i supppose if you look at it this way yoou are right:
"AT is one of those kits that goes from pointless to overpowering when you combine 2-3 players using it."
i just wish there was some way to drill that into the heads of most pub players. most are complete idiots. our entire team is being suppressed by 2 APCs and a tank yet i look on the rooster and i am the only AT guy. they keep spawning as medic, support, etc. you can even yell at them 'ffs someone else spawn AT' yet none listen. its like they have some aversion to playing as AT.
perhaps its time i started looking for a clan, or at least played on a clan server and asked them to let me into their AT squad.

"also, the AT weapon is very good against infantry when you know how to use it, and in close combat when having the DAO , you are UBER ."

it can be effective med/far range and somewhat makes up for the lack of aa primary weapon at those ranges. close range, sometimes im getting ready to take a shot at armor and im suprised by infantry running around the corner. i dont have time to switch to the DAO so ill shoot the AT rocket at their feet. 1/2 the time they take no damage at all - the hit detection on the AT rocket is horrid.

i had this funny as hell experience the other night. i was driving a tank on karkand and some PKM-wielding idiot runs into the middle of the street, flops on his belly and starts shooting full auto at my tank with the PKM. i actually let him do it for like 3-4 seconds because i was so in shock that someone could be so stupid. i lined up my turret on him and just watched in amazement....then blasted him 30 feet in the air with a direct shot :)
just goes to show how overpowered the PKM is now... all these PKM-whoring noobs who never once played the support class before 1.2 are so used to the weapon being overpowered they think they can take out tanks with them.
I have no problems against skilled tank drivers. Alone or in a group.

Some regular nades would be a good addition. It is the only kit without them.

Now, a Hummer taking a rocket to the grill...it probably should instantly explode but it won't.
Wait, you tell this man not to you use reality as a basis for logic in BF2... yet you use "Black Hawk Down" to make a point about realistic conditions?

        ...you're kidding right?

I think the class is quite balance and the addition of the P90 is part of it.
I do just fine with it mainly because I know and understand both it's limitations and what it was meant to do for the class.
Every one else who complains about it is just using it wrong OR expected it to be some uber unlock.
It's not an assault class weapon people. Stop using it like one.

            omfg.
the P90 is a POS. it is inferior to the default SMGs.
i reallly dont care if you 'do just fine with it'. the fact is that with the same skill you would do better using the default SMG. which makes the unlock a worthless POS.

            MP5 =
            1.5x as much ammo carried
            1.5x rate of fire
            faster reload time
half the draw time - which makes all the difference between you pulling it out in time while youre holding an empty ERYX or laying on your back staring at the sky. the MP5 has the fastest draw time in the game.
exact same deviations except for 0.1 more dev standing/crouching/prone

the MP5 is hands-down a superior weapon. considering that pre-1.2 the SMGs were the most pitiful weapons thats saying a lot.
the P90 has a 50 round clip. woohoo. it takes you twice as long to draw it and 1.5 times as long to kill anything with it than if you were armed with the MP5, and the MP5 is already pretty weak compared to the assault rifles nearly every other class carries. with its rediculously slow draw time and slow ROF you will be dead long before you can use up your 50 round clip.

Whatever. Post as many numbers as you want.
I do better with the P90 than I do with the Default SMG with the same skill level.
The numbers are crap. They don't mean a thing and they don't add up.
I still stick with the fact that people are using it wrong.

sure, numbers like half the rate of fire and double the draw time couldnt possibly have any in-game significance.
nor could thhe entire AT community, with a few exceptions, denouncing it as a POS. apparently we all suck and just havent learned to master the P90 like you have.

Yea, I'm afraid you're just wrong. I'm sorta glad that you love the gun so much, but that doesn't make it any less awful. Most people will agree with me.

i think that some people are just fans of certain guns IRL, and regardless of how they are implemented in the game or their stats they will swear by them. it might be a subconscious thing in that they like the gun so much that they convince themselves its better. perhaps that confidence actually translates into better performance ingame due to some alteration in their playing style as a result. who knows. IRL the P90 is a fine weapon (although it was designed for vehicle crews, so it really should be in an engineer's arsenal instead). the ingame implementation of it is poor.
if you are a good player, you will kick ass with any weapon in the game - even the pistols, but that hardly makes them good weapons.
the only reason to use the P90 is, IMO, to further embarass your victim by driving home that fact that you not only killed him, but you killed him with the crappiest gun in the game. make a P90-only character that hunts PKM-whores :)

the fact remains that the gun takes 2x as long to draw, and 1.5 times as long to kill anything - and this is going to get you killed.
sure if you spend your time with the P90 always drawn, zoomed, in single shot mode plinking at players at long range then the P90 may perform marginally better than the MP5. but thats not the way AT is usually played, and if thats what youre doing youd be much better off switching to spec ops instead.
besides, if someone starts plinking at me with that 19dmg POS i have ample time to move, or just pull out my vastly more powerful weapon and waste him.
if the gun ignored armor like IRL it would be more balanced yet still not overpowered. right now youre doing 19dmg to unarmored, but only 12 dmg to armored players.
ive taken more dmg than that from sprinting players bumping into me. you could stub your toe running down some stairs and take twice that dmg.

I'm surprised I'm the only one to mention the firing lag for rockets. That aspect really kills me as it means more time for the target to evade the rocket, more time that I'm exposed to enemy fire, and more time to connect with the rocket so I can reload a new one.

I think he was refering to the kits balance. this is about the kit, not the glitchy rocket launcher.

Ive done this, and almost died laughing when like three other players saw the kill message and said "Owned!" in as many different ways.

                                That was satisfying.

I play as AT more than any other class and I completely agree with the initial suggestions. I am particularly fond of the smoke grenade idea, that never occured to me before, but it really does make sense.
