tickets. I suddenly understood what armour whoring is all about.

I managed to score both my Armoured Service Ribbon (finally, told you I don't whore much) AND my Good Conduct Medal!

          A note:
I love enemy medics. Drop one guy and just wait for the medics to show up. They will and they're free kills.
I dont like armour at all myself really. But jesus theres probably nothing better when your frustrated :p. Having a bad day get in a tank and feel the frustration drain away .

Ya, I don't care much for being an armor whore. But wait?! I have over a hundred hrs in armor and blah blah....ya, i know, so what. I only use armor because of two things...better our team has it and better that someone who knows how to use a tank/apc well use it. So many times have I seen people drive off in the tank/apc just to...well see the vehicle respawn a minute later lol. So though some people call it armor whoring, it is a valuable asset to the team, just as the UAV is. the question really is, would you prefer someone who knows how to use the thing on your side and using it for all its worth helping your team, or for it to be used by idiots that crash into buildings or even just remain unused. I hate using tanks...because its boring...but i'll jump into any armor I see because I know I can better help the team that way.

Occasionally, when the 'hawks are sitting rusting and there's not much teamwork going on, I'll pick up a chopper and just practice flying low... like really low. There's nothing quite so amusing as managing a hit and run (without touching the ground) through a full squad of grunts.

Funny, I was having a perty rotten day yesterday. Felt the need to just kill stuff. That prolly is what fueled my rampage.

Any yeah, it really is satisfying watching your victems fly through the air.

Man I wish that I had some chopper skills. Since I don't the ground is all that's left for me. I see guys who can do mad things in attack choppers and all I can do is flip one over and die. I have yet to flip a tank, so that's where I'll continue to get my freak on

Seriously, does anyone know of a thread or guide for effective chopper flying? I've seen ones about how to be a good gunner, but not one about the art of flying.

Hehehe. That's gotta be nice ... and also remedial for the enemy: that'll learn 'em not to stay all bunched up like that. You're actually doing them a favor.

Yeah it gets really boring afterwards. I usually would kill the medic before he revives his enemy teammate out of sheer pity...

Best thing about Tanks is actually facing other Tanks (which, beleive it or not. Is the #1 job for Tanks, to take out other Armour [well for me it is]). More fun on Urban maps as there is more options available and stuff.

Ermm... yeah, I've managed to roll a tank.

Flying choppers is more about feel than anything else. It might help you to visualize what's actually going on with how a chopper flys. Basicly, you are balancing on a cusion of air. Lean in any direction and that's where you're going to be heading. With this lean, you also lose altitude.

Your best bet, really, is to hop into one in single player and just keep flying it round after round. First, just try to keep that sucker in the air. Then start trying to get places in a hurry.

When you feel comfortable moving around, start practicing stupid things. Flying between buildings, under bridges, 2 feet off the road, etc. These dumb stunts will eventually become your survival skills.

Next, practice lining up your gunner. Bots generally won't fire VTGs, but you can still practice giving 'em good shots with the cannon against infantry. You need to be able to give your gunners a nice stable firing platfrom to make the attack choppers battle-effective. This is where it gets tricky, tho. Being stable also means being a target. You need to develop a feel for how long you can stay stable before someone's going to whollop you with an AT missile or zero you in with .50 cal. For now, forget about trying to deek out AA missiles. Just drop flares when you hear the solid launch tone and bugger off.

Advanced manuvers like flipps and barrel rolls are impresive, but not that combat effective in BF2. Don't worry about 'em until you feel you've got a solid grip on everything else. The most important skills you'll develop are flying low, popping up to go stable, and breaking off.

When you're ready to try it live on-line, start with transports. After practicing in attack choppers, they will feel amazingly stable and you shouldn't have many problems. Just remember that your duty in a transport is to get the grunts from point A to point B without getting creamed. The days of using BHs as offensive weapons are gone.

Hope this helps ya get started... perty major thread derailment. :p

                            Back on topic:
Has anyone noticed that tank rounds seem to have been reduced in their power... or that maybe APCs have gotten an armour boost? I swear it only took 2 shots to set an APC on fire before, but now I find you have to hit 'em just as hard as tanks to put 'em down. I also put a shell squarely into a cobra, then switched to the top mounted .50 cal and shot it up with that... and the pilot was able to bail out before the thing exploded.

                            What's up wit dat?

Will have to connect up joystick again + practice SP.
I don't dare get wiped out yet on multi-player.

Naw, I find the mouse to be way better for choppers than a joystick. Not sure exactly why, but it's true (for me and all my BF2 playin buddies, atleast). Joysitcks rock for planes, but you're better off with the mouse for the whirlybirds.
