The 30 Second Play Clock - Artillary

Artillary is by far the thing that most destroys game play.

You run half way across the map and finally get into a good battle....BOOM!! - End of Fun

Respawn close to battle - spend 10 seconds running to position - play for 20 seconds....BOOM!! - End of Fun

Respawn - get to battle scene - Your own commander kills all you targets with Arty - Not to worry, 20 seconds later....BOOM!! - End of Fun

You must hate it when you get shot too. Killed by a tank? Bombed by a plane? Run over by a jeep? Blown up by a grenade?

Artillery is awesome and adds to the intensity of a situation when it is raining down on your head. There are dozens of other ways to be killed. Artillery is no different.

I don't mind unmanned artillery as a concept, but I hate the implementation.

      I'd make one simple change:
Commanders can only fire artillery if a Squad Leader has requested it. The SL spots the target with a (to be added) laser designator.

Yep, that's what artillery is for... maybe you should hold back and wait for the artillery to fall before you move in... it's pretty damned obvious that artillery is going to fall in areas that are highly contested.

Arty as it is now is crap, any idiot (which tends to be the case the majority of the time) can use it.

            DC arty forever!

I hate supply crates more.. at least artillery makes sense; a supply crate is just a magical box that heals refills and repairs, what the f*** is that about?

Can you point and click, and your grenade instantly aims to a location and obliterates it? Or perhaps point and click, and your jeep flies there? I don't think so, at least not until a couple more patches when they nerf the game a little more.

The artillery is pathetic, and is simply there for that cool factor that only elementary school students would consider cool. They had the artillery perfect in BF1942. They were just as devastating as they needed to be, but they required either hours of practice and memorization to use, or the help of 1 or more teammates to operate. Now it's someone who skips school to get a higher rank that can point and click, and that's it. No aiming, no thinking, just mindlessly clicking and destroying an area.

I don't care if they go back to the 1942 style or keep the current style. Either way, it needs to exist.

Yes, it doesn't take a genius to click an area and drop arty, but they call the game 'modern combat' for a reason. It includes artillery strikes.

I don't mind artillery in BF2, it's artillery in SF thatmost annoys me, completely destroys the whole concept of the expansion.

I actually like that idea, but doubt it will ever happen unless everyone whines about it. That's how you get things changed in this game, get a few people to whine and they'll make a patch to change it.

If you don't aim or think when using arty, I suspect you don't use it very well.

But anyway. I like and dislike the arty. It doesn't really kill me all that often and it is rare that I will die twice in a row by it and I think I may have only died 3 times in-a-row by it once. . . so it is not like it totally breaks the game.

However, I do hate that I can't hunker down in a position and hold it because I am always afraid an arty is going to drop on my head.

But it does break up stalemates and it isn't like it hits right when it is fired. . .so it isn't that easy to uses I don't mind it all that much.

The way a medic can magically bring someone back to life who just got a 50cal through the head... the way a medic can heal any wound you have with a magical bag of medicine... I mean, heck, why not, when playing the medic class, have healing be some sort of bandage, tourniquet, stitching mini-game?

Get over it man, it's just a game.

Also, wow, there is arty in special forces? Now I'm REALLY glad that I didn't pick it up!

And where do the foward observer, calculations, the gun crew, and all of them come into place? The game may be set a couple years in the future, but I don't believe automatic artillery is going to be around for quite some time. BF1942's artillery model was much closer to modeling artillery without taking away from gameplay from having the play do seperate calculations and such.

Artillery encoruages players to play solo and work away from the main team because as soon as more than 3 people gang together to do soemthing they have it rain on their head.

It takes no real skill to use and tactically it doesn't really add anything to the game, its just a rain of death of the unlucky group of people who happen to be in the biggest bunch.
