Played several rounds on Strike at Karkand yesterday (in 1.2) and was killed quite a few times by someone who was beyond visual range 100 %, I could barely see something that looked like a muzzle flash.
It was a headshot every time and I was running and jumping around while I was shot. Either this player was extremely good or it was a glitch or quite possible a no-fog hack.

You don't need to bring it into the game if you know what the game packets look like. You just code your cheat app to inject custom "shooting" packets onto the network. Essentially a man-in-the-middle expoloit. There are probably various countermeasures for this coded into BF2 though.

this thread is starting to sound like a,

"i know how to cheat, can cheat, and can make cheats" thread.
              Yucky.

It's called "know your enemy". You have to understand how the cheats work in order to be able to identify them. You can't just go "omg that guy hit me in the head while I was jumping, HAXX!~".

I posted a thread not long ago about receiving kills I could not possibly have made, maybe this is related?

That's bringing it into the game. Whether you are injecting it or hooking it, your still bringing your desired inputs into the game. They are already doing injection for this game, and I'm sure someone is probably already hooking into directx or other various parts of the game by now. If you really want to take the time to do some packet sniffing and figure out what parts of the crap you want to manipulate, that is fine, but hooking it would be alot easier. But this isn't really a discussion about how to make cheats anyways, just if aimbots do/can exist for this game.

Other than the server overriding some functions, the only cheat protection that BF2 has on it's own, is Pure Mode. PunkBuster takes care of crap that is residing in memory.

If you're injecting packets then only the server should need to be aware of it. That means if you consider "the game" to be what you see via your client, no you don't have to bring it directly into the client. If you consider "the game" to the range of memory on the server where the BF2 server instance resides, then yes the injected packets must register here in order to have any effect. The advantage of a man-in-the-middle type setup is the client will be completely unaware of it and thus tools like PB will be unable to see it.

The reason nobody has really bothered with it is because there are easier ways to do it. And it doesn't matter if you see it or not, it still makes it injecting it into the game. I've heard people say the same things your saying in games of the past 'I could reverse engineer it and send packets to make it do this', and yes you can, but that is alot more complex than it needs to be. I mean, that would be alot of work to go out sniffing packets and then disassembling them then putting them back together with new information in them and trying to send them back out, yah, you can do it that way if you wanted to, but it is more of a pain in the ass than the other ways that people do it.

For one, all your hit detection takes place server side, otherwise you end up with the finger of death for bf2. Someone did that to another persons mod in UT, they made a zeroping mod, let the client tell the server when you shot someone, well, this guy just went and worked it so that whenever he shot, it told the server he headshotted everyone. So because the server says whether you shot someone or not, you have to do alot more than just send packets saying you nailed the guy in the noggin, it takes into direction your facing and all that crap.

Hell, you could take the python script and edit it on the server side to have a private aimbot on your own public server that only you can use, if you really wanted, who needs a middle man. There are tons of ways to do it that wouldn't get caught, but again, this is just a discussion on whether the **** exists or not anyways.

tonight i was getting killed with one shot. another guy was going prone getting up and doing the rolling animation thing over and over again and usually it take a couple of seconds to get up from prone but not this guy while shooting and killed me. sometimes this stuff is very supicious

Don't be ignorant. A hacking fool gets just as much enjoyment from scoring high as a legit player. Tell me, do you think the tanker who spawn rapes with his uber machine gun or the pilot who carpet bombs defensless infantry don't enjoy their kills? Do you not enjoy your kill when you sneak up and knife an unsuspecting sniper. How is it any different that a cheater out shooting you? I'm sorry but all this "OMG, what an idiot... is them cheaters such loozers that they like have to cheat to make up for their inferiority complex!!1111one" nonsense makes sick. And EVERYONE loves to jump on that wagon when it starts rollin'

I think , most people who think somebody cheat
are just getting ownd, by some good player.

But yes, there are cheats around here for bf2.

But don't think if you get a headshot, somebody cheat, because with some guns, it's very easy to give a headshot fast in singel shot mode or burst mode.

also the m162 in burst mode can kill you in one time,
if it in the right hands.

Hit your crouch key and your up instantly, no delay.
