There was one time on the 64 player version of Daqing Oilfields where I saved the U.S. infantry team guarding the base on the middle/eastern side of the map. An enemy column of tanks and APCs was coming down from the north east firing tank shells on the way there softening the base up for the invasion. The U.S. infantry team was running all over in circles bumping into each other diving for cover. We could see that the enemy column were definately bout to crush any opposition and take the base. But I piloted an apache with some anonymous buddy to the scene to save the day!
We was flying like maybe only 30 feet or less off the ground and we flew right behind the enemy column following them in. We frantically launched rockets and tv missiles at em while flying full speed, yelling and screaming battle cries, and obliterated each vehicle one by one. The last tank died as it reached our base just as it was bout to slaughter everyone.
Then as we flew past we waved to our buddies on the ground as they leaped up and down for joy doing high fives n what not.
I even think I saw a few of them hugging and crying and thanking God they were alive.
It was a special moment. :cry:

Being a chopper pilot myself. I can't count how many arses my gunner and I have saved on the field...... Sometimes if some loner guy is capping a flag and gets killed by the tank, I blow the tank up, land, and revive the poor fellow.... The chat usually gets spammed by Thank You's..... LOL

Yeah many a time...standing a couple of feet around the corner from a flag..with a sniper rifle, I called in for back up and hey presto an attack chopper comes along and blows up the tank and then I cap the flag to end the match! Woohoo!

never been saved by a helo.

i have been saved by arty....as odd as it sounds, considering it usually kills you. cleared out bunch of enemy armor for me.

This is how the attack helo should be played...

SPOT YOUR TARGETS...I will come by with my co-pilot and decimate them :evil:

A 'chopper support needed' commo option would be nice...kinda like in BFV.

That would be very neat. Personally, when I hear "... APC/Tank/Slick spotted", I immediately look at the mini-map/map to see where it is: too far, I let others deal with it. Otherwise, I either line up the gunner or go for it myself. Contrary to popular belief, I'm there for you groundpounders... but you have to spot things for me to concentrate on else I will go about my own merry way. It's also heavily dependent on the people playing: sometimes I will be in a very chatty squad, so I know what's going on. If they're playing together, I'm joining in the fun for sure... but from the sky.

This is a snippet of convo that occured a few nights back that shows the two way street of good teamwork. I was the grunt/squad leader hidng outside the walls of the Woodyard as support. Had a sniper with me who was the one who nailed the AA operator.

Just another one of those memorable moments that keeps me lovin the game.

I love the attack chopper, i always try and get it when i am on my regular server [PTG]citymaps only.map sharqy
first off i take out there mec chopper(i prefer us chopper) then head straight for the tanks/apc/vodnik which are at us front flags.that takes about 20 secounds if you have a good gunner.
After which i will proceed towards the mec chopper spawn (not to far because it is a base and an uncappable flag)a quick tv missile and im off to tend to the armour again.
By doing this all round i help the ground troops by dissabling air and armour,9/10 the u.s will win if we manage to keep tv station ofcourse.
Not blowing my own trumpit about flying because someone is allways better just around the corner.But this is what the role of the attack chopper is for ,forget the infantry they will be taken care of by your team all you do is patrol the skys.
About spotting i totally agree with that how much easyier is it?
Anyway thats my two cents worth

when I fly the attack chopper I rely on spotters and provide assistance ASAP whenever I can; plus my copilot is always on teamspeak with me so we're pretty devastating when paired with a team of people who like to spot stuff.

I really wish there were more radio commands.. especially the ones that are commented out in the files already

I prefer the MEC chopper, the anti-infantry gun is simply ridiculous (my copilot now has a best kill streak of 102, go figure).. I really think it should have been nerfed not the missiles (its very hard to missile down a tank now if my copilot misses).

With all the b!tching that goes on around here about the attack choppers or pilots being bad in one form or another - I'm curious, has anyone ever had their bacon saved by an attack helo while on the ground?

I can only recall one time myself when I was playing sniper and had just spawned on Op Clean Sweep and an enemy main tank rolled up to my flag. Being alone, I ducked behind a building before he saw me, and Q-spotted him. Within seconds, I heard a "ten-four" over the comm and about 10 seconds later the tank was blown to Hell by a wired guided missile.

Out of the cloud of debris and smoke that was the tank, a Cobra flew in at tree top level and scanned the area while I ran in to re-capture the now neutralized flag. It was great for my morale, I felt like waving to the pilot and gunner.

This is how all chopper crews should play the game - sadly, it's few and far between. Anyone else got any cool moments?

I still like flying choppers even though they are a lot more vurneable since the new patch. This is an excellent post that shows some good team play. That's how the game should look like. Awesome job!

I was flying on Sharqi one day in my trusty Havoc, just cruising around out near the golf course, circling before making a quick flyby of the construction site for my gunner to rack up a few easy infantry kills. All of a sudden I hear, "Enemy APC inbound!" over the comm, and think to myself, "Wait a minute, USMC doesn't get an APC on this level ... bastards stole our vehicle!" It was driving up towards the Main Gate CP, so I eased low to the ground and flew about 3 feet over the heads of a duo dilligently guarding Main. I turned left and there he was, just coming around the corner - I flew right at him and pulled up enough to avoid his TOW, then lit him up with rockets. My gunner then proceded to mow down an incoming 4-man squad trying to be sneaky about their assault. I raised up to about low-rooftop level and did a flashy turn back to hover near Main Gate looking towards the archway; the duo that we just saved was jumping around spamming 'thanks'.

It was a good moment!
