My guide to playing as commander, maybe you should read it and learn something, from reading your 'guide', all i see is you abusing the role of commander to support yourself in game

      Re: Realistic Commander guide

Yeah... when I'm commanding, it's all about my guys. I want 'em to do the work, score the points, kick arse.

I usually lay low someplace inconspicous, but near something vital. I'll move to take out a solo capper, but usually if the CP I'm close to is going to get rolled, I'll wait for 'em to leave before sneaking in to take the flag back (no one ever hangs around for very long).

I prefer to spend my time spoting enemies that are near squads, but outside of UAV range. Drop supplies for armour along their route to attack so they can get a repair/reload on the way.

As for artty, I prefer to use it to take out snipers, AA emplacements, and other threats to my guys. They aren't likely to move and might not be viable targets for the ground pounders... so shell 'em. I also fire off volleys at flags that are under threat. It's hella amusing to get a shot off at a flag that's undefended and about to be swamped by little red dots, before the badguys get there. This way, you don't lose the flag and since everyone rushes in to get their cap points, you can cause some good ticket damage.

Give orders is something I'll generally only do if a squad has requested or expressed interest in them. When I do get a squad that's willing/able to follow orders, I love sending 'em bopping around the map hitting all the totally undefended flags the enemy always seems to leave. Quick 'n easy points for the squad, better chance of bleeding the enemy and winning for the team.

As to vehicle asset use, I try to avoid it unless my team has done something silly like left a tank laying around at a base waiting for enemies to come steel it. In SF, I love my ATVs tho! I'll usually find one right at the start of the round and just book right outta there. Find someplace close to the edge of the map to hide (preferably sheltered to ward off in coming artty). I know I can boot back to where ever I need ta go in fairly short order if it's really called for and as an engie, I only have to drive around my own assets to get 'em back up and running (would still rather that someone else do it, but it beats using supply drops).

Oh... bastagely commander trick: Go Special Opps and put C4 (one 1) on your OWN assets. This way when some guy comes in to blow 'em, you blow him! Better yet, drop c4 near your assets, then call down a supply crate on top of it. You know he's gonna go for that box... so give him a little suprise.

you can. If a tank/APC is avalible, USE IT and drive to the front line!
I would just like to thank you for making that your first point, it saved me the trouble of reading the rest of your post. There's few things more annoying than wading half way through a completely useless post because you hope it's going to get better, but leading off with a statement like that is great because it immediately tells the reader "Move along, nothing to see here." Thanks again.

Anyone who tk's for any vehicle needs to be banned from the game. PERIOD. How would anyone learn how to use a certain vehicle if total uber l337 gamers like yourself felt the need that you HAD to have that vehicle. The most noobish thing in the entire game to do is tk for a vehicle.

The only way I would take a tank into combat as commander if the tank was just sitting there for a few minutes and nobody was using it. Afterward still take as many breaks as possible to not only use the uav for myself but the team. I'd analyze the field and decide if placing the uav for me is the best choice at the time as opposed to the other teammates at another very important flag.

            Re: Realistic Commander guide

I appreciate that you're trying to get the team to win, but your logic is fractured. mainly, your whole guide was basically telling commanders to be supermen, using the commanders resources to help them kill more enemies. and people DO (amazingly enough) care about flags. i dont know if you've ever noticed that little flashing that happens to your ticket counter when an enemy owns over half the control points. thats ticket depletion my friend. AKA non-stop ticket loss. unless you stop tank whoring and drop your artillery somewhere thats more tactically viable than "Theres lots of guy over there! they must die!" that depletion will probalby account for more damage to your team than the enemy comander could inflict in the same time. Oh yea, and what happens if you die on the front lines? like you told all the other commanders to do? go rushing off to the front lines. a dead commander is a useless commander. Your team loses the benefit of your abilities for those 17 seconds.

After actually reading through it, the only thing i can actually fully agree with imo is that its about winning, and not about points.

However you then go on to contradict that, especially as you've barely played more than 3 hours on any map other than karkand

Actually, all teh time I've palyed, I have NEVER initiated kick votes.

Neither do I initiate mutiny votes at the beginning, allways give the commander a chance.

                Also mutiny almost never works.

If the team is good and doing their job, I'd leave everything to them, tanks, everything.

I would baricade myself at teh base with AT mines and command.

But sometimes you have to do it yourself.

Hmmm....commanding or looking after your own arse?????????

A good commander should be busy commanding at all times, spotting, UAV, supplies, scanning (how about talking to the teams?). You get an opportunity every 30 seconds or so to do one of these so when you get chance to Rambo around the map?

Thanks for letting me know how you command, gives me chance to join the otehr team in the future.

Depends on the situation FFS. If my team consitsts of n00bs, I'll take things into my own hands, if they're good, i'd leave it to them.

                        common sense

                            Ironic? Naw. He's either:

I agree with your guide except I defend my main base instead of fighting on the front lines. Otherwise it is a great guide for a new commander.
