Its the fact that the ESSEX is a very powerfull defense for the carrier and a commander (who is actually commanding, screen open) sitting in it makes it a useless weapon.

That is why people waiting around in jets should operate the guns. If not, then you should. There are many servers that frown on the commander sitting in a vehicle, it tends to distract them from their primary "kit" which would be commander.
As for the commander score, I never knew it was calculated that way. It's weird because I have ended up with the highest score before the X 2 for the win. Weird.
