Upper Ranks too out of reach?

So, I've been playing Battlefield 2 since the day it came out, and I've been happy with the first round of unlocks. But ever since Special Forces came out, with the new round of unlocks, I'm dying to try them, but it seems to be taking me forever to get to the next rank in order to get the unlock.

Is it just me, or do the higher ranks (I'm Master Sergeant currently) just seem out of reach, meaning that most of us don't have insane amounts of time to devote to ranking up. Do any of you think that there are too many points required for the upper ranks?

I want to get the new unlocks, but I have a life too, and I can't be sitting on BF2 24 hours a day in order to rank up and get an unlock.

That is wierd that you dont have the SF unlocks with that high of a rank. I am a First Sergeant and I have all but two unlocks. In order to get the SF unlocks you need to have, and installed it, and you should automatically be granted those unlocks.

Agreed, achieving the points needed of the upper ranks requires you to give up any life you might have had.

Im only at 2500 points, and I think getting to 5000 is ridiculous....

So? Just play and have fun - the upper ranks aren't for everybody and us people with insane amounts of time to spend playing need something to strive for as well. It doesn't make the game any more enjoyable being a high rank and for most people their are only a few unlocks you'll use on a regular basis, all of which are easily obtained during the lower ranks.

If the highest ranked player is currently a Colonel then you can't say they are out of reach.

The game wasn't designed so we'd have thousands of generals running around.

exactly! if you do not play that much maybe a few hours per week or something - then why do you expect to be a high rank -the poeple who play a lot should be higher ranks than peopel who do not play a lot! simple really.

Unlock the support weapon first.. then watch the snipe video.. copy that and you'll soon be an uber pointer queen. I have held of massive onslaughts all by my lonesome with this weapon racking up points in seconds.

But no stat paddin eh cough cough.

The only qualm I have is the gap between ranks at 20k up to 50k.

The ranks are thick and fast after that. I know a few people who have left the game due to getting ****ed about the long haul between 20 and 50k.

I don't think they are out of reach at all. If you're a good player you earn points pretty quick and thus advance fairly fast. If you really cannot move a foot without getting knifed, well it'll take you longer, lol.

It's all about skill. No, not bragging, my stats don't warrent bragging, just saying th obvious.

That gap almost carries with it emotional states of mind,
20k-30k "It'll take a million years to get to 50k"
30-40K "This game is boring"
40-50k "Must kill everyone!"

I think it is a bit pointless to have the last two unlocks at 50k, why shouldnt you have all the weapons available sooner, its not like it would make a huge difference.
Also i think the point of ranks is to denote the (supposed) abilitys of a player, which works well with the lower and upper ranks but the mass grouping of players at first/master srgt level seems pointless.
The upper ranks are achievable and the gaps are in easier bite sized chunks after 50k, i like that they are not easy to get to and require more than a few hours of play (although 1400 hours in vehicles is a little insane).

I wish corpral was still 10,000. I perfer the older ranking system.

Agreed, 20-50k then it'sonly 10k to 2lt !? who thought that one up.
