    Re: Engineers Repairing in Vehicles

Whenever I pilot a Cobra, I fly as engineer and have my friend gun with the support kit - when we kill off an armor fight and there are friendly tanks left, we usually hover over them for a few seconds to give them a repair and re-arm boost combined.

Not to mention that my gunner and I can go rogue in the Cobra and never return to our base that is being raped by jets. Instead we set down out of the way and re-arm and repair in a remote clearing. If we have a good commander, I will form a squad and request a supply drop at that remote location as well and then mark it on my minimap with the "Move to this position..." command.

Hmmm.... I think I'm giving away too many trade secrets...

Not sure that it is much of a secret, it's just damn fine tactics. Problem is finding someone to play with regularly (if you aren't in a clan and play pubs) so that you are able to implement that sort of strategy. The simple answer seems to be a clan, but I don't have time for scrims and my frequency of play can vary wildly based on travel schedule.

They have a "clans" forum folder, so maybe a "looking for teammates" folder would be a good idea. Almost like personal ads. Enterprising engineer tank-whore seeks like minded partners for total domination

I call it good teamwork, its hard to defeat when a few guys are pulling it off but it also takes good teamwork to defeat. So I would say leave it alone.

            Quoted for Wise words.

engineers cant throw the AT mines now. making it harder to kill armor. engineers weapons are crappy. only thing going for engineers is that they dont get mega tk points because of retarded teamates.

Infact. Ive been thinking. We should make the aircraft carrier destroyable. That way engineers can work on it to.

Pop me an email (check my profile) when you're going to be online sometime. I usually play for an hour or three between 7 and 10 PM EST. If you look at my stats you'll see that I've lost a lot and died a lot, but my numbers are getting better. I prefer to be a team player, supporting member of an armor column or doing dirty work like repairing arty/trailer. I'm inclined towards city maps like Karkand, Ghost Town or Sharqui, but am open to the larger open field type maps if I had a good armor partner.

Have you updated PunkBuster lately? There have been several updates in the last 2 weeks. That seems to be the root of any of my lag evils.

Now that is a fun idea... If it were destroyed as an uncap then you could let people spawn there, but they'd be swimming until it was repaired. No planes or choppers from it until it is repaired. Unlikely to be part of any upcoming patch, but an interesting idea anyway.

last week i got my Expert Repair Badge. How i got was interesting..... on the Gulf of Oman map (USA/MEC). I was on MEC and the USA kept on blowning up the radar, UAV trailer, and the guns. So i used the APC as a transport and repair all the things and it took my most of the round. It was like we were going in circles. I think getting the medic badages are fast and easy... very much like the supply.

Know whats kinda funny. there was 3 apcs. at least 2 of them were engineers. they were right at the base of the ramp @ karkand's second flag. Plus there was a supply crate. and all they were doing was mowing everyone down. We literally hit them with 3 AT missles at once and they wouldnt die. so i spawn as engineer. placed AT mine on each of them. and one behind the first two which are closer to the water. I then run backwards grab a vodnik and ram them. they all exploded because the ram was enough to set off the vodnik. it was like a great chain reaction. the ram hit enough such that it exploded the first guy.and the explosion cause the second and third to go off.

all in all i got -2 for suicide. but got +6 in kills. though i suppose i could have done it with c4 with ease heh.

Great tactic. Further proof that superior tactics or coordinated teamwork can defeat armor columns. The people that complain about armor being too strong are not demonstrating either of those.

I forget if the carriers in 1942 were uncappable or not. but basically.

The damage on the carrier got so extensive that it slowly sinks when it has like red life left. and once it sinks. its gone. you cant spawn there. but even a sinking carrier can be saved and repaired to full with just a couple engineers. and just 1 engineer is enough usually to keep it from getting to damaged.

ive gotten my veteren medic badges. but expert seems so hard. but when it comes to the repair badge. thats so simply. 25 repair points would be simple. only problem is the time as engineer. i dont really play engineer.

You're a tanker that doesn't play engineer? What kit do you usually play when using armor? Seems like a preferred combo for a tank would be engineer as driver with support as gunner, followed by one or more APC's with engineers as drivers. Everyone repairs everyone else and the gunner can resupply the whole column. I've played other kits in armor to get badges, but I end up dying more often than when playing as an engy.

I see that you do not have much time playing the game (and by no means is that a bad thing), but getting 25 repair points in a round is extremely difficult, I think a majority of this forum would agree with me. Now 25 resupplies is fairly easy, but repairs? TOUGH!

I have to call BS on this one. It takes forever for an engineer to wrench enough to get one point. 25 times in a round? To do this, you'd have to have a Spec Ops and Support buddy, allow them to blow the assets repeatedly and repair...and do this on a 64 player server with minimum people on it so the round would last a long time. To get 25 repair points legitimately is nearly impossible.

The best way I've found to score well as an engineer is to ride shotgun on a Linebacker on Dragon Valley. You need someone that's good with their armor skills so they can use the LB more like an APC. I've gotten 17 repair points wrenching it, 49 team points for kill assists, etc.

On repair points in general, I'd like to see them up the repair points for Commander Assets to 2 point instead of 1. They can keep the vehicle repairs at 1 point. Alternately, I'd like to see them give the resupply task to engineers and take it away for Support. That way, you'd have more incentive for players to go Engineer and you'd put the 3 assault-type kits on a level playing field. By 3 assault type kits, I contend the Assault, AT and Support today are just slight variants of the same role. All have body armor, one specializes in armor (AT), another in infantry & light vehicles (Assault) and the other in infantry (Support). Only Support of the three has the opportunity to get bonus points for a supporting function. Perhaps doing this might also help balance out the current excess of players choosing Support.
