Re: Is the Essex gun balanced?

1 Essex vs 1 Stinger = very unbalanced
1 Essex vs Many stingers that you have at your disposal = better balance

and before you say it, yes I know there are two Essexes (say that ten times fast) but it seems like most people don't know that and barely use the one that they have.

I would say that the Essex actually helps the overall balance of maps that have carrier (especially ones where that is one of your only choices to spawn at the beginning). If you spawn on the carrier, you have very few places to run so having a good defence is critiacal. If you want to get off the carrier you have few options including jets (wait in line and hope I don't get TKed by a 12 year old), transport chopper (flying coffin), attack chopper (slightly faster flying coffin) or a boat (floating coffin).

All I really have to suggest is that if it really bugs you, switch teams next round.

Another thing to note is that the Essex guns are on a ship, while all the other team's uncappables (such as Dalian or Oman) are land bases. On land bases you can get away using tanks, jeeps, and APCs. From the Essex you either have to take an air vehicle which would probably get creamed upon takeoff if the enemy jets were buzzing around like vultures, or you have to take the RIB-o-death to shore. So yeah, the Essex is perfect. No reason for enemy aircraft to be around there in the first place and if they are they deserve to get chewed up. Like someone else mentioned, they should have more armour, though. 1-2 seconds of vulcan fire and they're gone.

It is too powerful really. Compared to a normal stinger.

Re: Is the Essex gun balanced?

          Honestly you guys.

Take it from a pilot who has spent the past 4 days constantly waging war with essex gunners.

It takes about 5 seconds of jet cannon fire to kill the gun.

And There are two essex guns in close proximity to each other while 90% of the time there is only ONE stinger guarding the main airfield on the land.

I would say that the Essex actually helps the overall balance of maps that have carrier (especially ones where that is one of your only choices to spawn at the beginning). If you spawn on the carrier, you have very few places to run so having a good defence is critiacal. I agree with the above post for the most part.

However, the argument that most people don't use the second one is pointless, if you have an overpowered weapon and don't use it doesn't mean its not overpowered.

I just want a slight HP decrease maybe 20%.

That is, in comparison to the Stinger that the side that spawns on the land uses....

I don't have official numbers but:

            Essex-

-Highly armored in comparison to stinger
            -8 missiles
            -Poweful cannon
            -Wide fields of fire
-If destroyed has a timer to respawn and can be repaired back to life
-Takes about 5 seconds of jet cannon fire to destroy

            Stinger-

            -Zero armor
            -2 missiles
            -No cannon
            -Sometimes small fields of fire.
-If destroyed, has a timer to respawn
-Takes about 1 second of jet cannon fire to destroy

            Is that balanced to you?

Personally I think that it should take less time to destroy i.e. less HP.
5 seconds of jet cannon fire? Not really...it only takes me about 2 seconds of jet cannon fire to destroy the Essex gun, if that.

No I don't think so. I dunno I start firing from a long way off, so maybe im just not adjusting for the bullet drop...

Or maybe its diff for diff maps.

Re: Is the Essex gun balanced?

Five seconds of cannon fire? A vulcan cannon can take it down in two seconds or less of sustained fire. Just look at PW's last video, he blows up one of the Essex guns twice and each time it took about two seconds to do.

Sounds like you need to stop trying to baserape the carrier, mate.

Exactly...we have a carrier baseraper looking for support to make his raping easier

Re: Is the Essex gun balanced?

The Essex gun needs to be more powerful, not less. It's unbalanced compared to the much stronger planes. It's a plain view fixed position death trap against a pilot with some practice. I don't have anough time in the Essex gun to be sure, but I think even if the gun is pointed straight at the plane once it comes into view, the plane can drop flares while firing the cannon, and the gun doesn't have much of a chance. In fact, some pilots might be able to hit it before it even comes into view for them, thanks to the big flag icon over the carrier giving them a visual reference at any range.

When I'm flying against the USMC when they have a carrier, you can be damn sure I'm aware of where I'm flying, and if I'm pursuing someone towards the carrier, I'll break the hell off. (Unless I'm really mad at the other pilot, and I'll risk it, but I dont expect to fly away alive)

It's an uncappable spawn that only has 3 ways off: Flying (limited space), boats (juicy targets) or swimming (I think I'de rather just not play than spend 5+ minutes swimming to/from anything.). The carrier has to be able to provide decent enough covering fire to get its troops near land. Once there they can deal with the 3 tanks, 4 jeeps, and hungry-hungry helos while the essex gunner scans the skies.

Damn right it's purpose is to protect the carrier from baserapin' jetjocks.
