Gah... I hope you find a good server full of good people who play for the sake of fun and teamwork then. I myself have seen too many people whoring and TK-Whoring (I.e- teamkilling indiscriminately to get the vehicle/aircraft/helo), and they p1ss me off to high heaven, because all they want the helo for is to spawn-rape enemy points (i.e, sharqi peninsula TV station, and etc), and for the sake of points and points only. But to the good times, I've had some of the greatest pilots and the greatest gunners.

I ALWAYS spot, no matter what, sometimes, even if a helo/jet is on our six- I'll hit the 'c' key to get the rear view and try to spot, or at least tell the pilot where the b@stard is.

As with piloting, I learn from the best. Cheers to the fella who taught me to fly in the under-passage under the Kubra Dam; it has come in so very useful for out-maneuvering enemy helos/AA missiles and jets.

When I'm pilot- I always support the ground-force. Sometimes it's silly being locked in a helo-battle all the time, so I tend to stay away from the frequented fly-zones, and simply render my assistance to repel and eliminate enemy vehicles/infantry while a team squad is attempting to capture an enemy point. Plus- it is a very very satisfying, and mutually warm feeling when you fly behind/alongside a contingent of friendly units (like an escort); you know you're all watching over each other :) .

I've had helo save me from incomming vehicles, incomming masses of enemies and enemy incomming helos also, thus I feel a duty to return that by doing so myself whenever I fly.

Best chopper save I can remember was in Sharqi. I was shooting it out with a n00bt00bing USMC, and I run out of ammo. But lo and behold! The wreckage of a cobra comes down from the sky and flattens the bastard

I always play like that if im a chopper pilot. Someone calls out armor, skinnies or anything to kill, i'm on it. I usually fly as support or engie and try to feed our ground troops with a few low fly bys.

It's funny, alot I get guys in the chopper who never use the TV guided missle, they just shoot at a tank with the turret, it never takes them out only gives our position away.

Hehe, yeah. I usually fly as a medic since it's a good way to ward off possible death by M95, but I always love to have an engie onboard.

Coming in low to fix a friendly tank is always apresiated. If you're lucky, he might be an engie too and you can get some fixin in return.

I also try to make low flyovers of assets to get 'em back up and running.

Whenever I fly, i try to provide close air support to my groundpounding buddies, nothing better than lighting up a tank concentrating on trying to kill the infantry (well, maybe killing a chopper that is oblivious to you)

it has happened a couple of times.
the best one though was when I was playing on wake, I was just cruzing round in my dune buggy running PLA troops over at airfield when I ran straight into the side of an enemy tank that was on the other side of a building. I reversed as he swung his gun at me, and gave out a "Im :censored: "
when BOOM the tank blew up and our Attack chopper flew over my head.

No. Only 1 out of every 100 pilots actually considers it his duty to support his team. The rest just want a higher score.

this is true, i gun so rarely yet when i do the pilot thinks his missiles are the greatest thing in the game and tries to kill everything in sight with them. As such i usually end up piloting (im a fast loader) and my ideal situation is that I dont have to fire a shot and my gunner kills everything. maybe thats just me but i know that it sucks when the pilot flies for himself rather than his gunner

I have very few kills as a chopper pilot, i normally sit back a bit just behind our advance and let the gunner take out targets with the tvgms and the guns. if they're useless, i'll loop a bit and they'll normally bail. then i try for a better gunner

I think by example of some of these negative posts, explains why the chopper gets so little love even if it's friendly. It's reputation/respect for it is ruined by smacktard pilots who only point whore.

It's too bad Dice couldn't come up with a better way to enforce/encourage chopper support in the point system. Basically those bad pilots are the way they are because BF2 awards selfish play in a helo more than it awards teamplay.

Bad player communiuty and bad game design on Dice's part have lead to the unfortunate chopper changes in 1.2 (even more more unfortunate for the 1% team based pilots out there).

                          Ah well....

What seems to be misunderstood, is that every tank a chopper kills, was on it's way to kill friendlies...
hence, I saved my teammates from distruction, eventhough they never saw the tank...

                              QFT.

The best way to make an impact on some maps is to put the pedal to the metal and go to the base nearest the enemy base and then proceed to shoot down everything. If you can hold that cap off for even two minutes your team will soon own the map. This only applies to the start of the map.

But under more normal circumstances helos are best used for defense without support or in conjunction with ground pounders to take a flag. The greatest advantage for both the planes and the helos is their speed. This enables them to stop the capping of distant flags. Unless there are two or more cappers on the flag you can always make it in time before the flag goes hostile.

I was just going to post something along those lines. If we're busy point whoring, which usually means us killing a lot of infantry with guns or vehicles with missiles/TVs, how are we not providing an invaluable service to the team ? We're constantly eliminating potential threats to you groundpounders.

That some pilots do not acknowledge your requests for assistance at every moment does not mean we aren't pulling our own weight in other ways.
