Getting good points as a sniper

I've tried both camping with my L96, and staying slightly behind the frontline picking off enemies, and still I can't get decent points whilst playing as a sniper. Sure, I can get positive K/D ratios, and I enjoy sniping, but I can never get beyond 30 points without jumping into a vehicle. I don't like claymore spamming, so that's out of the question. So, to you pro snipers out there, what are your tactics?

now we listen to rants of "pro snipers" on how hardcore they are.....

seriously, youre better off with grenades than with your sniper rifle, unless theyre more than 300 feet away.

and claymore whoring is the way that most "pro snipers" get high points.

this is partially because their only skill involves going prone, moving a mouse and clicking, complaining when they miss and get knifed because theyre too stupid to watch their back.

the best strategy is to snipe with any weapon except a sniper rifle. SCAR L, G36E, SRAW are the best for this. believe me. if you insist on sniper class, use the SVD, it beats the snot out of the rest and is actually decent.

sniper just isnt a kit you will get a lot of points with, at least not usually.

You should be less concerned with quantity and more with quality. Are you making the shots that help save your teammates from dying or prevent enemy flag captures? If so, then you're doing good work.

Hey if you like being sniper who cares about the points. Leave the point whoring to someone else and play for the love of the game !

Ok, here are some tips. I've played sniper for a while and here is how you increase your points.

Get on roof tops and place you clamore there. I got a three kill with that before.

Keep your distance and aim for the head with the M95(one shot one kill). If you get behind enemy lines, place your clamore in the back of vehicles...booby trapped.

It also depends what map you are playing.

The key thing is to aim for the head and if they are running or moving, aim a little ahead...done this all the time.....:dead: Once you kill soldier while they are moving..... it is just a rush to see them fly backwards.

Sniping is not for high points but for the joy of sneeking around making great long range shots.

Just enjoy it and don't worry about your score.

Re: Getting good points as a sniper

I play a lot of sniper and I'm happy if I make it into the 30-40 point range. Sure, you can get higher scores if you want to fly around in a jeep and just cap flags all over for the teamwork points, but then you don't get the satisfaction of ruining some infantry players day by popping them when they think they are sneaky and in the clear.

Best bet as a sniper is to kill when you can, spot all the time, defend a few flags and stay alive. Bump your K : D ratio up a bit, annoy the other team and spot out lots of armor for the chopper and jet whores on your own team.

Good stuff. I love playing sniper.

Just shoot all you can, use your claymores, hide up in buildings dont be afraid to not take a shot.

Sorry DuffMan, I'm not a "pro" sniper, but it is my favourite kit, and all I can say is that in general, it isn't a high-point scoring class. It's also quite thankless, and as we can see from IntensivCarebears comments, not liked by a lot of other players.

A good round point-wise for me is 30-40 points when playing sniper: 15 or 16 kills, kill assists, defend flag points etc. It's not a good class for capping flags, better suited to cover the guys capping. I'm sure there's exceptions, (claymore-whoring.....pilots and vehicles snipers.)

I don't play sniper for the points, they're a bonus, but I just enjoy being that sneaky, dirty sniper bastard that everyone seems to hate!:)

Re: Getting good points as a sniper

I'm not a master sniper, but nowadays I'm getting better and better with my sniper points, and I'm quite often in the top five of my team... I'm usually assigned to a squad, capture flags with them, but stay behind in the firefights and trying pick off anything that moves (especially other snipers).
-The most important thing is to stay calm. If you see someone shoooting at you, aim at his head and shoot. You'll be surprized how many people can't aim and if they do, well, bad luck.
-Intelligent claymore placing is also vital. I usually place them at flags (you get points for the kill(s) and the flag defend).
-When choosing a target, go for the easiest ones, most importantly the campers.
-The SVD is the best thing you can get (Even though I like the M24 better, nothing can beat a bolt-action rifle when it comes to feeling), it is accurate and fast. In fact, you can kill full squads with it. For some reason, I don't like the M95, I still can't hit a thing with it.
-Your knife is your friend. If you get real close, many people will freak out and miss. You've got no other choice, so its worth trying.
-Also, its good to know that sniper rifles have the same accuracy in every position, so you don't have to go prone (which makes you a perfect target for headshots). When you're standing, most people aim for your body so you've got more time to aim and defend yourself.
-Grenades are fun. Don't forget about them
-Don't go to rooftops, cranes, etc, you'll be to obvious, just move with the others and always know how to escape from your current position. Running away and hiding is not shameful.

I hope these will help :) Still, if you want serious points, go medic on a 24/7 Karkand map, or be a commander. Sniping is for fun, not for etting higher up the rankings.

Re: Getting good points as a sniper

I think the key to making good points is to spend a little time all over the map. My favorite sniping map is Sharqi. If you camp an area too long, they'll start to come looking for you or they'll ask the commander to find you or drop arty on you. However, I have a nice secret spot I like to sit at almost full time that gives me a nice overall view of a VERY busy area.

If you move around, you can also put down clays and take a flag. Use the clays effectively, and you can take the flag with no problems. Also, support your people taking a flag. Hang back and take out anyone coming after your guys and not only will you get some kills/assists, but you'll be HEAVILY thanked by your guys for helping them out!

Oh, also, you're FAR more hidden from view if you're on the ground. You look like shrubbery! I can't tell you how many times I've had enemies walk right over me while I camped a flag! (Karkand, Suburbs, walled-off section to the east, spawn point there)

Ive been playing the sniper kit ever since ive been playing BF2 and I love it. I really don't care about getting points I just love it when you get that headshot and the victim will never find out where it came from.LoL. But if you want alot of points use all the weapons available to you and try to cap some flags. And also use your pistol alot its great. Grenades or good for snipers and always use your claymores. And if you can whip that knife out and stab some bastards.LoL:) But those are some tips to get alot of points. LoL im what i call an agressive sniper, i dont really hide, I just run out there and get in people's face with the M95 and blow them to hell, LOL.
