The m16 is an awesome gun. The g36e is flatout better than it with no trade offs. That's messed up. The only reason it isn't the best gun in the game is the terrible job done balancing the PKM.
I've had the same experience as the OP but I'm not ready to say its overpowered yet - its the only weapon I haven't yet unlocked. Been killed in one burst by the 36E several times while playing spec ops or engineer.
All in all, the G36E is significantly better than the M16A2: more accurate, more damage, and less of a deviation penalty for burst fire. This isn't to say that the M16A2 is bad; on the contrary, it's a favorite of mine when I play assault. It's just that whereas the M16A2 is good, the G36E is great. In my opinion, it gave the medic a somewhat unfair advantage in v1.12, as a class that logically should be weak in combat (relatively) receives one of the best rifles in the game.
But v1.2 is a very different thing from v1.12. In v1.12, the classes with inaccurate weapons (engineer, support, AT) had a clear disadvantage to those with rifles (assault, medic, special ops). The inaccuracy of the sniper rifles made it easier for the three automatic rifle classes to deal with them. So the G36E was taking an already powerful class, in both its combat abilities and teamwork attributes, and making it more powerful, and that was stupid as far as I'm concerned.
But with the revamped sniper rifles, LMGs, and SMGs, the auto rifle classes no longer have the dominant role they used to, so the relative strength of the G36E has dropped drastically.
I don't find the G36E to be overpowered, though. It's almost identical to the M16, and I still use the M16 when I'm USMC medic (although I mostly prefer the G36E over the AK101 so if I'm MEC I use it).

I used to think that way, but as MEC I pick up every M16 I come across, and unfortunately I find both the accuracy and damage of the M16 to be inferior. Sure, skill can make up fo that, but by default I strongly believe the G36E is quite possibly the best weapon in the game. I take 4 people on at once with it and survive. Calm, careful aiming of this gun is just.. Unstoppable.

Well to me they feel pretty much the same, such to the point that I don't bother even choosing it as USMC. But a lot of people swear by it so whatever works for them. Although now the flavour of the month is PKM so the G36E isn't getting the notariety it once did.
I always played spec ops pre 1.2 cos i loved the dual role capabilities,ie kill tanks and infantry easily. However, now theyve nerfed the C4 i found myself looking for a new class. I stumbled across the g36e and couldnt believe it, its awesome. I never was much for controlled shooting so i enjoyed full auto weapons, but no longer cos i play medic all the time now and i love it. This weapon has given my bf2 gameplay a whole new lease of life, i can play city maps with confidence now, wish i had used it earlier.
hi all, i am a medic most of the time and i dont think we have the advantage, because of the burst fire as someone else said. if you walk round a corner and find someone there with a fully auto gun you will die most of the time because he/she will unload a full clip by the time you get off 6 rounds. It is a very good gun and if it was like the spec ops (fully auto) i would agree with medics having the advantage, that is if i did not run round with my shock paddles out at the wrong time, lol.

Shock Paddles are great for killing people though. They have a longer range than knives and in almost never fail, unlike the knife... I once stabbed a sniper three times (!) in the back on the head (With smoke and all that coming out) and he wouldn't die. Then I just Shock Paddled him, worked first time. I've gotten quite a few kills by charging at an enemy with shock paddles too.
i pretty much only use the g36e and i have become so accustom to it that my kills go way down if i use anything else (other than g36c, which i dont think is as good but very close). hands down the best gun in the game in my opinion.
