Dude, their not even doing well with BF2 patching. I dont expect them to even be working on a new project before getting all the things right in BF2

As far as I can tell, DICE have two separate development teams. DICE Sweden created BF2. They then handed it over to DICE Canada who are doing all the add-ons and patches.

DICE Sweden are no longer working on BF2. You can bet your bottom dollar that they're building DICE's next big thing.

Some good points here Wargimp.

Guns (modern fire arms) are familiar to people, thus they are more likely to accept them. Ever watch the new Battlestar Galactica? Notice a lack of any kind of magical beam weapons?

I suspect that the BSG people felt that laser weapons and the like were too cliched. Seeing slug throwers used in a space battle had a big impact. It made the whole thing seem more gritty, more thoughtful and a bit different.

Personally, I _don't_ think I reacted this way 'cos slug throwers are more familiar to me. I've been thinking about practical space combat for years. It seems to me that missiles and slug throwers are inevitable. Particle weapons will be useful as long as someone can make them powerful enough.

One thing you might have missed is that many gamers like to see real, "cutting edge" hardware in their games. I think this is why BF2 has more appeal than BF1942 and why it will have more appeal than a BF2142. Time will tell though.

Might sound like an expansion............
but BF2 could stay BF2...only entirely new textures/meshes statics all kinds of goodies... and call it.

BF3 American Soil
Fighting in NYC.
Niagra Falls.
Las Vegas.
Nuclear Plant.
Washington DC.
Grand Canyon.
Border Patrol (fought around cali, andmexian borders)
And an Air Map, where the battle takes place within a 747, for control of the nuclear, ill ridden flight.
I dont know i think the majority of folks want to fight on familiar grounds. And the terrain has to be as nice as the map, and the playability of the game.
In other words, sights and sounds within the map, on American Soil.

hmmm bf2014. Is it still produced by DICE ?
So what are we expecting ? Maybe this will be written on the box :

At the back in a small box of the April edition of PC gamer it has this anounce ment. Is this possible evidence of BF2014 or whatever there calling it?

I think this is more likely to be a movie...

I wouldn't buy some futuristic shooter BF.. I got quake4 and hated it, and really, how much different would bf1000000000000000 be to bf2? The last thing you need is to spawn at your uncap, only to have some tosser in his 2 storey planetbuster pr4wn you with his nuclear reaper cannon.. or some whack **** like that.

And just between you an me, I'm sick of floating tanks and walkers..

When I saw that video, I thought of a Mechwarrior/Ut2k4 game and "boooooo" ran through my head.

It's supposedly BF:2042 - mechs are a bit more plausible.

Tangentially, I don't think walkers are all that practical a platform for a combat vehicle. Taking your longest dimension and facing it directly towards the enemy goes against all the trends in armoured vehicle design since they first appeared. The 'chest' area alone would be an enormous target and difficult to armor effectively - how do you slope it?

EDIT: Right 2142 that's what i meant to say.
