My opinion..what he was doing was called "grounding enemy jets"
Sniper at air strip camping fly boys is A-ok in my book..once that dude is in the air it to much of a risk to friendly armor and infantry..

secondly...scan is ass, UAV I can understand..if a commnder wants to waste a UAV on me just so he can find me, so be it...but scan should not pick up targets that arent moving.

I can play commnder, drop UAV's and "SCAN SPOT" all day and no one and I mean no one is undetechable..
Heck, even after I UAV I do scan spot..its like a personal UAV for my team..
even if Im not sure of enemies in area, just spamming the spot function will find them and track them...spamming spot is the UAV while UAV is down..go figure...

A lot of people have encountered tons of problems like this. No one gives a crap and it will never be fixed. You're in luck though because a game called Red Orchestra just came out. There are many other online battlefield type games that will be out in some months as well. The good thing about BF2 is that it has set such a low standard, no game's support will suck more. Thanks BF2!

God I love these topics, he he seriously.
Right yes your completly right, also what is the entire point of wearing a GhillieSuit if you can easily be picked up by a scanner or thermal imaging, this modern error the British military is making a GhillieSuit where they making a suit so it cannot be picked up by thermal imaging heres the info.

            http://www.defense-update.com/products/s/scs.htm
Scroll down youll the the GhillieSuit on the shooter.

I think EA should have made 2 skins for BF 2 I believe. such as a your battalions Sniper, and the normal GhillieSuit skin, but the 2nd one should look exactley like the medics skin exactley.Heres another example of a battalion sniper. the guy on the right is whom im talking about.

only relativly safe jet is the j10 as of 1.21, because it can still dodge missiles (which is a bad thing for gameplay)

If a pilot has any experience at all, he knows exactly where all AA are on a map and will kill you before you can hear him fire. AA is no threat to a decent pilot.

lets get back onto the topic ay fellas?? the ghille suit is useless at range through another snipers scope, because past a certain distance the grass and shrubbery you're hiding disappears.

Your first mistake was killing a pilot. Pilots aren't supposed to die. Learn the rules.

What you did was a good strategy. Not having the sky fall on you every 10 seconds makes the game much more fun. Sometimes you cannot get a pilot of equal skill on your side to keep them busy.

As to the red tag thing, I would guess DICE logic is that if the tag wasn't red, you would kill a teammate (probably obvious saying that). Doing away with the red tag might be impossible, but perhaps having the red tag's appearance time coincide with the amount of time you have not moved may balance it. Not going to happen, but it's nice to dream.

The red name tag should not be visable to the enemy, also your camo should slowly change to reflect your surroundings if you stop (just like a real life sniper changes the foliage in his ghillie suit to help blend in with current surroundings).

But it would probably make the sniper even more poular in a game and ruin the balance.

I agree that Dice made a dumb choice towards unreality when it put something equal to a BIG RED NEON SIGN ABOVE EVERY ENEMY. In real life there is never anyone yelling out "Hey here, you in the APC, shoot me here!!!" Which is basically what that does...
It is a nice touch sometimes though. Makes the game alot easier for everybody but those with hiding skills are scru'd.

First... noble effort on your part mate. You contributed significantly as a team member, and managed to annoy a planewhore in the process. Grats to you.

                          And now for my point.
Ghille suits do help somewhat in that you won't get seen if you're not being looked for. That's about the only advantage it offers.
I also get annoyed when I've worked my way into an advantageous position, only to have half the enemy team suddenly spin about start trying to hunt me. More often than not the result is that I'll find myself lying on my back, staring up at a pretty little UAV plane, abusing the enemy commander under my breathe.

But yeah.. ghille has its uses just outside the main combat area. Commanders won't go out of their way to plant a UAV on a single little red dot just off to the side of the main clump. Nor will the majority of commanders bother to spot you. Which just leaves the matter of not being evident to the other team, which, most of the time, isn't all that hard if you take care.

The times where you get spotted are when you show up as a single, dangerously located red blip all by its lonesome approaching whatever it is. Those little dots get spotted, UAV'd, and occasionally hit with artillery, if the commander has a jihad on you, or simply an uncommon grudge against snipers.

