Or people that get home from work, switch on the computer and play till 0300hrs in the morning whilst snacking on pot noodle and doritos every night.

And were meant to have respect for these players??????

Computer gaming is one of the few past times where the very best at the hobby are usually the very worst type of person you would want to know.

I'm sh*t at it by the way so I'm obviously a great bloke.
you forget about college students who play during the week.

The point system is actually fine. If you will remember the way it was initially designed when the game first came out, that was a lot more brutal. Keep in mind that the way the points are designed, you are not supposed to have all the ranks within 6 months. You are supposed to earn them over time. You are "supposed" to play this game for years to come. If you play about 4 hours a day, multiply that by 2-3 years to come.
I think that the ranks/awards are a bit too easy to get as it is.

The less time I have to play and the most weapons I can unlock is what I aim for.

I have dumped 400hrs of my life into this game, and I am about 1500points from having 50,000 points, and this in turn will give all the unlocks. In the end, that is all I care for.

All the badges are pointless to me, as I don't even care about them. Winning, getting gold, silver or bronze are the only incentives for people like me.

            PEACE

I understand that the ranks say little if anything about skill but what person with a life and a job has the insane amounts of time available required to reach certain goals in the game. I play because I enjoy it, if I gain a ribbon or medal or rank here and there than great but it should be possible to actually reach the 'top' without having to give up your life. Although I am not sure what being no 1 really means?

Re: Upper Ranks too out of reach?

I think the 20000 to 50000 gap is way too big. It doesn't make sense how the rank after that is at 60000.

Re: Upper Ranks too out of reach?

I have some probs with certain award requirements, but, as for the rank/point system on the whole, I don't have much of a problem with it. One of the main reasons I play BF2 as much as I do is that the award system and rank system gives me something to shoot for, something to achieve. It gives the game replay value for me. There is always some award or rank to earn.

I dont like the fact that the gaps between certain ranks are not well thought up. I prefer a system where the points to the next rank is always about double the points needed for the previous rank. LCPL 500 CPL 1000 SGT 2000 etc etc.

Re: Upper Ranks too out of reach?

Ok, let me get this thread back on track, I think we're straying a bit from my original question.

Yes, I think the upper ranks require too much time to achieve, but what I'm really annoyed with is that I've been playing this game since the day it came out and still I don't have access to all the unlocks. Like I said, I'm dying to get the new sniper rifle or the new Assault weapon, etc, but I can't 'cause I still have about another 15,000 points to go before I reach 50,000. And even then, I understand that I'll only get to unlock 1 more weapon.

So, I think we should get the unlocks sooner. After that, I don't care about achieving the super high ranks. I just want a larger choice of weapons to keep the game fresh and fun.

Well getting the unlocks gives you something to work for. With me...I don't have anything to work for anymore, since i frankly don't care about ranks. Sure I'm 2nd Lt now...but oooo big deal lol. I kind of wish the new officer ranks gave you something new to unlock, like new pistols or something.

I have a job and a life as well, so I understand your point. But the game is designed with playing for "years" in mind. Along these lines, several "kids" with no job, wife, girlfriend, responsibilities financial or otherwise can sit thee and play for ever. I really dont mind the way it is now. In fact, it would have been nice to be able to keep the old ranking system that was available when the game was first released. I dont care too much for earning medals, unlocks, ribbons, whatever. THose of you that say you only play for fun and dont care about anything else, start hitting some of the unranked servers. You can have your unlocks and play a wide variety of maps made by some of the most talented map makers in any game ever.