Moral: Don't expect to be alone in the middle of nowhere and not be detected.

You said it yourself, you have to rest the cursor over the enemy for a bit before the name comes up.

He obviously knew where you were before hand. . . probably because he asked the commander to spot you and he did. I have done that as commander on numerous occassions and I always ask to have snipers spotted.

On top of that. . . what did you learn? Guy disappears for a while and you just sat there. You should have known that he was coming to look for you. You should have hidden somewhere where he would have been unable to find you by scanning around and then let him retake the plane. . .you should have then taken the APC and nailed him everytime he tried to spawn then. :)

Sniping near enemy base is rather gay and it's quite obvious that you will be spotted if you kill someone in the cockpit and stay on the same spot. You knew how easy it is to spot a sniper (or any ground unit) in BF2 and still, you went to camp near enemy base like an idiot.

Try using some common sense while basecamping or sniping next time.

allow me to paint a picture for you...

... so I've found myself a lovely little hiding spot near the airbase from which planes have repeatedly been taking off raping my team from afar... every time one of my teammates shoots down their plane, the pilot simply respawns and takes the plane back into the air to continue his raping... this has gone on for 5-10 mins while I stealthily made my way into enemy backfield... I slowly make my way into my spot with my trusty M95 in tow. I lay down ever so quietly in a perfectly matched bush. Their pilot is flying as we speak... bombing the bejezus out of my commerades... Finally, our fighter takes him down... he respawns and sprints to the hangar to hopefully re-take to the skies...

The plane spawns... my sights are perfectly aligned to where his head will soon be in the cockpit... he jumps in, slams the afterburner and then *crackle*... he hears the cockpit glass crack milliseconds before a runaway .50 calibur bullet strikes his head... his body lay in the cockpit for several seconds before he respawns to give it another shot... he jumps in and is again pulverized inside his giant metal and glass coffin. My team is actually taking a flag now that they are not being bombed into oblivion... I slowly move to another bush while he is respawning so my position is not given away... I wait a few seconds but he is not there... Seconds later, I hear the rumble of an APC as it flies out onto the runway, its turret spinning wildly as he is no doubt rather annoyed at this point. I lay perfectly still, having switched to my knife so I don't have a large gun barrel sticking out of the bush... I see the turret go past my position several times... He starts scanning more slowly... his turret stops looking dead at me (by now I can barely see him as I have backed out behind the bush)... Seconds later, I'm barraged by APC fire and killed instantly.

What happened here? He scanned multiple times right over me and couldn't see me as I had picked the perfect bush to camoflauge myself in. I scanned the sky for a UAV and did not see one... While he was looking away, I had slipped behind the bush so there was no way he'd see me. He didn't fire on a single place on the hill but where I happened to be sitting, and when he did fire, it was perfectly accurate. A novice sniper might ask, how did he see me??? What a hacker!! But no... not I... I am a veteran to this irritating slap in the face to the stealthy sniper trying to help his team... It's happened before... In DICE/EA's INFINITE wisdom , they have programmed the game in such a way that simply resting your cursor for more than a second on enemy troops causes HUGE, UNMISSABLE RED TEXT to appear above the perfectly environment matched ghille suit that might as well say, "SHOOT HERE, HE'S OVER HERE, SHOOT ME, SHOOT ME!". So I ask any who might be able to explain this logic to me... what is the point in designing a perfect ghille suit for the sniper to wear? Why not make him wear the same uniform the rest of the team wears, or perhaps a brightly colored clown suit just in case the enemy MISSES THE RED TEXT ABOVE HIS HEAD???

                                </rant>
 , a clown suit:laugh: , that is priceless. Yes, I would have thought UAV, unless he saw you move, but yes the red tag is a give away. The same in a tank, you lay your smoke screen out, but you can still see the red tag in the smoke...... . If you are behind smoke or in smoke are behind a tree or bush, you should not be able to see a red tag.

Good detail post of a complaint. That should be fixed
